how can I remove a source file from a Visual Basic 2008 express project withtout deleting it??
I tried Build Action None and I get plenty of errors concerning .Dessigner file.
Is there a macro in the Visual Studio editor to remove all comments from a VB.NET source file?

I am quite far but have came acroos a problem with my source code.
I have found the files I need to change, I have changed them to the version that I need.
I now need to read the files back into my program and delete the line I have changed as it contains project numbers that are irrelevant. Then I need to save it.
I have got as far where I have searched for lines that begin with 'Project'. I have changed this also so it's now a question of reading the files in, Deleting the line with the 'Project' number and saving them.

I don't know what this is called so I've struggled to find an answer from google but I have a vague memory of it from t'old days.I've sub-classed (* see below) about 8 framework controls, overriden some properties and added some functionality into each one.The changes I have made are identical in every case. If I make a change, I have to go through each class and apply the same change there.I was hoping there may be a keyword such as <IncludeSourcefile "common.vb> that I can put into each class.
(* note) I use the term sub-classed but I don't know if that's the correct terminology. I've also seen it used for call-backs. Is sub-classed the correct term to use?
When I go to webcrawler.com and search for something, then look at the source code, a chunk of HTML similar to this displays the search results:

But when I use WebClient.DownloadString to read the source code to a textbox, I only get this:

There's nothing. All of the webresults have been removed.How come I can view the code in my internet browser but not on my application?? I even used an InStr method to confirm that the results weren't contained in the generated code.
I have purchased and installed the EBook "Visual Basic 2008 Step By Step". The package comes with a companion CD on which are practice projects that correspond to the book. I have installed Visual Basic Express 2008 and also installed the "Practice Files" exactly as required. When I enter the VB 2008 Express IDE and attempt to load the project or solution files, the program loads and I get no error. The problem is that I get no data when this happens. The "Data Source" box displays a message that reads, "Your project currently has no data sources associated with it. Add a new data source, then data-bind items by dragging from this window onto forms or existing controls." The files did load properly for me once, but have not ever since. Does anybody have any clue as to what needs to be done here?

View 2 Repliesim trying to add a new data source to my visual studio 2010 project. As it stands my project consists of a few windows forms. I plan on making it access a database (made in access, unless this is a problem), and be able to perform pre-set queries, search/sort, and basic delete,add,edit functions. I will hopefully be later adding the function to print reports according to the database entries.However, the problem i am having is that when i go on to data sources, and click add new source, the following happens:3, it asks me which connection i will be using, i click new connection, then in the new connection dialog i choose the following : Microsoft Access Database File (OLE DB), then i browse for the database i made in the 'database file name' box, Then i delete the default username in the log in to database bit, as my database has no protection.

View 2 RepliesI have been making a order processing system for a friends company and have 99% completed it. i was going through everything double checking all the components and i put a "DotNetBar" component on the form but then deleted it as i didnt need it. i only have a trial version of the dotnetbar and do not plan on publishing the software with the component on.
so after i deleted the component from the form i built a test version of the system and installed it on a different computer but when installing an error appeared saying something along the lines of dotnetbar component cannot be found. i couldn't find any trace of the component in the page.designer.vb file.
im by far no expert in vb (this is the first real program i have developed for actual use), i cannot find any way of getting all traces of the component of the project.
I created a small application and an installer project for it. I can install and also run it, only thing htat i dont like is that during setup, it downloads .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and this takes long sometimes. I want to have it on the installation CD later.
I have seen in the installer's detected dependencies, that there is the 3.5 framework contained and it has a InstallURL property = [URL]..I am a little confused about all the Framework stuff on this site - so just 3 simple questions:
1) which file exactly do i have to download,
2) where to put it and
3) what to write into the property InstallURL then? (Maybe needed to change also other properties)?
After trawling around the net for a good few days, i decided to post something here.
Basically, i've got a problem linking a data source (Access 2007 database) to a VB 2008 project.
I've broken it down to having a problem dragging a table onto my form, when it generates the nav bar, it says "0 of {0}", and the table is empty (despite the actual database containing values)
However, this happens only at home, at college it works totally fine. The only difference that's obvious is that i'm using Windows 7 at home, and Windows XP at college.
Does anyone know how I can remove a module from a project in vb express 2008 without physically deleting the module?
View 5 RepliesI have converted a VB6 project to VB.NET and am left with a large number of inline 'warning messages' such as "UPGRADE_WARNING: Couldn't resolve default property of object varJonSkeet" that I would like to get rid of. Is there a way to do this within Visual Studio 2008? Will it be easier to remove the warning messages with regex? I would prefer to do the removals one file at a time, but it isn't a dealbreaker.

View 2 RepliesI am creating a program that allows a person to enter details about their farm, stock, and machinery in order to electronically keep track of all of the information. I have created the forms and done all the coding for the data entry, and now what I would like to do is allow the user to delete a single record from the .dat file. I am able to delete it from the LstBox (using a "Delete Entry" btn coded simply with
lstvehicles.Items.RemoveAt(lstvehicles.SelectedIndex)
(using the vehicles section for examples)), but I am unsure of how to delete it from the .dat file as well, to prevent it reloading upon data change / program reload. Also I would like to be able to have a reminder come up on the program start up that gives a reminder to (in the vehicles instance)when a vehicles rego is due, the date being associated to a date that is entered into the same lstbox data using a datetimepicker.
i just want to ask how can i save the file location or directory of a file in mysql without deleting its slashes...i tried to save it directly.. for example: the original directory is c:folderimg.jpg and when i checked it on mysql it is save as c:folderimg.jpg
View 5 RepliesI have a vb.net windows form app that I am deploying as using the visual studio deployment project. The app needs to write event logs to the application log in the event viewer. For reasons explained here I need to create the event source during the installation process. Something like this to run as part of the installer

That code needs to be run during the installer with elevated privileges. So my questions are:
How do I execute that code above as part of the installer? How do I get the installer to do the UAC prompt to allow that code to run as part of the installation?
I know that Deleting a specific line in a sequential text file is impossible but instead copy the needed lines and not copying the unneeded ones to an output file .. killing the old one and renaming the new one with the same.. I can't make this step...

I made a form that when you put your CustomerID in Text3 Box.. it access the records and make some calculations. now.. The customer will return the car.. Then his data should be deleted.. I want to know how to make that when I enter the CustomerID and press on the Command button .. It copies the other lines to a new output folder and doesn't copy these ... So it appears to be deleted using this way..
