Suppressing "You Must Rebuild Your Project..." Warning Message?

Aug 6, 2009

When I make a change to a usercontrol, I get a warning message "You must rebuild your project for the changes to {class} to show up in any open designers."Is there a studio environment setting that will prevent me from ever seeing that message again? The Error List window popping up and stealing focus is really getting on my nerves, and sometimes it doesn't want to automatically re-hide.

I recently inherited a VB project for some maintenance. I've been making changes and testing in VS2008 using F5. It's been going well.I did a rebuild all and now it won't run. It displays a dialog saying something like "MSACAL.dll or some of its dependencies are missing." Updated Table Loses Saved Data After Project Rebuild

Mar 17, 2009

since I still use VB6 and the code is in VB8, I can't find the solution. The sub below is executed in a button's click event, and is supposed to save data to his database. It seems to work fine : you can add persons (in a separate form), and see them appear in the datagrid. You can stop the program, go back to the VB editor, and run it again (without rebuild), and the previously added persons will still be visible in the datagrid. But...If you add some persons, then go to the editor and force a rebuild (for example by adding more code), and than run the code again, the the previously added persons are gone (nomore visible in datagrid)! To me, it seems that the problem is to effectively update the database. I have searched on the internet about this topic, and I read that you must "set" the UpdateCommand.

How To Ignore The Warning Message

I have set up my form using with the languages and I have store the texts in the resource. I have debug the project and everything seen to be fine. I found that there is a folder in the project bin folder. The folder was called zh-chs. I have changed the name from roject1.resources.dll to testdll.dll and moved to the bin folder. I have added reference in my project and I have deleted the zh-chs folder. Suddenly, I have found a warning sage.

IDE :: Warning BC40010 In VS 2005 Project

Oct 8, 2009

Using VS 2005, I create a new VB .NET class library project. The project created is automatically populated with an "Any CPU" build target. I create a COM visible object, check the register for com interop and build the project. The resultant assembly is NOT registered in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID. Instead it goes into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTWow6432NodeCLSID. I have a 64 bit machine and 64 bit OS. I would swear that with VS 2003 on such a setup, I got an entry in the 64 bit registry hive.So I went to the configuration manager and specifically created a x64 config, copying from the (only) Any CPU config. But when I build I get two BC40010 warnings. One was for System.Data.dll. So I went to the project properties/References tab and then removed "System.Data.dll" (no mscorlib entry there - the other BC40010 warning) and then ran the add command and re-added System.Data.dll thinking that since I was working on the x64 config, the IDE would bring in the correct assembly.Still I get the warning. Why doesn't the IDE understand the meaning of the "x64" configuration the wizard created? The MSDN tells me I have to fix this:

To correct this error Examine the quoted error message and take appropriate action.Compile the program again to see if the error recurs. If the error recurs, reinstall the Visual Basic compiler. If the error persists after reinstallation, gather information about the circumstances and notify Microsoft Product Support Services.

Remove Warning Messages After Converting Vb6 Project?

Apr 16, 2009

I have converted a VB6 project to VB.NET and am left with a large number of inline 'warning messages' such as "UPGRADE_WARNING: Couldn't resolve default property of object varJonSkeet" that I would like to get rid of. Is there a way to do this within Visual Studio 2008? Will it be easier to remove the warning messages with regex? I would prefer to do the removals one file at a time, but it isn't a dealbreaker.

IDE :: Setup Project Now Gives Error If The Same File Included Twice Opposed To Warning?

Oct 23, 2009

I include 2 exes in my setup project which share dlls. In 2008 this just resulted in warnings when building but I now get an error instead indicating that the file is already included.I can fix this by excluding them but they will reappear after each build so have to be excluded again which slows the process down - example error message is below:

Error 14 Two or more objects have the same target location ('[targetdir]interop.excel.dll') C:DevelopmentPIMSPIMSSetupPIMSSetup.vdproj PIMSSetup

Warning 1 Use Command Line Option '/keyfile' Or Appropriate Project Settings Instead Of 'AssemblyKeyFile'

Jul 11, 2011

For a Vb.net 2008 desktop application that I was just assigned to work on a new workstation, i am getting only the following compile messages:Warning 1 Use command line option '/keyfile' or appropriate project settings instead of 'AssemblyKeyFile'

Error 20 The command "C:racEnroll.app1inDebug\Enroll.app1.exe Debug" exited with code 1. Enroll.ALtot.I know the two lines are related since I have not signed the total application. The file in the 'AssemblyKeyFile' is no longer needed for this application since it is not used. Thus, can you tell me what I can do so the assembly key file is not used? If best, what can I do to get this application tio compile with no errors?

IDE :: What Is "The Target "Rebuild" Does Not Exist In The Project"

Jul 6, 2009

When I am building a VB.NET project, it shows me this error:"The target "Rebuild" does not exist in the project.". I have never come across such problem. By the way, since I'm moving some projects from VS2008 to VS2010, I found in this project many references shows "System can't find the reference specifiled". In a mixed C++/CLI project, when I'm trying to add a reference, VS even shows a dialog telling that "Reference *** was not found on the reference search path.

Suppressing Obsolete Warnings In .Net?

May 13, 2009

I have VB.Net code in VS 2008 using an obsolete method, and would like to suppress the warning.Unfortunately, following the recommendation is not a good solution, because it requires using a different class, which works differently, in important ways.I'm trying to suppress the warning using System.Diagnostics.CodeAnalysis.SuppressMessage, but I don't know what to write as the parameters for the attribute, and can't find any relevant reference.

I should also say that, right-clicking on the error in the error list I don't have any 'Suppress Message' option.

Suppressing Event Handling When Busy In .net?

Feb 24, 2012

I have a form with several buttons on it and when the user presses one of the buttons it begins a lengthy process (takes up to several seconds). What I want to happen is that any subsequent button presses that occur on any other button on the form are ignored until the process is complete from the initial button press. What actually happens is that subsequent button presses go into a queue and are executed in sequence as the processes for each complete. What I mean is, if each button executes a function that takes 2 seconds and I hit 5 buttons very quickly (in less than 2 seconds say) it leads to a sequence of events that takes 10 seconds.... what I want to happen is for it to lead to only the FIRST button press occurring and taking the 2 seconds that it's activated function takes.

I am writing software that interfaces with hardware through a USB to UART converter and am using virtual COM ports and timing is critical. I want something to occur ONLY when I press a button, not seconds later after being queued up and waiting for a previous operation to finish.

Visual Studio - Net Project Disappear Instead Of Giving An Error Message?

Jun 5, 2012

Why does my VB.Net Project disappear instead of giving an error message? This only started happening recently, but when debugging with Visual Studios instead of getting errors, the program just closes as though the stop button was pressed. This doesn't happen for all error types but it consistently happens if there is some sort of casting error. This is an overly simplified example, but the lines below would cause a program to vanish as soon as they run. Dim i As Integer i = "A" One other interesting part of this is that if that was in a try catch block the error would be caught instead of closing the program.I'm in an office setting so I've been able to test a number of configurations and have found that this problem only affects Windows XP PCs, but not Windows 7. And it consistently happens with Visual Studios 2010 Professional and Ultimate, Visual Studios 2008. Besides that we apparently we all need Windows 7.

Invalid Path To Database Error Message After Deploying Project Created In Program2010

Jul 6, 2011

Is there any literature which guides a user through the steps of deploying a vb project created with VS 2010 Professional and incorporating SQL 2008RE Database?

I have a VB project which incorporates 2 databases - 1 Access Db and 1 SQL Db. The project compiles and runs beautifully. However, after adding the databases in the project as existing items and deploying, the project opens/runs, but when I try to login the application I keep getting an error message telling me that the path to the .mdb (Access) database is not a valid path. I don't have a clue what else to do.

I guess I could just rebuild the entire .dll in the new version, but was hoping not to have to do that.
