Forms :: Tab Key Does Not Set Combobox.selectedindex With Autocomplete

Aug 28, 2009

I am having a problem to get the results of a combobox when the user uses the tab key to exit the combobox. The combobox uses a database as the datasource. When the user uses the mouse to click on the selection the selectedindex is set proprerly, however when the user will enter some text and presses the tab key, selectedindex is set to -1.

I have attached some test code to duplicate the issue.

Get An Integer Value From A ComboBox Using A DataTable As Its DataSource

Jun 23, 2010

I am using code similar to this to populate a combobox with items from a database. The display works fine, but when I try to get the combobox.SelectedValue it is returning a DataRowView, where I need an integer. Obviously this is becuase I haven't casted the value to an integer, but the function, CInt(cboPosition.SelectedValue) is throwing an InvalidCastException. Is there any way that I can get the ValueMember's type to be an Integer?

Dim cn As New SqlConnection(CreditDisputesLogConn)
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("CustomersLookup", cn)
Dim da As New SqlDataAdapter(cmd)

ComboBox Selected Index Property As Integer?

May 19, 2012

I need to develop a function called SetComboBox that accepts the category(ies) in the ComboBox as a string and returns an integer indicating the index position of the category in the ComboBox. The function is supposed to set the category in the ComboBox Selected Index property to match the string category stored in a database for an inventory item.

SelectedItem Property Of The Combobox Is Supposed To Return A Integer Value?

Jun 22, 2010

VS 2008 Why Doesn't The ComboBox Have A Selected Integer Property

Nov 26, 2009

Why can't you set the selected integer for the items in the combobox in the properties window instead of adding code in the form load event? I don't like to have to do things that way, I feel like it is less efficient. Should I just deal with their being no value property for combo boxes or is there a way to do it easier?

Bind Combobox To Datatable And Object Property Causing Duplicate Bindings

Aug 19, 2011

I'm trying to populate the list of a combobox by binding it to a datatable. Also, I want the selected value of the combobox to be bound to an object property so that when the selected value changes, it's automatically updating the object. However it's causing an error at runtime: "This causes two bindings in the collection to bind to the same property.

Parameter name: binding" I thought binding the dropdown list to a datatable and the selected value to an object were different properties but obviously I'm not getting it right.

Code:

Private Sub PopulateSiteSelect()
With Me.PlanSiteSelect
If _Plan.PlanID <> Nothing And _User.UserID <> Nothing And _Plan.Category <> Nothing Then

Forms :: Set The Column Names In A DataTable As A Datasource To A ComboBox?

Aug 4, 2011

I'm trying to setup a form to search for data within an existing DataTable.

FilterColumnsComboBox.DataSource = WOTable.Columns?
FilterColumnsComboBox.DisplayMember = ???
FilterColumnsComboBox.ValueMember = ???

I could hard-code in the column names ("WO_Number",WO_CustID","CustLastName", etc...), but would prefer to pick this up dynamically (partly because I want to reuse this code later).

I am working on a project that uses lots of custom class objects.Before starting work on real project, I tested the object behaviour on a temporary project. And find that if i add the object to a list and combobox and then make any change to the object property then it reflects in list and combobox.But after using the same process in real project the change does not reflect. Why?Also, how can i update object property placed in the combobox.

Forms :: Validate The Text Property Of My Combobox

Apr 20, 2011

I have been searching for an easier way to validate the text property of my combobox.

Below is a background of what I am try to accomplish:

I have a from that contains many controls, mainly comboboxes that are bound to datatables. I have these set up in such a fashion as to when the user begins to type, the values begin to show and auto populate the combobox. This makes the selection process easier to select an actual value in the list. But, as we all know, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. Users still have the ability to type something that is not in the list. I do not want to allow them to leave the combobox until the have selected or typed a valid value from the list because I am building a SQL query to retrieve data for a later form. I don't want to lose the above mentioned functionality of being able to type it in. I currently have it working as follows, but there must be a more elegant way to do this.

I first populate my combo box like so:

CODE:

The part I don't like the most is that I feel like I should be able to use the list already loaded in the combobox data, but I can't figure out how to do it. So I end up having to reload it, this seem like a waste of time.

Using DataTable Populated With A Sqldataadapter?

Is this the way it can be done? I believe this is the case, but can't find any definitive examples online (probably not searching properly)

Asp.net - Listbox.SelectedIndex Is Not Changing After Some Asp Property Changes?

Jun 14, 2012

I have a form with a dropdownbox two listboxes and two buttons on it. I removed a "select" button as I just used the DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged, but the event would not fire until I used the suggestion from:Why DropDownList.SelectedIndexChanged event does not fire?

It involved changing the AutoPostBack='true' and EnableViewState="true" properties

So now the DropDownList works but with the two listboxes, the SelectedIndex stays as -1 and does not change even when selected.

[Code]...

I think it has something to do with post backs, page_load or the selectedindex changed event of the listbox, it worked perfectly before I made the modifications.

Forms - Combobox Formatstring Property Doesn't Work

Jan 19, 2012

I have a form created in VB.net. It is used to get some information form a user. The form is not bound to any data source.

A combobox on this form is used to enter a cost. I want the value entered by the user to be displayed using currency format. I have used the Format String Dialog that opens from the ellipses button on the FormatString property of the combobox and selected Currency. This put C2 into the FormatString property.

When I run my application, this format is not applied to the value entered into the combobox at the time the number is entered or when I leave the combobox.

VS 2010 Check Whether A DataTable Is Populated?

May 15, 2012

i defined a list of DataTables

Dim PreSubTables As New List(Of DataTable)()

Then I parse some source files and depending on the data, possibly none of the tables in the list PreSubTables2 might be populated, so it's just an empty list. Later on when i refer to the first table in the list , I get "index out of range error"

If (PreSubTables(0).Rows.Count > 0) Then ...
' just dealing with the first table: PreSubtables(0)
For ii = 0 To (PreSubTables(0).Rows.Count - 1)

[Code]....

I'm just trying to come up with a line that checks whether the(at least the first)Table in the list is populated, before I can print it out or do other things.

ComboBox.SelectedIndex = -1 Not Working?

Nov 23, 2010

My understanding is that if you set a ComboBoxes .SelectedIndex to -1, it should unselect any items in the ComboBox and show nothing in the ComboBox text. This is not happening. How can I get that to happen?I have 10 items in the Combobox. Let's say the index is set to number 5 and the text says "MasterCard". Now through code I want to set it to -1 and the text should show nothing. How can I do this?

Export Datatable - Access Table Just Isn't Being Populated?

Apr 16, 2010

I'm having some trouble trying to export a datatable to Access. I've built an Access DB and Table identical to the datatable that I'm trying to export using ADOX.Now using and OLEDB connection I'm trying to populate that table. The following code works just fine in another app written in 2005 but not in 2008 for some reason.

Basically I'm bringing in the empty Access table into a dataset.Filling that table with the rows from the export datatable.Then running the dataadapter's update method to send the data to Access.The problem is the da_a.Update doesn't seem to work. No errors, the Access table just isn't being populated. I checked my before and after counts. I know that the datatable is being populated. It's just not landing in Access.

Dim conn_a As New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & strFullFileName)
conn_a.Open()

VS 2010 ComboBox.SelectedIndex Can't Go Higher Than 9?

Apr 24, 2012

I'm working with a ComboBox which has 14 items.

Using the following code I got a problem

vb
If Me.ComboBox1.SelectedIndex = 0 Then MsgBox("item 1")ElseIf Me.ComboBox1.SelectedIndex = 1 Then MsgBox("item 2") '...ElseIf Me.ComboBox1.SelectedIndex = 9 Then MsgBox("item 9") ElseIf Me.ComboBox1.SelectedIndex = 10 Then MsgBox("item 10") '...End If

The problem is that after the SelectedIndex = 9 it won't read properly the SelectedIndex = 10, it seems like it consider only the first number (1) instead of the whole one (10). In fact get the same result as if it was SelectedIndex = 1
