Search For New Line Position In A String Variable Using InStr

I have an application in VB.NET which gets string data from the database. This string has data which looks as below:

"This is the update: I have an issue with the application"

I need only part of the data, that comes after the new line i.e. "I have an issue with the application".

For this I am trying to search the position using InStr where the string has data in a new line. I tried many options, but they don't work.

I used "vbCrLf", Chr(13), "
", "
", "<br/>", Environment.NewLine, but none of them work.

How can I get the data I need?

How would you go about searching a webbrowser for a line containing a string? Here is my code so far:

I have the following condition

If InStr("a,b,c", stringA) > 0 OrElse (InStr("y,z", stringB) > 0 AndAlso value = 0) Then
endif

COndition 1 is false so i check for condition 2 that is "(InStr("y,z", stringB) > 0 AndAlso value = 0) "

What puzzles me is that when stringB is nothing it still falls into the if condition and executes the code.

On first look it would seem that when stringB is nothing condition2 would fail and as a result would not fall into the if condition.

What i am trying to do is take a character (which is going to be into a variable by user input) and search a string for this character, and save the positions of all character found and then change the same position of these characters in another string for the character that the user inputs. In other words, like a guess a word game. User tryes a guess, i search the string for that letter or number, if it's there replace it on the text box of the GUi, if not save it in another variable as a character that has been tried already, possibly an array.

I would like to read an HTML file, search each line to see if it starts with </head>. Then add the centering code after it. That line at destination file should read:

After this I don't care to search for anything. Just read from source and write to destination. I know there are programs out there to find/replace text in series of files but I am not allowed to use external programs.

I have a WinForms app with a multi-line textbox. This displays and retains (after loading from the DB) line break characters fine. However if I assign the TextBox.Text value to a string variable and then re-assign the variable back to the TextBox.Text property, the line break characters are lost and replaced with a square character (can't past them here as they just paste as a line break!)

I'm having troubles making a program to search a text file line by line for a specific string.

as you can see in the code its supposed to read a text file and if the line contains the same string as in the textbox then its gonna make a messagebox.

now the problem, if the line does not contain the specific string but the next or any line other line does, then it should automatically read the next line on "Else" and that's where I'm lost

for a "Readnextline" command or something like that?

I'm reading a text file with StreamReader, line by line. If a condition is met, then I do an operation and then start reading the file again from the first line. I realize I could close and then re-open the file, but surely this would be very slow.

I could do this easily in VB6, but pulling my hair out trying to do this in vB.net. It seems that 'Seek' is the function to use, but it doesn't work.

I've seen other examples, where it works, but you must open it a different way -- with a file number.

I'm currently working on a program that involves a listbox, database and some (rich) Textboxes. Let's assume I'm making a contactlist program.The database connection is established, placed 'ContactName' in listbox.When you click on someone's name in the listbox, I want the program to get the data of that person and show that data in RichTextbox1. I've spend hours thinking how to accomplish that but all I got was headaches.

A second thing I would like to do is to place a textbox on the form and when you type a character it removes all the entries in the listbox except for the ones that matches.So if I'm searching for John Doe and I type "John" in the textbox I would like to see all the John's in my contact list. Or when I search for John and only type "oh" I would like to remove all the items that don't have any "oh" in their names. (Search box)

I'm writing a text editor for my own use ( I'm "home learning") where I want to be able to leave comments for myself, like in code section of the VB express IDE. I have figured out how to get the Integer Location of the apostrophy, but can't get it to color the rest of the line. I don't know how to tell the program to find the integer value of the last character in the line. I need that to be able to subtract the apostrophy's location from the last character's location, to get the "SelectedLength". Then I can add that to the apstrophy's location to give the SelectedLength the SelectionColor.This code was thrown together from excerpts of several codes I found on the web. I had to rewrite everything to get it to do what it does so far...

Apostrophy Location is char # 534 , the end of the line is 547. ( I cheated to get that count by placing another apostrophy there, and reclicking the btn. )Anyway, I want to take 547 - 534 to get (13) the SelectionLength, then give the SelectionColor ( green) to that selected text.

I'm testing a small program that can read & write to an rtf file. Examples I have found work fine, although I have two questions:

1)If I need to ALWAYS write to line number 9 of an existing RTF file, do I need to "read" 9 times or can I immediately position myself to line number 9. I have found character manipulation but can't seem to find what I need with positioning to a particular line number.

2)BOLD text: I have found examples where I should be able to format my text, such as

MyFile.WriteLine ""
MyFile.WriteLine Text
MyFile.WriteLine "0"

but when doing this, it does not "bold" my text, but actually prints the text exactly as shown. I'm looking for information/links that I can "bold" "Italicize" text. Code is written in VS2005.

I have a very large number of tables with data in the following format:

A X Y Z
1 0-2 0-13 0-1
2 3-5 14 2-4
3 6-9 15-16 5-10

In other words, there is a variable (call it A) with a single value that corresponds to a range of values in the other variables (call them X, Y, and Z).My program needs to accept user text input of values of X, Y, Z, etc. and then match each to the corresponding value of A.Example: User enters 4 in the X text box; program determines that if X=4, A=2.Again, we're talking about tables and tables of data in this format. Unaware of a better method, I have been using arrays.

Example:

Dim a() as double = {1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3,3...}
Dim x() as double = {0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10...}

Note how I had to artificially deal with variable A so that the index of each score corresponds to the index of the matching X variable.It is this modification of the variables that is taking forever. There has to be a better way! Hypothetically, what I need is the ability to do something like this:

Dim a() as double = {1,2,3,4...}
dim x() as double = {0 to 2, 3 to 5, 6 to 9...}

Is there a way to represent a range of values at a single index of an array, such as my hypothetical example above? This would save me hours of re-shaping the data to make the arrays work.

Invalid Resx File Parameter Is Incorrect Line 1374, Position 5?

Here is my problem: I developed one application in VB.Net in VS 2008 Express Edition on MS Vista. I published the application and created the installation setup. Now when I install this application on any Vista machine, it runs without any problems, but if I install it on an XP machine, the installation is clean, but when I launch the application, it ends abruptly without any warnings/error just after the splash screen.

Then to investigate further what I did was that I copied the source project from my VS 2008 Express Edition on Vista to an XP machine having full (VS 2008 Team System) version , and when I try to compile it there (XP/VS2008 Full), I get one error in one of the forms resx file. Incidently this is the same form that gets loaded after the splash screen. So I see there is some correlation between my application ending just after the splash screen and failing to compile the main form of the application. The error that I get reads like: "Invalid resx file. The parameter is incorrect Line 1374, position 5."

Is it possible for example to give each graphic path an identity when drawn, then select any one (via mousedown, whatever) and link it to the dragged mouse co-ordinates until released? Send XML File Error 'Data At The Root Level Is Invalid. Line 1, Position 39'

I am attempting to send my XML file through an API. I have done this no problem by using the below code, however when I try and send the FILE over it will not work, I am now getting in the browser:

Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 39.

Without trying to send FILE it works:

' create the Xml that the Msxml2.serverXmlHttp object will send to the Webservice
