Alphabetically Sort Letters Shown In List?

Jan 20, 2010

I am working on the old hangman game. I am up to a part were I have to use a sort button to alphabetically sort the letters already guessed that are showing in the list.

I have found this code:
Array.Sort(strLettersGuessed)
lblGuessed.Text = ""
For i = 0 To strLettersGuessed.Length - 1
lblGuessed.Text = lblGuessed.Text + strLettersGuessed(i) + ", "
[Code] .....

The problem I am having is where the flow chart asks us "is the letter at counter < the letter at counter -1? In my above code I am trying to answer this with this line:
If intCounter < strLettersGuessed.Length - 1 Then

I have tried about 50 different things in place of intCounter as well as strLettersGuessed.Length -1 and nothing seems to work. Sometimes I get an error stating can't be infinite, etc or I get no error at all but the sort button doesn't work.

Loading Text File To Sorted List

Jan 15, 2009

I wrote the code and it works great but then i thought i'd have a little challenge and go above and beyond. i decided to make a highscore leader board system. i used the following variables and sub classes to make it but im having a slight issue...

CODE:

The idea is that i wanted to make the system able to associate a name with a score, sort the score from greatest to lowest, save it to a text file, load it from the text file, repeat.
so heres a quick list of what i have working...
-Stores name and score
-Sorts by score then outputs
-occasional index of -1 issue
-saves score and name to a text file
-loads score and name when the form loads
-CANNOT add new data to the sorted list...

Thats my main issue. When i have data loaded from last time i try to add a new score to the list but then it gives me an error.

InvalidOperationException was unhandled Failed to compare two array elements

-pointing to the line...

In the details of the exception it continues to say...InnerException {"object must be of type String"}
i don't know which parameter its referring to tho, the variable name is already of type string and count is type integer.

VS 2008 Score Board, Having A Sorted List Sort On Integer?

Oct 5, 2010

I keep track of a score system for all users in a sorted list;

dim Scores as new sortedlist(of string, integer)

I can easely increse points for a cirtain person by;

scores("peter").value += 1

Now I need to display a top x list of the users, if users have the same score, it should sort alphabetically on the name. Of course it's also possible that users have the same score.I've already tried to make a new sorted list with as key the score, and added to that score the username. Later when displaying the scores, I've replaced the username with nothing. The only problem in this solution is that the numbers are sorted on asci value which has this order:

0
1
10
2
3
4

Also, if you make a sorted list like this:

dim Scores as new sortedlist(of integer, string)

You can't have two people with the same score... So, there must be something possible with the iComparer to sort on integers right?

Get Selected Item Index Or A Sorted & Grouped List Relative To Item Source?

Feb 12, 2011

I'm having some difficulty with a sorted & grouped listbox in WPF vb.net 3.5 that has an items source bound to an ObservableCollection.

What I want to be able to do is to retrieve a piece of data from the ObservableCollection items source depending on what item in the listbox the user has selected.I've almost got it working but because the listbox is sorted it does not match the index of the items source.

[code]...

As I previously mentioned, because the lstBox is sorted and also grouped the index's don't match up.Does anyone know how I can get the correct information I want from the List Source depending on the selected item in the list box?

Get Minimum Value From Type List Generated From Linq To SQL?

Jun 21, 2011

I'm returning a list of database records;

Dim rsPublicChilds As System.Data.Linq.ISingleResult(Of spGetPublicObjectsResult) = Nothing
rsPublicChilds = dc.spGetPublicObject(slintLoginID, lintLanguageID, lintObjectID, lintObjectTypeID, lstrSEOURL, lstrValid)

I get an enumerable list of rsPublicChildObjects that I then convert to an array;

Dim larr_PublicChild As IEnumerable(Of spGetPublicObjectsResult) = rsPublicChilds.toArray()

That then gives me easy access to an array of the objects, so I can then do;

larr_publicchild(0).colMyValue

etc.etc

I'd like to get the minimum value of colMyValue (or any other property of the object that's been created for me) but I can't quite see how to get there.

.net - Populating A List Box With Variable Names From LINQ Generated Class?

Nov 17, 2009

I'm quite new to Visual Basic - using Visual Studio 2008 and can't seem to find a way to do the following:

I have a few tables in a SQL Server database and have used LINQ to SQL to create classes of those tables.

Here's a cut down example of what I'd like:listbox1 filled with table names - APS, SMPS, WCPC, CFLAPS
Then from the SelectedIndexChanged event, listbox2 should populate column headers of the selected table.

I have no issues getting data from the database, and can access all of these headers through the anonymous type objects created from a LINQ query (eg APS.ID, APS.count etc), but populating a listbox with these variable names rather than the data inside them seems rather elusive.

This is probably a cross platform coding question rather than VB specific, so if you have a solution in C# or whatever I'd be happy if you could let me know.
