My clickonce app has the following pre-requisites: Windows Installer 3.1 .NET Framework 3.5 Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Report Viewer Microsoft Visual Basic Power Packs 3.0 SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 (x86) The application has been successfully installed on more than 30 computers. All but 2 computers, have had installation problems.
For awhile, one of the two computers in question, would not resolve installation of SQL server 2005 Express edition. It would go through the motions of downloading the program and then attempting an install and after a good 30 minutes, an error would show up indicating that the installation had failed. The user continued to have a nuisance error pop up appear when he'd log into his computer.Long story short, I resolved that problem. So now all of the pre-requisites are installed and confirmed as successfully installed. The clickonce application does not install however. The following log file was created as a result of this error:

I am trying to get my program to identify the user's screen name and input it into a file path. I use vb2008, and here is what i have: Dim strUser As String = My.User.Name This works but retrieve the info in this format: ('Computer Name'/'Username') Is there any way to code the program to get rid of the first part of My.User.Name (the 'Computer Name' part)? View 2 RepliesHere is what I am doing: I have several servers that are used to run a piece of software. The software is started using a scheduled task. I can have up to three instances of the software running using three scheduled tasks, and three logged in users. Currently I am using a separate program running on two additional servers to make sure these two additional users are logged in, the scheduled task will not run if the user is not logged in. This separate program uses a saved Remote Desktop Session to make sure the users are logged in.

View 3 RepliesI have vbscript code that enumerates user profiles from this registry path:
HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList.
How can this be done using Visual Basic 2010? Is there a class or method that I would use to accomplish the same thing or would I have to read the registry path into an array as you do with vbscript? My application will be ran on the local computer just so you know this information is not being gathered from across the network. I have been looking for awhile and haven't found anything that will work so far.Once I have the user profiles from the computer, I will populate this list into a drop-down combo box.
I'm creating a CD that when inserted into a CD-Rom will AutoRun, which brings up the program starting with a splash screen, then the first window form. All this works, no problem. On the first window form I have a button (one of many) all buttons work (so far) except this one button. (I actually haven't test3d the buttonjs to see if they work on / from a CD yet, but they work in Debug).
I would like to have the user click the button, and have that button be tied to a zip file or an exe file that is in a folder on my CD, that will be downloaded to the user's computer. I would like the usual window to come up asking the user where the user would like to save the file, the user will choose the folder, click the save button and the file downloads from the CD to the hard drive of the user's computer, so the user can open it later. It doesn't have to Run from the CD, it is just to download to be accessed later.
Some files will be a Zip and others are Exe files that I would like to have downloaded to the user's PC by way of a button click. Of course the user's computer will need to be able to know which drive the CD is in.
This is what I've tried and doesn't seem to work...Have not tried it from directly from CD (Haven't tried anything directly from the CD as of yet, but after this problem my next step is try and make a AutoRun CD and test the program).
Process.Start(Application.StartupPath &
"SoftwareApp1.zip")
I'll start another post for How to Make my Program ready for a CD. I think it may involve Publishing...but publishing only made a setup.exe, which is Not what I want.
I have a vb6 program that could change my password at local computer.
View 8 RepliesI am creating a project with VB2008 Express Edition. The end result will be a CD containing tech manuals in pdf format which will be accessed via various buttons on a form. I am going to include Acrobat Reader Redisributable on the CD which the user can install by pressing a button on the form if required. What I want to do is this:- When the user inserts the CD into the PC, the form will load. When the form loads, I want to search the users PC to determine if Acrobat Reader is installed. If the Acrobat Reader program is not found on the system, then display a MessageBox to inform the user to install the reader from the CD.Would this involve searching the users registry? I would need to insert in my Form1_Load sectionTarget systems would be Windows XP/ Vista with programs on the C: drive as default.

i have a task to create a TCP Server (a program that is listening on its network card interfaces for incoming data stream).I have search on the internet and i found that i can use two methods : Socket or TCPListener class.I have created an example for Socket class, but i wondering how could i test it? I need to check that if another computer in the network send some string data to the listener computer , then this message should be displayed. Here is the example from microsoft that i am using for TCP Server using Socket:
Public Shared Sub Main()
' Data buffer for incoming data.
Dim data = nothingc[code]....
But it does not work because of the PORT setting. If in the TCP Server i have "Dim localEndPoint As New IPEndPoint(ipAddress, 0)" the client crashes, but if i change the port from any (0) to 11000 for example, the client works fine.Do you know why?
Later edit2:Maybe i should have started with this question:Which method is recommended for my scope?asynchronous or synchronous method ?
I am developing a computer application designed to monitor the network and CPU statistics on a computer remotely. The monitored computer would have my program installed and the monitoring computer would display, in a form, the information being sent from the remote client. The application does not send any information regarding packets, user names, passwords, etc. It is solely meant for monitoring CPU performance and Network resources remotely.
What would be the best method to send this information over to my host machine?I am programing in Visual Studio 2008 on windows XP. The client machine is also XP. I know this sounds a little shady, but it is required for my little business (http://www.iquorum.net) to monitor what and when something happens on our machines when I and my employees are away.

i have encountered a problem, i want to access the data coming to the computer from the in-built bluetooth module of a computer on windows platform, this data has been sent by a remote bluetooth module say a by an autonomous device (just like a bluetooth mouse connecting to the computer). View 6 RepliesI have a desktop computer with a cable connection on the back that allows me to watch TV on the computer using Windows Media Center. I had the idea of writing a program that would access this feed and send it to another computer (laptop) via my network. That way I would be able to watch TV from anywhere that my network spans. I have no idea if this is possible or how I would even do it,
So I have three questions.
1: Is it possible?
2: How would I go about access the feed?
3: How would I send it over the network?
My original thought was doing it in Flash, but I'm not very good at Flash so I wanted to do it in VB.Net.
