i am trying to add a text file in Debug folder. But when i go to project tab to add a new item, there is no option to add a new item? What part of the setting needs to be changed? Using Visual basicExpress 2010.

I have a project solution which consists of few projects including a project which for window controls. In project A, I can import the project control but for another project B, I can't import the project control and cannot access the contains for the project control. May I know why and how to check whether the project control can be imported or not? If the project control is not importable to other project, then why my project A can import that and project B is not able to import that?
View 1 RepliesIn the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like
Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.
1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?
2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?
I am constantly receiving back objects and it would be very useful be able to print out all of their properties. Is there a way in VB to get all the properties of an object and print them out (to console)?

View 14 RepliesI'm wanting to dynamically create some controls relative to controls already placed on the forum at design stage, how do I find the locations of the controls that are already placed?For example, I have a label called lblDateTime, its location is (13, 167) and its size is (65, 13).In my code, I want to place a new label below this label.I've tried to set the location and size properties of the new label using the location and size properties of lblDateTime.Size works, no problem, but the location of lblDateTime always returns as 0,0.[code]I want to set lblMessage DateTime. View 1 Repliesi'm currently trying to test a program at home that i've written for an assignment at university. At the university they have a dedicated SQL server that i can connect to fine enough but to test and debug at home i have installed MySQL 5.1.
I now have trouble connectioning to MySQL the error message i get points towards that my program is acutally looking for an instace of MS SQL server and i don't know where to change this.
I have downloaded and installed "MySQL ODBC Driver-MyODBC 3.51" which some people have suggested corrects the problem, unfortunatly this doesn't work.

I can't find any properties of the SqlConnectionStringBuilder that indicate what instance and protocalls it should use.
Is there a method to find the property names for an activeX object via an interface? The property names I am searching for are the ones used in the OBJECT / param HTML tag. I have been searching through the documentation and found the IPropertyBag interface but when I call QueryInterface I receive the E_NOINTERFACE error.

My problem is, I want to check if a property has been defined in a base class implementation and is therefore inherited in the current class.

I got a legacy solution targeting .net framework 2.0. When I open the properties - Compile tab of the VB projects in VS2008 or 2010, the VS always crashes. Other C# legacy projects are working.I am using windows 7 64 bit. (It's working in the xp mode.)

I populate the OrigVendors variable and what I want to do is find all the objects that have the ID I am looking for. Then I need to update a property on that object for only the ones found. Is this do able with an IList or do I need to use some other type of collection? I am using VB.net.
I have a icon for my application that I set in the project properties window there is a little drop down box to browse to the icon location. While debugging everything is good. Once I build the app and place it on a PC and manually start the app all is good. My app starts with windows and now every time the program goes to start I get an error that the icon cannot be found in the DocumentandSettingUSERNAME folder. So the question is do I have to place my app icon in this folder? In design I have the icon in the binDebug folder and that is were I point to in the Project properties page.

I have an small physics toy application I am developing. It works fine except the particles will not push each other away, only pull towards, I debugged that sub going through it command by command and realised the value 'H' would not change, what ever it was set to during the first pass through the sub is what it kept, the only way to change this value is to manually set it i.e 'h = 1'. Once the calculation is redone on the 'H' value it resets to what it was previously, even though the x1,y1,x2,y2 are all different, thus meaning H should be different.
I think it is me that has made a mathematical mistake somewhere, but I cannot see where it is. I need a fresh pair of eyes to look over my work. Please let me know if you find anything.

View 3 RepliesOk, the error I'm getting is "Load Report Failed" and it happens when I need to load a large number of crystal ReportDocument objects. I've searched on this, and there is a property in the registry that you can change to -1 and it allows to load more, however I'm still getting the error, just after I get about twice as many documents loaded.
The report is basically a one page document (for each client in the database with an interest charge). It displays the amount of interest charged, and other information pertaining to the charge. These documents are basically printed out and mailed to the client.
I created a "Print Preview" screen which has a CrystalReportViewer object, and an ArrayList property. The ArrayList property has an array of all reports, and there are next and back buttons to browse through each report. Once they are satisfied, they will print them all out, and I can dispose of the objects.
The solution for this, from everywhere I've seen, is to "Dispose the object after you are done with it". My problem is that I can't dispose it until they are finished with the print preview screen.
Is there a better way to go about this that won't require too much time to code (we are already over the deadline on this project) or a simple solution to get past the ReportDocument limit? Right now it is erroring on report 150., There are 180 records (as of today) that need to be loaded.

View 1 RepliesI have a DataGridView where I bind a datasource (sql query) to it. The row count is high with many columns. Trying to scroll through this DGV is painfully slow.
Does anyone know of any kinds of optimization I can do so that I can scroll faster? Like what is the DataGrid doing when you scroll? Does it repaint every screenful? Does it validate every row? It seems like it is doing something unneeded when a user scrolls.
Okay, so I wrote a few custom ItemTemplates for VS2010 that implement IWizard in VB.NET (4.0). Straight forward enough. They work during my testing, but when someone else deploys and attempts to use any of them, Visual Studio throws an incredibly generic Exception has been thrown by a target of invocation error.
Stranger still, after they open up the project properties and try again... they work. Without changing anything. Anyone have any clue what is going on? Or perhaps even just a way of getting VS to give me a more specific error? I already tried devenv.exe /log but nothing out of the ordinary was there.
Each time I create a program, if I don't change the CPU type to x86 in the Project Properties, Compile, Advanced Compile options, it doesn't work. For example, if I hit the drop down button on a combo box, there will be no data, but after switching to x86, there is data. How does changing the CPU type affect how others (such as when its being graded) view the program? If the program is not run on an x86 system, would it appear to not work then?
