Is there a way to make a setup package on VB 2010 that will check prerequisite addons on clients PC?
The setup will check if MS Access 2010 Engine and Crystal Reports Runtime 2010 is installed. If the installer detected its already installed it will just install the application.
If one or both prerequisite is not found the installer will install the addon automatically.

I have tried InstallShield 2011, but when i click on Visual Basic .net wizard, it tells me I do not have Visual Studio.NET installed on my system. The application, and the installer both work fine on my development machine.The installer works fine on other machines, but when I run my application it immediately crashes and dies without telling me anything useful. My product is composed by a lot of projects and each of them generates an exe file with its images, help, xml , database etc. A main exe calls a sub exe for the work it has to do passing appropriate parameters. I think is not suitable to use a click-once feature and I have looked for the deployment wizard but I didn�t found a complete documentation and moreover some example step by step.where can I find that documentation, tutorial and example ? The project is created in Visual Studio 2008 with .Net framework 3.5; If this application runs in a machine which has atleast Dot Net 2.0 installs, it works fine. but the system without framework 2.0 throws an error "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)"

View 1 RepliesI have developed a windows forms desktop application using vb.net 2005. It is installed on client computers using a setup package.
One of the clients wants to redistribute the setup package to other users.
He wants to provide the users with an initialization file containing the database server name which they will be using, so that it is available when the application is installed. They are apparently incapable of physically typing in a server name themselves after installing the application.
Is there any way I can include a separate file with the setup package which the application can find after it has been installed?
Here is my idea so far: I have a bunch of computers connected in a local network. One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. I have a VB.NET Windows Form application which uses DAO, no plans to upgrade it to ADO.NET. Created a Deployment Project to generate the installation.
Tried to install on a clean Windows XP SP1 computer: it worked right away (it installed .NET Framework first, rebooted and resumed my application setup).
Then... as it always happens, the CD goes to the user and... error! After checking everything, I discovered the user didn't have DAO360.DLL registered in his machine.
Is there anyway I can check/fix it during installation? DAO360.DLL is already in the Detected Dependencies of my deployment project, but it was not registered in user's computer. Like in my own installation test (clean Windows XP SP1 computer), registering this DLL may not be necessary. In other cases (like in this user's computer) might be needed.
How can I make sure DAO 3.6 is working in user's computer?
I tried to have Microsoft Data Access Components as prerequisite, but it doesn't appear on the list.
PS: This is an application that should run on computer with .NET Framekwork 2.0 - this was my only requisite... then I was surprised by this DAO problem but I don't think I should listen it as a prerequisite (might be too technical for the user).
I have written a program in vb.net with mysql database.Now, my question is how can I add the mysql installation along with the query to create the database that my program is using? I wanted to include .net framework also in the installation.
