I have added a StatusStrip control and placed a StatusLabel inside of it. But now I want to know how to connect it to my TextBox to show the line number and position of the cursor, like: "Line 2, Row 6".
View 1 RepliesI'm working on a project that incorporates an Arduino Duemilanove board and a program that a wrote in VB 2008. Basically, when the Arduino receives a symbol from COM3, it sets a Pin on the board, high or low. I'm using two Pins, one is going to be for a laser, the other a relay. The relay is going to close a circuit, and act as the button on the Nerf Vulcan. That's right, I'm creating a Nerf sentry gun.It's going to be fully controlled from my computer. I have all of the code done for the servo, and all of that, both on the Arduino and in VB.
The Arduino sends the angle of the Servo that will control the right and left movement of the gun through COM3, every time it changes. I want my program to display that position in a textbox, as my program needs that value in order to properly function. Basically, I need the code to read from the serial port, and display what it receives in a textbox, textbox3.
what i need to do is open a txt file, read line by line, decode each line into an array and display. Now all works ok apart from one line.

I'm reading a text file with StreamReader, line by line. If a condition is met, then I do an operation and then start reading the file again from the first line. I realize I could close and then re-open the file, but surely this would be very slow.
I could do this easily in VB6, but pulling my hair out trying to do this in vB.net. It seems that 'Seek' is the function to use, but it doesn't work.
I've seen other examples, where it works, but you must open it a different way -- with a file number.

In form1 right before serial port ran I used Form2.Show() and Form2.TopMost = True to display processing status. However only blank Form2 was displayed without any text inside, which means the Label in Form2 was not running. But after serial operation was done, the text in form2 came up, at which time I need to close it.

I have figured out how to get the Integer Location of the apostrophy, but can't get it to color the rest of the line. I don't know how to tell the program to find the integer value of the last character in the line. I need that to be able to subtract the apostrophy's location from the last character's location, to get the "SelectedLength". Then I can add that to the apstrophy's location to give the SelectedLength the SelectionColor.This code was thrown together from excerpts of several codes I found on the web. I had to rewrite everything to get it to do what it does so far...
Apostrophy Location is char # 534 , the end of the line is 547. ( I cheated to get that count by placing another apostrophy there, and reclicking the btn. )Anyway, I want to take 547 - 534 to get (13) the SelectionLength, then give the SelectionColor ( green) to that selected text.

I've created a form with several controls to specify the inputs to my program. They include TextBox, OpenFileDialog, Button and even a user control for numeric input. When the user clicks the 'GO' button, the program begins it work. Opening several files and processing a bunch of numerical data. This could take many minutes/hours with large datasets.
What I've been trying to do is have another window/form open up and send status information to it for the user to view. The info to be displayed is varied and constantly updated as the program crunches the numbers. Many many programs do just this type of activity.
I attempted to create a second form with a huge TextBox thinking I'd just write stuff to it. I called the .show method within the .click of the 'GO' button and of course the form is displayed but control of the program's execution doesn't return until the form is closed. How to I maintain execution and have a second window/form to display status?
When I right click in a richtextbox, a context menu appears with an option 'get line'. When that is pressed, it should return the line number in which the mouse cursor is in.

I'm testing a small program that can read & write to an rtf file. Examples I have found work fine, although I have two questions:
1)If I need to ALWAYS write to line number 9 of an existing RTF file, do I need to "read" 9 times or can I immediately position myself to line number 9. I have found character manipulation but can't seem to find what I need with positioning to a particular line number.
2)BOLD text: I have found examples where I should be able to format my text, such as

but when doing this, it does not "bold" my text, but actually prints the text exactly as shown. I'm looking for information/links that I can "bold" "Italicize" text. Code is written in VS2005.
I have an application in VB.NET which gets string data from the database. This string has data which looks as below:

I need only part of the data, that comes after the new line i.e. "I have an issue with the application".
For this I am trying to search the position using InStr where the string has data in a new line. I tried many options, but they don't work.

a user copies multiple lines of text (say, from an email) into the clipboard. Based on my observations, when one tries to paste the text into a single-line textbox, only the first line is actually pasted in. (I am aware that the "obvious" solution would be to set the Multiline property to True, but there are reasons I am looking to avoid this and to put multi-line data into a single line.)

However the problem is that I am having problems displaying the form at my cursor position. I have a mdi chaild form in my app and when I right click I want to display my custom contextmenu form at the point where I right click in the mdichild form. The only other thing is that I want the middle of the form to be displayed at the cursor point.

Here is my problem: I developed one application in VB.Net in VS 2008 Express Edition on MS Vista. I published the application and created the installation setup. Now when I install this application on any Vista machine, it runs without any problems, but if I install it on an XP machine, the installation is clean, but when I launch the application, it ends abruptly without any warnings/error just after the splash screen.
Then to investigate further what I did was that I copied the source project from my VS 2008 Express Edition on Vista to an XP machine having full (VS 2008 Team System) version , and when I try to compile it there (XP/VS2008 Full), I get one error in one of the forms resx file. Incidently this is the same form that gets loaded after the splash screen. So I see there is some correlation between my application ending just after the splash screen and failing to compile the main form of the application. The error that I get reads like: "Invalid resx file. The parameter is incorrect Line 1374, position 5."
