I just moved from VS2005 to 2008. All seemed fine until I started playing with locally cached data sources. After that I started getting this problem and now I get it even when starting a new project. I start a new project and debug, Form1 shows and all is well. If I add a combobox to the form and debug the form immediately closes. It doesn't seem to do it for other controls.

I have a new 64 bit machine with vs2008 - is there anyway to mouseover a guid value and have it appear? What makes guid's so special that their value doesn't show like most variables?

View 7 RepliesOk, So I am making a front-end for a program, and it runs the exe with command line arguments. One of those arguments is creating a log file that tells me who the winner is. Currently I have code that runs the app, tell VB when it exits and then does another event. When testing with message box as the other event, works fine.
When running the System.IO.Streamreader the app just closes down on its own and there are no errors shown.

I am making a 2D game that has a player (me) that shoots bullets (pictureboxes) and kills other enemies. The problem is that when there are many bullets on the screen it gets very slow because it has to move every picturebox.
View 11 RepliesI'm having to write a reporting application that gets information from some Interbase servers and it also has to work on Vista as well as XP, I'm using to connect Borlands Data Provider.[code]My Issue is that debugging on my xp Machine the dataset gets filled, debugging on my vista box it fails ("Interbase provider initialization failed"), my initial thought was that this could be UAC related but I've compiled the application and 'ran as admin' and still same issue. (by the way it failes on the line Dim da as BdpDataAdapter...)

Question: At the beginning I am opening form1 from sub Main(). Now from the menu I am openning form2. In form2 I am clicking Done button to hide form2 and go back to form1. It works fine in the 1st trial. Keeping form1 open for the 2nd time, I opened form2 from the menu. Now when I Click the Done button 2nd time it just hides up everything. Form1 does not show UP. It just exits the whole application. But in my btnDone event, I have frm1.show().
I have many forms included in one project , now I am working on one form, but I want to run it directly for testing

View 2 RepliesIm currently working on a project using VS2008. One of the features of this applications is to enable the user to change the theme either buy selecting preset ones or defining there own. The themes used in this application are not the default windows ones. I basically created my own window, titlebar etc... with the use of panels and removed teh windows form borders. So its basically coloring the controls on the form. At the moment the theme information is stored in a "txt" file and when the application loads, it applies the theme to the current form. However, there is more than 1 form within this application. I dont want to write many lines of code to apply certain design/appearance properties to every control in the form. So is there a way to apply settings to a group of controls?
EG: Make all textboxes BackColor Blue
My application also has widgets. All widgets are panels with their names prefixed as "Pnl_WIDGET". Is there also a way to set propeties to all panles with the name beginning with "Pnl_WIDGET"?

I knew that in Form2 the first focus is going to the textbox and it then opening the Form3 for the GotFocus method. How can I move the focus to other control in Form2 instead of the default focus to my textbox. Or is there other event method other than GotFocus?
I don't know what this is called or I'd search for it since I'm sure it's been discussed. How do you pick a form as the default form that opens when you start debugging? As in, I have a form I want to debug but when I click debug, a different one opens with no means of getting to the other forms.

At the moment i have too many textboxes and comboboxes for the information that needs to be provided and im losing space on the application form. I have 2 modules and 2 forms. In the module1, I initiated the form classes and also here I have my public appexit() method.In module2, I have another class(in the form of a keyboard done by code). Form2 use this class as its control.I have:

View 8 RepliesI have a form that creates an instance of a New Class. The code is simple so there is no issues with the programming.
I can step through the code on the Main Form without issues. Stepping Into moves from 1 line to the next.
I can't seem to debug the code within the class though. I set breakpoints but "stepping into" doesn't work. The code gets executed, but it doesn't step through each instruction.
I've tried changing many of the options within Tools > Debug with no luck.
I've tried deleting files from bindebug and obdebug.
Not being able to debug my programs.
I have a tab control application, each tab loads a particular user control and each of those user controls will then add other user controls that are used amongst other the user controls. For example, I have an "ucQuotes" page and an "ucInventory" page, when the specific tab is selected, the "uc****" user control is loaded on that page, and in the case of "ucQuotes" and "ucInventory" they both use a control called "ucPartNumber"; a user control consisting of a combobox, textbox, and button. I have no issues reusing the shared user controls, in this case. My problem arises with my "ucQuickPrice" control, as it is always present at the bottom of the tab control form (separate from the tabcontrol, but on the same form), and it too uses ucPartnumber.
Here's my issue, as I type into the ucPartnumber combobox, the text I type does not appear in the combobox, it appears in the textbox of the ucPartnumber control that is being used on the tabcontrol page. There are no shared instances of ucPartNumber, nor do I have this issue between typing on one tab page and the text showing on the user control of another tab page.I tried just creating the ucPartNumber controls on the ucQuickPrice control, not adding a new instance of ucPartnumber on the .Load event, and the issue persists.
The combobox(s) in question are bound programmatically with about 40,000 items, ".datasource = dataset.tablename" not to a bindingsource. Autocomplete is set to none, I added code to utilize tool tips and the basic combobox filtering functionality. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm neglecting? I'm about 95% complete with this application, and this just happened today. I made the decision, to just reuse the ucPartNumber control on the ucQuickPrice control (originallly it's size and orientation would not fit, but I added some coding to detect what parent is adding ucPartNumber and to change its appearance accordingly). Before, I made this change, I did not have this problem. And, in trying to go back to how I had things set up before the change, the problem will not go away. if the whole control within a control verbage I used is a bit confusing, let me know and I'll try to better explain what is happening. At this point, I'm going to close and reopen vbexpress, as when I started this ordeal, vb started acting weird and wanted me to save all my work, it usually does this before locking up.
I have a table in my database with 5 columns (ID1 to ID5) and just one row. I'm trying to bind a comboBox, to show ID1 through ID5 in the combobox when my form loads. I have a dataset and tableAdapter's made for this already. I just want to know how to bind a combobox to those ID values.

Whn the form loads I get the data from the db and bind to the combobox. that works fine and here is the code I use in form load to cause this to happen: [code] Now if there is not an Account Type, I have a button that will pull up a small form to allow the addition of an account type. The popup form adds the data back to the database just fine, but I am now trying to get the combobox to refresh its data. So I call a public Sub that is located in the parent form to from the popup form to accomplish this task and I have walked the code and the sub is called and appears to work correctly, but the new data never appears in the combobox. Here is my public sub that i call to try and refresh the combobox on the parent form. [code] But when I go back to the parent form, the combobox is not updated with the new account. How can i get the combobox to refresh from the database with the new data?
View 4 RepliesI have been creating a call management application and I am having a problem with something that I have spent weeks on trying to get working and nothing I try is working for me. My application is an MDI application written in VB.NET 2005 Professional, using .NET Framework 2.0. It uses a back end database using Microsoft SQL Server 2005.When the MDI application launches, a form is displayed to the end user asking for phone number (MaskedTextBox) and a partner name. The partner names are within a ComboBox.
When the end user types in the phone number and selects a value from within the ComboBox, s/he clicks on the start button. This then opens a second form. The phone number from the MaskedTextBox is to default in a second MaskedTextBox (this I am able to get working without issue.) The partner name selected from the ComboBox is to default on the second ComboBox. This is the part where I have been working on it for weeks and not able to get it to function.
The second form has many ComboBoxes, all of which pull down items from a particular table within the database. Some of them are editable and some are not. The ones that are editable are also auto complete Suggest/Append on the ListItems.I wrote a sub to handle the population of these ComboBoxes and also to handle if they are editable or not. All of this is working. However, my main issue is that I can't get the value on the second form to default to what ever was selected on the first form. I do not get any errors but regardless of what I do, the second form always stays as the first item in the list regardless.
