Feb 26, 2010I am trying to make a simple form that will display a count when the users clicks a button. I want the count to be readable as the program loops the math. So as it adds 1 + 1, 1 + 2, 1 + 3, ect... I want each loop to display in the label. Below is the basic code I came up with, but I can not figure out how put a delay of something like 100 milliseconds in the loop. The idea is for the slower version of the basic count console app you learn in school and I basically need to slowdown the math and display the sum as the loop loops.
Below is my code.

Mar 22, 2012am new here. am using vb2010. I have a form with 3 panel. each panel have 10buttons. when click on button 1 from panel 1, it will show panel 2. Then on panel 2, when cancel button is click, it will go back to panel 1. My problem is, when go back to panel 1, all the buttons in panel 1 shows very slow. It shows one button after another.

Mar 24, 2009I am new to VB.Net, but I can tell you so far I love programming. That said, I'm building a tool basically to parse and display simple plain text log files. I'm hitting one stumbling block that really has me frustrated.
Other tools are able to load huge log files (500MB even) in a number of seconds. My tool, basically hangs loading a file that is maybe 5MB.
I'm using the MyString = StreamReader.ReadToEnd to read the contents into a string, and then RichTextBox1.Text = MyString to display the contents. That said, I really want to display the contents in a datagrid, but there has to be a better way of doing this?
How can I get my application to load larger files and display them faster? What am I doing wrong?

Jun 5, 2011I've got a vb.net 2005 form that calls a stored proc to load a combobox with eligible sales reps. There are approximately 40k sales reps available...I know that's a lot, but that's what I'm dealing with. I'm trying to figure out why it's taking this form 15 seconds to load.

Want to load this in the most efficient way possible given the HUGE amount of data that my client is wanting to see.

IDE :: Slow Code Editing In VS 2010 Beta 1?
Jul 1, 2009I've tried using the VS 2010 beta to edit some real projects, and it is next to unusable due to performance issues. The cpu is more or less constantly at 100%, and most often the code editor uses around 10 seconds to respond to any text input. If I introduce a couple of compile errors things get even worse. Are there some drastical performance improvements that are planned in the VB editor before release, or are there special things that might trigger this?

Oct 19, 2011I am using DataSet.ReadXml() to create a DataSet from the following XML file, so that I can quickly query it using Linq.[URL]..I then use the following object to create a DataTable which can be used as a dictionary, with a ConvertToFriendlyFormat function that takes an Emulator_Id and and a string that corresponds to a DicEntry node's StoredFormat attributed, and return the same node's FriendlyFormat attribute.
This does work BUT it is extremely slow (~11 seconds to call it ~220 times). I have been unable to figure out how create the DataSet when the object is initialised and just query the simple DataTable in the ConvertToFriendlyFormat call. I guess this is what is slowing it down?

Application Slow Is DB Access/text File Code Ok?
Jan 26, 2012I noticed that my application is running a bit slow. This is a Windows Service built using VB2010 with SQL Server as a back end. Its main function is to poll a folder looking for a text file. If found it reads the text file and imports the data into SQL Server.
While the slowness could be caused by a number of reasons, I am looking at my code to determine if it could be more efficient. Below I've pasted snippets of code where I initialize the DB connection and execute SQL statements. I've also included a snippet that illustrates how I am processing the text file.
I'd appreciate if the group could have a look at these and let me know if the method that I am using is the most efficient possible. At this time I am also focusing on other probable issues, but I can't rule out the possibility that the code that is in place might be a contributing factor.

VS 2008 Auto-Format Curly Brace Code Too Slow
Apr 30, 2009I have written a quick 'algorithm' that automatically formats curly brace code in the correct way:[code]It works quite simple, it loops through all the lines and keeps track of the brace count using a counter. The counter will be incremented by 1 if it finds an opening brace, and decremented by 1 if it finds a closing brace.Then, each line is trimmed, and a total of "n" tabs is inserted before the text, where "n" is the brace count as explained above.[code]So my question basically is, how can I avoid having to do the same thing (exchanging lines) twice? I have noticed that the actual exchanging of lines is very slow, so having to do it twice for each closing brace line is simply a very bad design..

Aug 21, 2009Form A accepts user input, closes and calls Form B when user wants to see results. Form B starts calculations automatically. Meanwhile, it partially displays and can disappear completely leaving an empty window. The calculations can take some time. It seems as if a form needs code to stop running and be awaiting user input before it finishes drawing itself. Is there a way to circumvent this? Aside from the aesthetics, I would like user to see progress reports posted to status bar and without needing to press another button (so removing automatic start). Form B has only a return button for input.
I have tried various places for Me.Show and addressing the form's controls from the modules it uses.

Using A Text Box To Display The V_KEY Code And Time Stamp It?
Jan 15, 2012I have a really interesting task I need to code and I'm stuck. The application I'm creating Takes the mute button on my laptop and triggers an even when the mute button is pressed.
The issue is I found when the mute button is pressed, the computer sends the v_key code for volume down in a rapid rate. What I want to do is display the v_key code and a time stamp in a text box:
When I press the mute key, the v_key code and time stamp are displayed for every instance that code is thrown. The same goes for un-mute.I'm having issues with my application not triggering the event when the mute is pressed because the computer is shooting out the v_key code so many times, so fast.
My plan is to create a kind of de-bounce logic- IF the v_key code is detected x amount of times in y timespan then.To do this I need to know how fast and how many times this code is occuring.
Any direction or ideas on how to go about this?
