I know how to manipulate the code from a button (by double clicking it) from the design tab but how do I create a button from the code section wich will appear in the design tab? If I simply put the code for a new button it will do nothing:Private Sub Button1_click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles Button1.click?

I have developed an application which launch an external executable. I want to be able that if I am using another one, like notepad, I dont loose the focus to the one called by my application. I have test it changing the startinfo.windows style ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...ndowstyle.aspx ) from Normal, minimized and hidden.Every one I have used make notepad loose the focus to the new launched application. Is it there any way to launch an application and make this dont get the focus, in order I can continue working in other app without problems?

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to create an application in VB.net that can come to the front once a certain condition occurs (in this case, a file being created). I've tried the following code, but it just results in the taskbar button blinking on Windows 7:
Me.Activate()
I understand the reason for this, and I completely understand why people don't want any random application to steal focus (I hate it too). This is an extremely limited use application (only 3 computers will actually be using it), and the users in this case would want the application to popup in front (there will be an option to turn it off too).
Any ideas if this is still possible to do on Windows 7?
I have a combobox on an Excel worksheet that I can tab into, then pick my data (located on another worksheet) after activating the "arrow". But the tab or enter key does not allow me to navigate away from the cell after it is populated. The only action that allows the user to move to another cell is by mouse/click to another cell. I am trying to make navigation through though worksheet as user friendly as possible.I can't seem to find any sample code that will take the focus away from that cell using Tab or Enter.
I have no problem with ListBoxes created using the Data Validation method but I have to create a ComboBox control on the active worksheet in order to return the data chosen (in this case a code that corresponds to a description). If this was a Form I wouldn't have any problem as the properties would allow me to set that up, but this is essentially a spreadsheet I've inherited and the current users do not want to go to a Data Entry Form.
I created the following view
<ListView.View>
<GridView>
<GridViewColumn Header="Tester"

Now what I suppose is that, After I entered something in "Comment" field and press the Key "Enter", the next row of the "Comment" field will get focus.
I added the following code of the event "PreviewKeyDown", but it seems that the next whole row will get focus not only the "Comment" field...
Private Sub TxtComment_PreviewKeyDown(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Input.KeyEventArgs)
Dim focusRequest As TraversalRequest
Dim focusedElement As Object = sender

Is there a more efficient/easier way changing the backcolor of a control when it has focus and lost focus? Let's say I've got 10 text boxes. Right now I would have 20 different events...10 for Enter event and 10 for Leave event. Of course, entering would change the back color to "green" and leaving would change it back to "white".

Here is what I've done:1) Created an Excel COM add-in for Excel 20032) Added a NotifyIcon to the Windows taskbar notification area (aka system tray) during ThisAddIn_Startup3) Added a ContextMenuStrip with a ToolStripButton to the NotifyIconWhy is it when I right click on the NotifyIcon, Excel gains focus? If after clicking on the NotifyIcon to display the ContextMenuStrip I choose not select an option on the ContextMenuStrip and instead click back on the Excel window, I get a weird flashing cell in Excel.I've created a video of the problem to help you see what I [url] anyone know how to prevent this? Ideally, I'd like to be able to click back on Excel and only have the ContextMenuStrip close and Excel regain focus.
View 1 RepliesI have two forms in an application. One is he background and then I show another keypad form called with the show() method (not showDialog) because I need to perform some validations on btn click.
The kepad has 10 buttons and an Enter Button. The problem is that the form keeps loosing focus (I checked this with a messagebox which keeps poping up once for focus=true and again for focus=false, it continuously keeps losing and gaining focus) so it does not process any keypress events untill i click somewhere on the form. I tried using me.focus() in form load event but to no avail. The forms TopMost property is also set to true.
recommend a book that focuses on the .NET framework in general and isn't too language specific.
View 3 RepliesI have a textbox on a form that when it loses focus it updates other text boxes on the form. But before it updates the other textboxes I check the input value in the textbox lostfocus event if it is undesired I return focus to the the textbox and alert the the user with a msgbox. However where my problem is, is that when the cancel button is clicked I don't care what the input in the textbox is because the changes are being canceled but if the value is undesired the it keeps returning focus to the textbox instead of canceling the changes. Is there a way to see what control was clicked on before or in the lost focus event? Can't seem to figure it out tried enter and leave events but no luck!
So for example something like this...
Code:
Private Sub TextBox1_LostFocus(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.LostFocus

I have a DataGridView with several columns. One column is a TextBox column named "Status". This column can only show one of three values: 'Final', 'Ready', or 'No Reportable'. I want to have some code that would turn the TextBox cell into a ComboBox cell when the user left-clicks on the cell to allow the user to choose one of these three options. When the user clicks elsewhere or the cell loses focus I want the cell to change back to a TextBox cell.
Here is what I have so far, but the code throws an exception indicated below Plus, I don't think the code would remove the combobox when the cell loses focus.
Exception: "Provided cell does not belong to this DataGridView control."
Private Sub dgvCalculatedResults_MouseDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles dgvCalculatedResults.MouseDown
Dim ht As DataGridView.HitTestInfo = Me.dgvCalculatedResults.HitTest(e.X, e.Y)

I'm having issues with program that uses radio buttons to select between 2 different forms, that are displayed using showDialog. When I click a button to perform calculations in either form, it will act normally and display the information, however when I click the Clear button to begin a new calculation, the form will close, does anyone know why?
View 1 RepliesI have a form that I am using to search for records in a dataset, it has a text box for entry of the search criteria and a 'Search' button to initiate the editing of the entry and .Filter on the BindingSource. This is one form in a project with many, when I show it using .ShowDialog it always disappears, (not visible and not loaded) after the 'Search' button is clicked, I have stepped through and there is no .Hide or .Close that it encounters, it performs all of the logic correctly but control is returned to the main form it was shown from. When I use the .Show method, I do not have this problem.
View 5 Replieswhere I am starting another thread which opens a form. Succinctly, it is an animated "Please wait.. processing" type of form. The issue is that I want to make this form a child form of the parent (main thread or main GUI) when I open it.The issue is that I prefer to use frmProcessing.ShowDialog(frmMain) instead of just frmProcessing.Show, because of form disappearing issues. It, of course, gives me an error of illegal cross thread operation. My question is, how do I perform frmProcessing.ShowDialog(frmMain) to show from within another thread, that the newly opened form is actually a child of the main thread. Is there a better way for me to make a small processing form telling the user to be patient while background processes are working? [code]
View 2 RepliesWhen I run this code, it does not seem to open the OpenFileDiaplog diaplg box, or if it does, it closes it immediately, and I get at index out of bounds exception at the " infileStream = getFile.OpenFile()"This exact same code works without problem in another application I am building. So maybe its something about the IDE environment?I think, but am not certain, that this code worked in 2003 .net. I then used the VS wizard to automatically convert to the 2005 environment that I am now coding in.
Dim infileStream As Stream
Dim getFile As New OpenFileDialog
getFile.Filter = "All files (*.*)|*.*"

I converted this app from VB6. I have 2 forms. Form1 instantiates Form2 via a Menu Item.I am having trouble getting Form2 to end when clicking close (X). If Form2 is 'idle' it closes fine; but if I am in a loop processing anything all the events fire, but it continues processing in Form2. I've tried messing with Dispose, Close, Application.Exit, Application.ExitThread. My last attempt was creating my own event to fire back to Form1 and dispose Form2 -- and it hits it but Form2 is still running. What is the deal? BTW if I use just Show vs ShowDialog -- Form2 just blinks and disappears.[code]

I have a form that uses another class to do some work, and the class throws events regarding text updates, and the main form handles them and passes them on the the StatusForm, which displays the process progress via usercontrol. Using a BackgroundWorker and Events I'm able to update the usercontrol on the Status form if I use frmStatus.Show(). Unfortunately, the Status form should use ShowDialog() so it can't lose focus while the application is processing data. Now, for some reason the UserControl will not update if I use ShowDialog(). Any ideas?
