I am working on a graphics application. If there were, for example, 3 rectangles in the picturebox. If you were to right click one of them a contextmenu would pop up. In the context menu you are able to click a button called Fill. When you click fill the selected rectangle gets filled in with the colour white. The rectangles are drawn by the user.
View 2 RepliesI have a ScreenCapture class that allows me to capture the content of the screen by specifying a X Y value of the top left and X Y value of the bottom right corner of a rectangle. This all works fine, however the problem that I have is that I want to capture the content of a panel on a form, the panel obviously has a location X and Y which gives me the top left position and I can use the width and height propoerty of the panel to determine the bottom right position. The problem that I have is this obviously gives me location of the panel on the form and not the screen. The other problem that I have is that this form is a MidiChild for another form.
So basically what I want to know is how can I get the location of the panel but as a screen position?
Apologies as this has probably been answered a million different times a million different ways already. I'm trying to control the mouse. I wish to move the mouse to a given pixel position (x, y) and cause a click. I don't want this to be limited within a form, as I want to control another application. I'm using VB 2005.

However the problem is that I am having problems displaying the form at my cursor position. I have a mdi chaild form in my app and when I right click I want to display my custom contextmenu form at the point where I right click in the mdichild form. The only other thing is that I want the middle of the form to be displayed at the cursor point.
View 2 RepliesI have the following code to set the cursor position in a 16bit display:
linCursor.x1 = VB6.PixelsToTwipsX(lblDisplay(pintCursorPos).Left) + 10
linCursor.x1 = VB6.PixelsToTwipsX(lblDisplay(pintCursorPos).Left) + 10
linCursor.X2 = VB6.PixelsToTwipsX(lblDisplay(pintCursorPos).Left) + VB6.PixelsToTwipsX(lblDisplay(pintCursorPos).Width) - 10
I need this code to be converted to vb.net.

View 2 RepliesI'm working on a project that incorporates an Arduino Duemilanove board and a program that a wrote in VB 2008. Basically, when the Arduino receives a symbol from COM3, it sets a Pin on the board, high or low. I'm using two Pins, one is going to be for a laser, the other a relay. The relay is going to close a circuit, and act as the button on the Nerf Vulcan. That's right, I'm creating a Nerf sentry gun.It's going to be fully controlled from my computer. I have all of the code done for the servo, and all of that, both on the Arduino and in VB.
The Arduino sends the angle of the Servo that will control the right and left movement of the gun through COM3, every time it changes. I want my program to display that position in a textbox, as my program needs that value in order to properly function. Basically, I need the code to read from the serial port, and display what it receives in a textbox, textbox3.
I have a listbox on my form which gets items added as the program progresses, when there are more items than the box can display, the vertical scrollbar appears, fine... so far so good.I would like the scrollbar default position to be at the bottom of it's column so that the last entered item is displayed but can't find the relevant command, I assume there is such a command.
View 2 RepliesI have only recently started using VB.NET after having a little experience in VB6. I am trying hard to force myself into this OOP mindset. I want to know if a certain thing is possible.
I want to be able to call a function in the beginning of my main form's startup sub. The function call would look something like this.
Code:
Private Sub frmMain_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim Username, Password, NewPassword as String

I am trying to write a program in VB2008 Express. I originally wrote it in excel, but I want to add some features and make it a standalone executable. the program is ideal for a spreadsheet application though.
essentially, there are two input tables. each containing about 6 columns and maybe 10 rows. I assume that could be handled by arrays. the output would be a continuously updated table of output based on calculations using the data from the two input tables. the output table would be about 4 columns by up to 1000+ rows, and would need to be recalculated and displayed each time any data in the input tables has changed.
first, are arrays sufficient to handle this? would databases be more appropriate?
second, what's the best way to display a long list of output, that has a user defined length and is continually updated. it would also be nice to have the ability to click on an individual cell (or value) in the output and have more code executed.
is there a way to incorporate a spreadsheet like tool for this as a backend? I want to make sure i'm using the most efficient approach before i invest too much time.
I don't usually use VB but now I must for an assignment. I would like to know if it's possible to change the display name for an object on a listbox. For instance, if I add to it a user defined class, there's a way to provide it's display name, instead of converting it to string and then add it.
This is what I have
Dim format As String = FormatOutput(object)
Lista.Items.Add(format)
I would like to have the same output, but instead add the object.
Note: if such is not possible, then how can I associate the list box selection to the actual object? Doing it by index is painfull, because I'm using linked lists (ie., instead of arrays).
Note 2: python has a __str__ method which is called by default when the object is cast to string. Is there anything like it in VB?
If i try
ListView1.Sorting = SortOrder.None
ListView1.ListViewItemSorter = Nothing
ListView1.Items.Insert(0, "0")
ListView1.Items.Insert(1, "1")
ListView1.Items.Insert(0, "2")
ListView1.Items.Insert(1, "3")
If ListView1.View is SmallIcon , LargeIcon or Tile it dont work (Display 0 1 2 3). If it's in List it works (Display desired 2 3 0 1).
I was wondering if there is a library or code snippet available for .NET (or that I can translate to .NET) to display animated PNG files (on the Graphics object, or even in a custom control)?
View 1 RepliesIm in a win.form app. in .Net 2008 I have a lot of Icons that I want to display on a (TouchScreen enviroment) button The icons are in 8,16; 32 bit in the sizes 16X16 ; 32X32 ; 48X48 The buttons are large enough, they have a dimension of 252X132. The images are loaded via the Button propertie : Image. This has allso a size propertie, but is disabled. And I can see its loading the 32X32 32bpp format But I want the 48X48 size on there. Does some 1 knows how to get those sizes op the button.
View 3 RepliesIs there an easy way to display the rgb code of system colors in VB2008?
That is, I am looking for some code that will retrieve the names of the colors that are used in the system colors and display their rgb codes (and maybe show a sample), so I could display, for example, what the rgb code for "control" is.
Is it possible to select an item in one listbox and then display the data of another listbox with the same indexed position? I am planning a project and this is something I would like to attempt but I haven't figured out how to do it.[code..]
I tried doing the above code but instead of displaying the listbox text the message box just returned false.
I have looking for a tutorial or class that demonstrates more than a trivial example of saving a windows position on closing. The ones I have found don't seem to work on all systems because of:
1. Multiple monitors. (and resolution between those monitors)
2. Toolbar size and position (toolbar is only on the primary monitor, well sometimes)
3. Sometimes the programs dont open on the right monitor they were closed on.
Is there an extensive class or tutorial on all the stuff a programmer needs to get right to have a window size and position persisted between executions?

I have few functions assigned in TextBox1_TextChanged event. The problem i am facing is this event is fired twice, once after the Fill command and another after the Position command whereas i want the event to fire only once after the Position command. What should i do?
We have a GIS application that has some performance issues. It creates and sends an image to a web browser. We start with a Bing Maps imager, add complex polygons (complete with transparent fill), save the finished image as a PNG, and send it to the browser.
The idea has come up that we could possibly install a graphics card and use DirectX or OpenGL to improve performance. I believe this would be the case even though we ultimately generate an image instead of sending the data the the screen. I believe our processes could still make use of the API and the hardware acceleration it provides. Our process is not unlike what CGI film makers do to render individuals frames of a film, though we simply render a single image and send it, as opposed to the hundreds of thousands of images needed for a single CGI film.
So my question is: would a powerful graphics card and use of DirectDraw or OpenGL provide us a worthwhile performance boost? It can take us 20-30 seconds to render a more complex map. Which is a long time to wait on a web page...
Im working on a project that needs to print a report of one client.Everything went smooth untill i came across my multiline input text data.When i display it in the PrintPagePreview the text go's outside my page. Even when im printing it only the halve of my text is displayed. I googled and looked everywhere but i can't get a clear fix for it.

I used to program with Visual Basic 6, so I have alot of old programs that I'm updating, plus I'm learning the new VB2008 methods. I'm writing a program that replaces the old "BitBlit" function which is no longer supported by Visual Basic 2008. It involves three picture boxes, one holds the sprite bitmap, a second holds the mask (silhouette) of the sprite bitmap, and a third has a background image.

drawing text on a window which is not the current form's window.I remember doing this in Win32 api with getwindowdc(handle) to obtain a DC for the Window, then textout() on the DC.
View 2 RepliesOk, I want to create a class that will handle a special rectangle graphic.In my form, I want to have two of these special rectangles. So, basically, I need two instances of that class in my form, right?I manage to initialize two, alright. But, how exactly am I supposed tomanage drawing/graphics etc in a class, and the results to be displayed in my form?

I also have a function that returns ALL tiles on the map and they're X, Y position. How could I find out which one is closest to the position I specify? I can't figure out how to go about it. how to implement it with this. Heres a MADE UP example if what I'm trying to do:
Dim MyPosition as New Position()
MyPosition.X = 400
MyPosition.Y = 400
Dim tList as New List(Of Tile) = MyMap.GetTiles
Now, I can already do the stuff above, but what I need to make is something like this:
tList.GetTileClosestToPosition(MyPosition)
