Remove Warning Messages After Converting Vb6 Project?
Apr 16, 2009
I have converted a VB6 project to VB.NET and am left with a large number of inline 'warning messages' such as "UPGRADE_WARNING: Couldn't resolve default property of object varJonSkeet" that I would like to get rid of. Is there a way to do this within Visual Studio 2008? Will it be easier to remove the warning messages with regex? I would prefer to do the removals one file at a time, but it isn't a dealbreaker.
When i ran some applications, more ofter than not there will be some messages showing in the immediate window, such as:
A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in
I am trying to clean up my code in a project I have been working on by creating two separate modules one that disables a service and one that enables a service through the registry all of this worked fine in one big form all together but I would like to also reuse the module in some other projects, I am getting this message however "Warning1Function 'ApplicationLayerGatewayDisable' doesn't return a value on all code paths. A null reference exception could occur at run time when the result is used". [Code]. what do i need to do to get rid of these warnings ? or do I just ignore them?
I have had these two errors since I have started my project:
"A reference was created to embedded interop assembly 'stdole' because of an indirect reference to that assembly from assembly 'AxInterop.MSComctlLib'. Consider changing the 'Embed Interop Types' property on either assembly."
Using VS 2005, I create a new VB .NET class library project. The project created is automatically populated with an "Any CPU" build target. I create a COM visible object, check the register for com interop and build the project. The resultant assembly is NOT registered in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID. Instead it goes into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTWow6432NodeCLSID. I have a 64 bit machine and 64 bit OS. I would swear that with VS 2003 on such a setup, I got an entry in the 64 bit registry hive.So I went to the configuration manager and specifically created a x64 config, copying from the (only) Any CPU config. But when I build I get two BC40010 warnings. One was for System.Data.dll. So I went to the project properties/References tab and then removed "System.Data.dll" (no mscorlib entry there - the other BC40010 warning) and then ran the add command and re-added System.Data.dll thinking that since I was working on the x64 config, the IDE would bring in the correct assembly.Still I get the warning. Why doesn't the IDE understand the meaning of the "x64" configuration the wizard created? The MSDN tells me I have to fix this:
To correct this error Examine the quoted error message and take appropriate action.Compile the program again to see if the error recurs. If the error recurs, reinstall the Visual Basic compiler. If the error persists after reinstallation, gather information about the circumstances and notify Microsoft Product Support Services.
Everything was fine but suddenly appeared this error when I built a project. Warning 1 The referenced component 'stdole3' could not be found. Warning 2 The referenced component 'stdole2' could not be found. [URL]
I include 2 exes in my setup project which share dlls. In 2008 this just resulted in warnings when building but I now get an error instead indicating that the file is already included.I can fix this by excluding them but they will reappear after each build so have to be excluded again which slows the process down - example error message is below:
Error 14 Two or more objects have the same target location ('[targetdir]interop.excel.dll') C:DevelopmentPIMSPIMSSetupPIMSSetup.vdproj PIMSSetup
For a Vb.net 2008 desktop application that I was just assigned to work on a new workstation, i am getting only the following compile messages:Warning 1 Use command line option '/keyfile' or appropriate project settings instead of 'AssemblyKeyFile'
Error 20 The command "C:racEnroll.app1inDebug\Enroll.app1.exe Debug" exited with code 1. Enroll.ALtot.I know the two lines are related since I have not signed the total application. The file in the 'AssemblyKeyFile' is no longer needed for this application since it is not used. Thus, can you tell me what I can do so the assembly key file is not used? If best, what can I do to get this application tio compile with no errors?
I am following the guidelines from [URL]..Mid way through the process they have you rename your App_Code to Old_App_Code folder and compile ... at which point i had DLL's in my BIN folder and i started to repair my aspx/ascx files. e Today i find the compiled bin files missing an now all my pages are sqwaking they cannot find the numerous Public Class - Public Shared Function's ... I have verified their build action to Compile but am unable to rebuild an have them regenerate on account of project errors.Advice on how to rebuild the bin or how to properly reference a Public Shared Function? My VB code includes an Imports statement taht used to find the class in app_code.
Is there a way in Visual Studio (2008 or 2010, don't care right now which one) to show all warnings and/or messages in a project?Currently, I see all warnings and messages for all open files/documents. It would be handy if I could switch an option somewhere or something to show all the warnings and messages without needing to open everything.(I ask this as I'm developing a web site in VS that I have inherited from an ex-colleague and there's lots of messages per page regarding outdated attributes and the like)
i'm unable to debug my project that i made. i save it and everything, but it just won't playit says Warning 1 Could not find type 'WindowsApplication1.My.Resources.Resources, Time table'. Please make sure that the assembly that contains this type is referenced. If this type is a part of your development project, make sure that the project has been successfully built. C:SchoolIPTTime table, using 2 loopsTime table, using 2 loopsForm1.Designer.vb 123 0 now when i open it up and try to debug it , it comes up with an error, i even try referencing it but it does nothing ,
When I make a change to a usercontrol, I get a warning message "You must rebuild your project for the changes to {class} to show up in any open designers."Is there a studio environment setting that will prevent me from ever seeing that message again? The Error List window popping up and stealing focus is really getting on my nerves, and sometimes it doesn't want to automatically re-hide.
I am converting an old project I made to VB.NET from VB6. What would be the VB.NET equivalent of this VB6 class? I can't seem to figure it out.
Code: Public Declare Sub CopyMemory Lib "kernel32" Alias "RtlMoveMemory" (ByRef Destination As Any, ByRef Source As Any, ByVal numbytes As Long) Public strBuffer As String, strBuff As String
I want to use spy++ or Winspector But from what i Read they Dont work on windows 7 64bit Correct ? Im trying to read WM_COMMAND Messages from a App.And whenever i Select 'Log Messages' And find the windows etc.Nothing show's up. Is there a alternative ?
here I am again I have written a small class called 'Messages' that holds the user messages. The case is that I am not being able to import it. Here it is:
I have my project in which i have many .bas files and now i want to convert the project into VB.NET. The vbp files are directly converted by Visual Studio 2005 but .bas files are not being converted.
I've recently had an issue at work where I have lost my solution files to my projects, but I still have the executables that have been produced by the projects / solution (yes, my fault for not making better backups). Is there any software out there or any way of decompiling the executable back into a solution / project file??? IF yes, fantastic! If not, it just means I can cross it off as an option!
I'm looking for a tool (paid or OSS) to convert a mid-sized VB.NET project to a C# project. I've searched StackOverflow and have found a few questions/answers, but most suggest .NET Reflector or online copy/paste single file tools. Reflector doesn't seem to fit the bill as it will convert an assembly, but we're looking for a whole-sale project converter which will maintain the project including file names, comments, etc.
We're fully willing to manually address items that cannot be automatically converted, but would like to start off with a fairly comprehensive converted project. One recommendation we found is Elegance Technologies'[URL}...
After converting a Asp.net website to web application, I receive 'Type MyNameSpace.MyMaster is not defined' error on pages that use the MasterType directive.
eg In the aspx file <%@ MasterType VirtualPath="~/MyMaster.master" %> In the designer.vb file the following code is generated and has the error described above:
Public Shadows ReadOnly Property Master() As MyNameSpace.MyMaster Get Return CType(MyBase.Master, MyNameSpace.MyMaster) End Get End Property
I have a vb 6 project developed with VB6.0 on XP. I've installed Visual Studio (Professional Edition)2008 on a Windows 7 box. When I tried to convert the vb 6 project (.vbp file) using VB 2008's wizard, I got error messages that the "upgrade failed" because it could not "load the referenced components: msadodc.ocx (6.0.0) and msde.dll It is recommended you install VB6.0 with all referenced components......"I have the VB6.0 CD's and tried to install it on the Win7.0 box and got the message that VB6.0 was incompatible ?
I am trying to convert a VB.NET project to C#. I am conveting all the forms and classes as required, but I don't know where I need to write the events from ApplicationEvents.vb (I believe its autoGenerated from Properties) Here is the code in my ApplicationEvent.vb file:
I have found this amazing control that does exactly what I need, only problem, its in C#. Does anyone know of a VB version of this code? I've tried using converters, but all of them have failed in successfully converting the project. Maybe one of you guys knows how to convert it?
I want to migrate vb.net project onto linux platform using mono, but I am getting one problem system.dllnotfound exception: kernel32.I like to ask ,when does visual basic add this kernel32 dll. can I remove this kernel32 dll from my project?
I have been making a order processing system for a friends company and have 99% completed it. i was going through everything double checking all the components and i put a "DotNetBar" component on the form but then deleted it as i didnt need it. i only have a trial version of the dotnetbar and do not plan on publishing the software with the component on.
so after i deleted the component from the form i built a test version of the system and installed it on a different computer but when installing an error appeared saying something along the lines of dotnetbar component cannot be found. i couldn't find any trace of the component in the page.designer.vb file.
im by far no expert in vb (this is the first real program i have developed for actual use), i cannot find any way of getting all traces of the component of the project.
