IDE :: Install A MSI Package As A Prerequisite For An Installation Using Wix Setup?
Aug 17, 2010
I need to Install a MSI Package as a Prerequisite For an Installation Using Wix Setup...How Can I do it....? I first need to install this MSI package and only want to Continue the Set up,If this Installation Would be Successful...
Is there a way to make a setup package on VB 2010 that will check prerequisite addons on clients PC?
The setup will check if MS Access 2010 Engine and Crystal Reports Runtime 2010 is installed. If the installer detected its already installed it will just install the application.
If one or both prerequisite is not found the installer will install the addon automatically.
I've created a setup project for a VB.NET 2010 application that I've written. The application, and the installer both work fine on my development machine. The installer works fine on other machines, but when I run my application it immediately crashes and dies without telling me anything useful. I've tried it on Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows Vista machines... and all had the same problem, so I think it's more of a package configuration issue than a machine-specific problem. Here's the most useful information that I was able to get out of it:
I have a VB.NET Windows Form application which uses DAO, no plans to upgrade it to ADO.NET. Created a Deployment Project to generate the installation.
Tried to install on a clean Windows XP SP1 computer: it worked right away (it installed .NET Framework first, rebooted and resumed my application setup).
Then... as it always happens, the CD goes to the user and... error! After checking everything, I discovered the user didn't have DAO360.DLL registered in his machine.
Is there anyway I can check/fix it during installation? DAO360.DLL is already in the Detected Dependencies of my deployment project, but it was not registered in user's computer. Like in my own installation test (clean Windows XP SP1 computer), registering this DLL may not be necessary. In other cases (like in this user's computer) might be needed.
How can I make sure DAO 3.6 is working in user's computer?
I tried to have Microsoft Data Access Components as prerequisite, but it doesn't appear on the list.
PS: This is an application that should run on computer with .NET Framekwork 2.0 - this was my only requisite... then I was surprised by this DAO problem but I don't think I should listen it as a prerequisite (might be too technical for the user).
I do one project in visual basic 2010.In visual basic 6 project can be make Package and deployment (setup file or install file) file using Package and deployment wizard. But in visual basic 2010 express edition does not have Package and deployment wizard.how to make Package and deployment (setup file or install file) file in visual basic 2010 project?
I am wanting to use an application to package all my files together into a setup package. I have tried InstallShield 2011, but when i click on Visual Basic .net wizard, it tells me I do not have Visual Studio.NET installed on my system. I am currently using VB2010 Express How can I fix this... or is there a better application available for packaging?
I have developed a windows application in VB 2008. Now I want to make an Installation Package (setup) of my Project. But I don't want to create only the Setup. I want to include the .Net Framework 3.5 and Crystal Reports and all the files that are necessary to run my Application. so that when I run that setup (installation package of my application) all the necessary files installed automatically.
I have a .chm file linked to my app that is presently being called from it's actual location.HelpProvider1.HelpNamespace = C:Documents and SettingsmgfranzMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsApp NameCleanUp.chm
But when I package the app the directory is going to change to C:Program FilesApp Name by default. The problem arises if the user decides to create an alternate directory. Is there a way to set a $Path at setup runtime so that when the .chm file is called it knows to look in the Home installation directory? Here is the code I use to call the .chm; Private Sub PictureBox1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles PictureBox1.Click
I was wondering if it is possible to bundle a .net framework client runtime (.net framework 4 to be exact). Because not many computers have .net framework 4 Installed and i don't want them to download from the microsoft site. As i checked the program itself is a redistributable package <link>. Now the problem comes how do i integrate this into my own installer so that instead of asking for a download it would just ask to install the framework and then install from the setup that will be included in the package. I am using a standard setup project. Using VS 2010 Pro.
I'm getting a new computer, and I want to keep VS 2005 instead of upgrading because:
- I don't want to have to upgrade all 143 of my projects. - I don't like the way VS 2008 looks. - VS 2010 is just slow to the point of absurdity. - I don't want to have to re-download the whole package and install it, which took about 4 hours for VS 2008, 10 hours for VS 2010.
Is there a way to just copy everything over? It's Express Edition. Also, would the old setup file work, or is support for VS 2005 completely gone?
This is not for a class. I would like to know if anyone has information to use the bootstrapper from MS or how to include MS DotnetFix.exe in an application to install onto a computer that does not have it. Also is this possible for mobile devices if the application would need to be packaged for them also?
When i try to run a msi using System.Process.Start("test.msi") in a vb app i get the following error. The installation package could not be opened. Contact application vendor. Msi file works fine when double clicked, tried System.Process.Start with text files and exe files and they work fine, problem only with msi files. Running vista. Also tried xp but no luck.
I am building a winform vb.net program that uses an access db. I have added the database to the program using the design-time tools in visual studio 2008 (added a dataset to the project), and I am now using the dataset to bind items within my forms successfully. When I debug the program everythin works great, but then when I publish the program, I get an error saying that the database was not found in the appdata/app/2.0/(a very long encoded folder name) folder.
How do I modify the project so that it publishes the database with the project using the one-click install?
I have been working on an activeX control which works on serial port communication. Now I have completed the project and created its setup.exe using Visual studio 6 -> Tools -> Package and Deployment Wizard. Then I installed the control in another PC and in a new project included the control using project -> components. But when I click on the control in the toolbox and then include on the form it gives the following error : delete current link ? and on clicking OK, nothing happens. I tried searching a lot on google but didnt find anything. Another problem is that I have created a string array as a global array which can be accessed by all the methods.I am able to include the same activex control in my own pc when I have created the project. Here it works fine, I am able to access all the methods that I coded in the control, but the String array mentioned above can be accessed in other project. I tried writing Public before the array declaration but it give me the compile error : "Constants. fixed length strings, arrays, user defined types and Declare statements not allowed as Public members of object module." [code]
I finished an important project (Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition) and now I have to deliver it with an appropriate installation program. My product is composed by a lot of projects and each of them generates an exe file with its images, help, xml , database etc. A main exe calls a sub exe for the work it has to do passing appropriate parameters. I think is not suitable to use a click-once feature and I have looked for the deployment wizard but I didnt found a complete documentation and moreover some example step by step.where can I find that documentation, tutorial and example ? Its possible to customize the forms generated by the wizard ?
When you download the .msi from our website and try to run it, you are presented with this very unfriendly message (attached). I'm using an Installer deployment project in VB.Net 2005 Pro - is there something I can do to avoid this error?
how I can include a file in a setup.exe package and have it copy/add that file into a specific folder/directory when the install is run?
I have a Crystal Report that is in the application's "Release" folder in the development environment. I need to have this .rpt file copied to a folder on the user's C: drive when the Setup.exe is run.
I currently have VS2008 with SQL Analysis Services, SQL Integration Services, and SQL Reporting Services. Now I need VB.Net 2008 to write and compile a utility app incorporating a 3rd party API library, but I don't know which product to download.
My IT department sent me an MSDN Subscription Benefit Access Number in my name, and there are many products under the VS2008 header.
I'm guessing I need, "Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition (x86) - DVD (English)". Is this correct?I don't anticipate needing any other tools (outside of VB.Net, and the SQL products)Will installing this break my other three products, or leave them intact?
I have developed an application which includes CR to display reports. I just found out to run these report, CR runtime engine needs to be installed. I would like to know if possible to include the installation of CR Runtime Engine in the set up of my application? I have noticed the pre-requisite option in VS 2010. But how to add CR Runtime Engine installation to my set up?
I completed an application in vb.net and i'm using sql server 2005 as database engine. Now I want to create a software package for this application. But the problem is that how can I include the database within this package,I'm also using a crystal report viewer.ie, How can I install this application to a system that doesn't have sql server?.
I have created a windows application which Installs Multiple MSI's based on some condition. The project is created in Visual Studio 2008 with .Net framework 3.5; If this application runs in a machine which has atleast Dot Net 2.0 installs, it works fine. but the system without framework 2.0 throws an error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)"
How can I stop my application from crashing. I tried giving a check in the Main(), but it is not even firing the Main(); Is there any way I can give a prerequisite, But not in the Publish, Coz i am using the output exe and not the clickonce output..
I have developed a windows forms desktop application using vb.net 2005. It is installed on client computers using a setup package.
One of the clients wants to redistribute the setup package to other users.
He wants to provide the users with an initialization file containing the database server name which they will be using, so that it is available when the application is installed. They are apparently incapable of physically typing in a server name themselves after installing the application.
Is there any way I can include a separate file with the setup package which the application can find after it has been installed?
I've made a program but when others try and run the installer they're getting the error "unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly Microsoft.vbe.Interop Version 12.0.0.90 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache first.
I am using a 3rd party dll in an application and the installer does not register the component irrespective of any settings in the install package. It will register manually though using regsrv32 after installation. My question is how can I use the System. Diagnostics. Process.Start("cmd.exe")function to call the regsvr32 with the dll name after installation from the install package, also the correct syntax for referencing the installation folser if the user amends it on install so that it doesn't fail on execution because of spaces.Dim stRegPath as String= "regsvr32 & "" & Path.GetDirectoryName (Assembly. GetExecutingAssembly().Location) & "rogue.dll".
