How can this be done using Visual Basic 2010? Is there a class or method that I would use to accomplish the same thing or would I have to read the registry path into an array as you do with vbscript? My application will be ran on the local computer just so you know this information is not being gathered from across the network. I have been looking for awhile and haven't found anything that will work so far.Once I have the user profiles from the computer, I will populate this list into a drop-down combo box.
I am creating a website using asp.net mvc model. When you create an mvc application asp.net automatically creates roles/profiles for user and admins (as far as i know) and corresponding tables in sql server database.I a need a new profile/role names "sponsor" that has all the benefits of users/admins (like authorization etc).
We have an application that's installed at several locations but we are having an issue at one particular site. In short the application settings (My.) are not being saved after a reboot. The application is build in VB.Net v3.5 Framework and we are not experiencing any issues elsewhere.
This particular site is using roaming profiles and the network administrator ensures us that the correct permissions are applied to the user account(s) and all application data is being saved to the server. I've asked the network admin to check for the existence of the user settings file user.config in the Application Data directory and he says it doesn't exist.
In our application we store the connection string to the database in the application settings under the user scope. If no connection string is present or if one is present and a connection to the database cannot be made then a form is shown asking the user for the database credentials. Each morning when the users boot the machine and opens the application for the first time they are asked for these credentials but if they close the application and restart it they are not asked for them. This indicates to us that the settings are being saved but once the pc is rebooted and the application is opened for the first time they are asked for the database credentials. This seems like the settings are not persisting after a reboot.
This has to be simple, but can't find the answer.I want to display a list of all files from a folder in a listbox. Easy..., but I want to display only the filenames without their paths.
For Each foundFile As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles("C:My Folder") ListBox1.Items.Add(foundFile) Next This gives me list looking like that: C:My Folderfile1.txt C:My Folderfile2.txt
writing user info such as user, computer name, date, and time to an acces database using a button click event. Then use a query to check if the user has accepted the aggreement. If the user has accepted the aggreement then call a vb.exe that display the aggrement. I have a login script that runs the vb.exe and uses a button click that records the user info to a csv file, but if the user has already agreed to the policies I do not want it run again.
I have a form on which I want the user to be able to select a name from a list. The list needs to be populated from an table in my dataset. I'd like the user to begin typing and have an autocomplete append select type feature let them zero in on the person they want as they type. My question is, what type of control would work best for this?
I am making an application where a user can store their logons/passwords and other details for websites on the internet. My question is this: Am I able to have a list of all sites that the user has saved a password for on the internet?I don't think I will be able to get the password (because of Windows security), but am I able to see what sites the user has saved their password on, and maybe even the username they used?
I'm not sure where I'm going wrong with this. it's supposed to let the user add scores to the list, then calculate the total, average, and count. However, it doesn't let me add more values to the list. Any help whatsoever would be awesome! Keep in mind, I am new to VB and programming languages, and was just playing around with code hoping for any sort of positive result, and therefore some of the code may not be necessary, or make sense. Here's what I have now:
When .Clear() is invoked, is the memory freed up that was allocated when all of the items were added? I need to load several lists of codes from a database depending on the import selected by the user. Each list of codes will be a List(Of String). My idea is that I will load only small strings into a List(Of String) along with a List(Of <class>) for the data I will be validating and manipulating. When I am done, I want all of the data from the Lists to be purged from memory. Will .Clear() take care of that or does the memory still remain allocated and have to be dumped by the OS once memory gets full? (And, incidentally, what causes the OS to decide which memory blocks to dump? FIFO concept?)
There are so many lists, I'm not sure if I just want them sitting in memory or not. Granted, the lists will just consist of a single string value for each code pulled from the database. So there won't be a ton of data, so maybe I could just load all the validation lists at the beginning of runtime and only worry about purging the data List since it will contain between 35-50 "fields" per record and there will be a couple thousand records each import that is run. I don't want my program to actually cause a hit in performance in the long run. I ultimately don't see a problem because I won't be running millions or even hundreds of thousands of records at once, but I just want to be sure.
I am attempting to create a basic program and I need to know how to incorporate INI files for profiles in order to quickly pull up data from one person to the next.
Public Class IniFile ' API functions Private Declare Ansi Function GetPrivateProfileString _ Lib "kernel32.dll" Alias "GetPrivateProfileStringA" _
[code]....
And placed it into a module, which I then wen't to my main program and attempted to place this:
Dim ini As New IniFile(Profiles.ini) Dim value As String = ini.GetString("Names", "1", "Default Value")
To attempt to retrieve the data, but I get no error or information from it. The ini file is inside the folder of the project and I set the SectionName and KeyValue to the corresponding names. I think I am having trouble with syntax? Not 100% sure. This is the code that I got from the same source as the module for using the module.
Dim ini As New IniFile(FileName) Dim value As String = ini.GetString("SectionName", "KeyName", "Default Value")
And I adjusted to what I believed would be the proper format.
I need to write an application that does the following, and I figured it was a good opportunity to write my first VB.Net application:
1. Get the list of fixed disks in the computer 2. For each disk, recurse through all its directories and sub-directories looking for filenames that match a given regex (eg. MyFile.d{3}) 3. If found, hash this file to get a unique ID, eg. MD5 (just to check if this file already exists elsewhere) 4. If this file hasn't already been seen elsewhere on the disk, copy it to a central directory
With the following code I can list the display name of all software installed on a local machine.
'Declare the string to hold the list: Dim Software As String = Nothing
'The registry key: Dim SoftwareKey As String = "SOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall" Using rk As RegistryKey = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey(SoftwareKey)
'Let's go through the registry keys and get the info we need: For Each skName As String In rk.GetSubKeyNames() Using sk As RegistryKey = rk.OpenSubKey(skName) [Code] .....
What I need is to get the FileName to be used to start the application like notepad.exe and not just the displayname Dim p As New System.Diagnostics.Process p.StartInfo.FileName = filename & ".exe"
Is it possible if I want make my program only work for certain computer user?
Means the program will check the current system user... and If the user is allow by the program... the program will Run...and If the user not allow by the program the program will display Message..."You are NOT ALLOW to use this program" and the program will close.
is it possible to have the open programs on my computer viewed in a list, and have the abbily to minimize and restore if so, what are the codes for it and what do i have to attach it ro (butten etc) it is for my OS i am making.
My clickonce app has the following pre-requisites: Windows Installer 3.1 .NET Framework 3.5 Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Report Viewer Microsoft Visual Basic Power Packs 3.0 SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 (x86) The application has been successfully installed on more than 30 computers. All but 2 computers, have had installation problems.
For awhile, one of the two computers in question, would not resolve installation of SQL server 2005 Express edition. It would go through the motions of downloading the program and then attempting an install and after a good 30 minutes, an error would show up indicating that the installation had failed. The user continued to have a nuisance error pop up appear when he'd log into his computer.Long story short, I resolved that problem. So now all of the pre-requisites are installed and confirmed as successfully installed. The clickonce application does not install however. The following log file was created as a result of this error:
PLATFORM VERSION INFO Windows : 5.1.2600.131072 (Win32NT) Common Language Runtime : 2.0.50727.3053 System.Deployment.dll : 2.0.50727.3053 (netfxsp.050727-3000) mscorwks.dll : 2.0.50727.3053 (netfxsp.050727-3000)
I am trying to get my program to identify the user's screen name and input it into a file path. I use vb2008, and here is what i have: Dim strUser As String = My.User.Name This works but retrieve the info in this format: ('Computer Name'/'Username') Is there any way to code the program to get rid of the first part of My.User.Name (the 'Computer Name' part)? Or is there another way that i don't know of where i can identify the users username.
i want to develop a billing software for my net cafe. how to lock the computer before a user entering their name in my Login form?after they entered their name, this form will insert a new data in userLogin table (user_login_name and login_time), and the computer will be available to use.
Here is what I am doing: I have several servers that are used to run a piece of software. The software is started using a scheduled task. I can have up to three instances of the software running using three scheduled tasks, and three logged in users. Currently I am using a separate program running on two additional servers to make sure these two additional users are logged in, the scheduled task will not run if the user is not logged in. This separate program uses a saved Remote Desktop Session to make sure the users are logged in.
I am using my.settings to save settings. Problem is when a different user logs into the computer they have different settings. Is there a way to use my.settings to work across all users that log in?
I'm converting a user generated list box to an array and then generating a user defined number of random strings and placing it in a textbox. The code I have works fine as it will generate the number of random strings the user wants, except sometimes a line is blank at the top of the list but is counted as a string.
