Include DAO As A Prerequisite Or Automatic Install
Mar 9, 2012
I have a VB.NET Windows Form application which uses DAO, no plans to upgrade it to ADO.NET. Created a Deployment Project to generate the installation.
Tried to install on a clean Windows XP SP1 computer: it worked right away (it installed .NET Framework first, rebooted and resumed my application setup).
Then... as it always happens, the CD goes to the user and... error! After checking everything, I discovered the user didn't have DAO360.DLL registered in his machine.
Is there anyway I can check/fix it during installation? DAO360.DLL is already in the Detected Dependencies of my deployment project, but it was not registered in user's computer. Like in my own installation test (clean Windows XP SP1 computer), registering this DLL may not be necessary. In other cases (like in this user's computer) might be needed.
How can I make sure DAO 3.6 is working in user's computer?
I tried to have Microsoft Data Access Components as prerequisite, but it doesn't appear on the list.
PS: This is an application that should run on computer with .NET Framekwork 2.0 - this was my only requisite... then I was surprised by this DAO problem but I don't think I should listen it as a prerequisite (might be too technical for the user).
I need to Install a MSI Package as a Prerequisite For an Installation Using Wix Setup...How Can I do it....? I first need to install this MSI package and only want to Continue the Set up,If this Installation Would be Successful...

I would like to be able to include the folders "Bible" and it's subfolders into the install folder of the host machine. How do I do that? Also, how do I determine the install folders? I would like them to be: C:Program FilesGarman Softwareetc
I need to include an excel file in the installation project of an application. I've added it to the install project under application folder. I need to read that file into a dataset during runtime. The file needs to be included on install so that the customer can change the file as needed.
My program I wrote is using Outlook 12.0 lib for Outlook 2007. I have referenced this in the project. This exe will only be installed on computers that has Outlook 2007 on it. So with this being the case, do I need to bother including any of the lib files? Or just my exe?I have this in my form:
So I assume the Interop is all part of the object lib? I know this sounds crazy but I tried coding it using late-binding with many examples but just had too many problems. So I'm going to make three different exe's for versions 2003, 2007 and 2010.
I have a service projecwith a deployment project in a solution. The installation is successful, service runs ok. However each time after installation I will have to use ervices.msc to start up the software or restart the machine, any idea how I can start the services as soon a
I am in the right forum. My apologies if this is a stupid question, I am a relitively inexperienced coder.
I have a VB.NET program that writes to Excel 2003. On testing the program works fine as long as I add the PIA's to the target machine prior to use. To avoid this problem when this roles out to clients, I wish to add the PIA's as a prerequisite. I have sorced the redistributable versions for 2003 here:
Is there a way to make a setup package on VB 2010 that will check prerequisite addons on clients PC?
The setup will check if MS Access 2010 Engine and Crystal Reports Runtime 2010 is installed. If the installer detected its already installed it will just install the application.
If one or both prerequisite is not found the installer will install the addon automatically.
why is "sql server express" a prerequisite when i deploy my application? is it because i am using the "oledb" class? im using it to connect to a ms access database...could i be using any other class that would not require "sql server" to be a prereq? what about the "ado" class?
I have a project that i have created in Visual Studio express and SQL server express. i want to create an install file so that i can send to others to install. Currently it is requiring the user to install SQL server Express and 3.5 .net framework.what steps can i take to stop the user having to install these 2 so that it is a simple install for them.
I'm looking to make a simple install wizard to install my program (I know Visual Studio 2010 already has an installer) but anyway, I would like to make it myself, kind of line reinvent the wheel?
While trying to install my application, when system tries to install .Net Framework, it gives an error. Is there any source where I could download uninstalled .Net Framework 3.0 and provide my clients with application?
Is it possible to install VS 2010 first, then install VS2008?i am asking this because in many cases(specially while installing the O.S) i see that after installing the higher version the lower version of O.S cant be installed....and if want to install linux then it might be installed after installing all the windows O.S starting from xp,then vista, then win7 and finally fedora 12..
my vb experience is fairly limited - I've only used it when supporting legacy applications or for small tasks so apologies if what I'm asking seems simple. I wrote a small vb install script which creates a new folder on a users desktop, copies over relevant files from the install folder to the users new folder and creates a shortcut on the users desktop.
This works great for giving stuff to QA to test. However, there's one dll included in the install folder which is also in the users GAC. The code looks in the GAC first for this dll and only looks in the install folder if none exists in the GAC.
What I want to do is include a line in my install script to copy this dll to the users GAC as well as copying it to the installation folder. Is there anyway to do this in VB? I did find the following on one of the MS sites for installing into the GAC gacutil /i a.dll
Is it possible to run this through VB or is there a cleaner way of doing this?

I am designing an Windows application in Vb.net. When ever I run the application it needs to check the current time and remind me some tasks which I have defined. In what way can I do this.
I want to send an automatic E-mail based on the date. If the current date is greater than 5 days than the current date field in the table then i need to send an E-mail to the designated person. I am using VS.NET2003/VB.NET/ASP.NET/SQL Sever 2000.
I'm looking for visual basic.net code (for visual basic express) to take automatic screenshots (timeout=60 seconds) for application testing. But every code has a lot of bugs:For example: [URL]Errors like:
Error 1 'Protected Overrides Sub Dispose(disposing As Boolean)' has multiple definitions with identical signatures. Error 2 'Private Sub InitializeComponent()' has multiple definitions with identical signatures. Error 3 'components' is already declared as 'Private components As System.ComponentModel.IContainer' in this class.

I have the following situation: An interface (Windows forms) to a dataset. It has binding navigator, binding source, table adater etc operating with a dataset. How can I make a textbox for an ID field automatically generate an appropriate number for the ID? Just like the sql server direct database editor generates an id for fields with the "is identity" and "auto increment" properties on.
I have a problem regarding an access file I attached to this post.I have a table which contains the costs(VVGK) for each month in 2008, 2009 and 2010. For each month we have planned costs(Plan) and the real costs (Ist). And what I want to realize is that in the report in the top right it automatically displays the percentage difference between the plan and real costs of the last month. And this should then be automatic every time I give new input(new month, new VVGK Ist).
