Ftp Upload Of Large File Causes App To Hang On Stream.Close()?
Jun 22, 2011
I'm trying to upload a large file (over 50Mb) to my webserver but my app hangs when trying to close the stream. If the file uploaded is larger than 50Mb then the .Close() causes it to hang - no error message at all - however a file less than 50Mb succeeds.
What do you suggest to get around the fstream.Close() hanging my app?
Dim target As New Uri(uploadedFilePath)
Dim fRequest As System.Net.FtpWebRequest = System.Net.WebRequest.Create(target)

I have a user interface app that allows you to drag/drop in files - and it turns them into HttpListener request POST's to another EXECUTABLE that I have running - let's call it BACKEND1. BACKEND1 will be running on a SERVER when this gets ready for production use. Lots and lots of users running the UI - all dragging in files - all getting POST'ed to BACKEND1 - with the file included as a memory stream in the POST. BACKEND1 responds to the UI with a "sequential" file number assigned to the file centrally on the server.
On the SERVER is also running another EXECUTABLE - let's call it BACKEND2. It's job is to work with the DRAG'd in files. Both BACKEND1 and BACKEND2 sit on the same SERVER. At the moment I am writing the memory stream to DISK in BACKEND1 - and POSTing the FILENAME to BACKEND2 for it to work on. Would it be better to not write the file in BACKEND1 but instead include it in the POST to BACKEND2 - where it can be written to DISK? Is having LARGE HTTP REQUEST's a burden when sent between two EXECUTABLES on the same machine?
My primary goal is to have a really available BACKEND1 talking the the UI instances running out in the world. I'm concerned that doing the file i/o in BACKEND1 is "expensive" - and I don't care about the performance of BACKEND2 as much. just looking for opinions. I guess ultimately I'll have to bench mark this myself in a production environment to get a real answer.

I am trying to upload 2 large files to a ftp server by uploading as one file to a location. I have it working if the files are small but it crashes with large files.
For i As Integer = 0 To filelist.Count() - 1
Dim fRequest As FtpWebRequest = WebRequest.Create(ftpPath & "/Reports/" & filelist.Item(i))
fRequest.Credentials = New NetworkCredential(username, psswd)

I want to upload a large file of tracking numbers and process them into our ordering system.
I used to use Server.ScriptTimeout = 3000
It worked until we upgraded our servers and now it crashes.
I'm Getting This webpage is not available The connection to www.YourSite.com was interrupted.
I could see the .csv file has been uploaded, but many tracking numbers do not get processed.
I'm thinking of maybe switching to a asynchronous update. But I cannot find any good source for it.
If you have any good ideas, please let me know.

I would like to upload files using the ASP FileUpload control. However, if I try and increase the limit to about 10000 kB, it doesn't work and accepts files only upto 4 MB in size and I get an error saying that the connection to the server was reset. I referred: [URL]..but when I modified the web.config.comments file, nothing happened. Where am I going wrong?
Also, I wanted to know how this would work when I deploy it on the web server. I'm asking because in the code behind, I'm still giving a hard coded value for the path where the file is to be uploaded. How does this work?

I have a testing platform that allows data to be posted to a real time collection system. It uses the StreamWriter object to send both HTTP and XML formats, It works fine, but there is a new request to submit uploaded files. This again works fine, unless the files are over 70k (we need to test upto 3MB). If it is over 70k, the response is the content-length too big. I have changed it so that the content-length is now set dynamically, dependant on the size of the file uploaded. However, when the StreamWriter.Close() runs, the execption The request was aborted: The request was canceled. is generated, with the InnerException Cannot close stream until all bytes are written.
From what I have found on the web, the solution is use StreamWriter.Flush(), but this code is already in place.

I'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.

I'm trying to upload a file via FTP from my local computer to an FTP server, which is also on my local computer at the moment. I've got this sub I'm calling:

I'm running an FTP Server using Golder FTP Server, which is freeware. I think it's setup correctly because connecting to the FTP Server using the exact same string as above using Windows Explorer works great.

in an winForm app in VS2010 win 7 compiling to x86, I try to do what Alvas.Audio seems to work. See (c# ex: [URL] for reference.
Dim data() As Byte = wr.ReadData(second * i, second)
The result give me data.length()=0. I do not have any exception, I can read format from it and whatever reader I use I got this problem.EDIT : After some tests, it seems like the uncompressed file I create in the first step (in PCM format, with .wav extension) can not be recognized by the Alvas.audio library for the second step. I must miss something around Audio file markups or something alike.
Here is the code that might be the source (basically this is step 1):
Dim functOut As String = String.Empty
Dim wr As Alvas.Audio.IAudioReader = Nothing
Dim fs As IO.FileStream = Nothing
[code]....
How can I write the resulted stream to be sure I can read it again later?

I don't know whether it is simple or not because i am new to programming. my requirement is : In my vb.net winform application, the filenames of the files present in "D:Project" willbe displayed in DataGridView1 control. Now I want to load these files one after another into memory stream buffer and add the headers("ID","Name","Class") to the content in the file. Then I want to save these files in "C:" with "_de" as suufix to the filename i.e.,sample_de.csv.

I am writing a backup program that zips files. Using some sample code I have the following that creates a zip file. Problem is it does not get any subdirectories or files. Where am i going wrong?
Dim azFileNames() As String = Directory.GetFiles(SourceFolder)
Dim objCrc32 As New Crc32()
Dim zipStream As ZipOutputStream
[CODE]...
Alternativley, there is another component to the zipping dll that I could probably bypass the above altogether. It is: FZ.CreateZip(DestFile, SourceFolder, True, "", "") Where DestFile is (Output stream as system.io.stream). I'm trying to read all the files, directories, sub dir and files, etc from a specific location, let's say 'My Documents' into Destfile in which the FZ.CreateZip zips the file. FZ is FastZip which is from icsharpcode.net. They have c# examples, but that's greek to me. I'm trying to just learn VB!

i am making a game in which the file stream gets a certain file(lets say a.txt) and it reads it, if it has certain values stored in the file it returns boolean(this is a function), then a sub procedure writes to the file using a streamwriter and a filestream using the same file. I am having problems, sometimes visual basic says that another process is using the file, this is before i closed the filestreams and the streamwriter or streamreader, then it gives me errors when i close the files, it tells me that it can't access a file that is already closed, i thought the filestream gets the file and lets the streamreader or streamwriter read or write to the filefound out the problem?

I want to write a program to do Markov chain, but my states are quite large. First of all I calculate all the transition probabilities and revenues for all states(1381860 total states), and store in a multidimensional array. Public RevArr(0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As Long
After that the iteration of markov chain should use these as inputs to calculate the steady-state probabilities. But when I try to run the main code I got this error.Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
The following is the declaration of second array I add just another dimension for storing all the iterations, but I get this error. Dim stateprob(IT + 1, 0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As single
