Warning 1 Use Command Line Option '/keyfile' Or Appropriate Project Settings Instead Of 'AssemblyKeyFile'

Jul 11, 2011

For a Vb.net 2008 desktop application that I was just assigned to work on a new workstation, i am getting only the following compile messages:Warning 1 Use command line option '/keyfile' or appropriate project settings instead of 'AssemblyKeyFile'

Error 20 The command "C:racEnroll.app1inDebug\Enroll.app1.exe Debug" exited with code 1. Enroll.ALtot.I know the two lines are related since I have not signed the total application. The file in the 'AssemblyKeyFile' is no longer needed for this application since it is not used. Thus, can you tell me what I can do so the assembly key file is not used? If best, what can I do to get this application tio compile with no errors?

Set Option Explicit And Option Strict On A Project / Solution Level?

Send A Command To A Command Line And Then Submit The Command?

Apr 30, 2010

First let me say that I am not sure whether or not this should go in this section or the API section, and if it needs to be moved I apologize. My issue is fairly straight forward, but for some reason I cannot get it to work.

I am trying to send a command to a command line and then submit the command. I have been trying without success to get this to work in v2008 Express and v2010 Express, Here is the code I am trying to us:

IDE :: Warning BC40010 In VS 2005 Project

Oct 8, 2009

Using VS 2005, I create a new VB .NET class library project. The project created is automatically populated with an "Any CPU" build target. I create a COM visible object, check the register for com interop and build the project. The resultant assembly is NOT registered in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID. Instead it goes into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTWow6432NodeCLSID. I have a 64 bit machine and 64 bit OS. I would swear that with VS 2003 on such a setup, I got an entry in the 64 bit registry hive.So I went to the configuration manager and specifically created a x64 config, copying from the (only) Any CPU config. But when I build I get two BC40010 warnings. One was for System.Data.dll. So I went to the project properties/References tab and then removed "System.Data.dll" (no mscorlib entry there - the other BC40010 warning) and then ran the add command and re-added System.Data.dll thinking that since I was working on the x64 config, the IDE would bring in the correct assembly.Still I get the warning. Why doesn't the IDE understand the meaning of the "x64" configuration the wizard created? The MSDN tells me I have to fix this:

To correct this error Examine the quoted error message and take appropriate action.Compile the program again to see if the error recurs. If the error recurs, reinstall the Visual Basic compiler. If the error persists after reinstallation, gather information about the circumstances and notify Microsoft Product Support Services.

Get The Green Squiqly Line Warning At The End Of The Function?

May 1, 2012

In the following function I get the green squiqly line warning at the end of the function that when you hover the mouse over it, it reads: "Function 'AllQuotesDal' doesn't return a value on all code paths. A null reference exception could occur at run time when the result is used.". I've tried and tried to make it correct and safe but it won't compile the way I've tried playing around with the variable 'reader'. It seems to need to be the way I have it but I want that warning to go away.

Code:
Public Function AllQuotesDal() As OleDb.OleDbDataReader
Try
Dim connection As OleDb.OleDbConnection = NewConnection()

Remove Warning Messages After Converting Vb6 Project?

Apr 16, 2009

I have converted a VB6 project to VB.NET and am left with a large number of inline 'warning messages' such as "UPGRADE_WARNING: Couldn't resolve default property of object varJonSkeet" that I would like to get rid of. Is there a way to do this within Visual Studio 2008? Will it be easier to remove the warning messages with regex? I would prefer to do the removals one file at a time, but it isn't a dealbreaker.

Command Line Switches - Keeping Command Window Open?

Feb 24, 2010

I am using the following code to run defrag and to analyze if the C: drive requires defragmentation:

Dim analyze As Process = System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("C:WindowsSystem32defrag.exe", "C: /a /h /u /v")

This process runs through analyzing, runs it in normal mode & prints the progress to the command window.

My problem is that as soon as the process is complete the command window closes. I need it to stay open so that I can read the results.

Command Line Program To End Before Moving Onto The Next Command In Loop?

Feb 4, 2011

I am using a CheckedListBox that is populated with Filenames (full path, i.e. C:TestTest.jpg)When I have the files that I want in the CheckedListBox I wish to click a Start Button which will process the list one at a time using an exe program that runs on the Command Line. There are arguments that need to pass to the command line as well as the file location in order for the program to process.I currently have it working but the issue is the loop finishes quickly and it is left up to the CMD.exe to finish the process. What I would like is for the LOOP to wait until each file completes processing before passing the command for the next file in the CheckedListBox.There some reasons I wish for it to work this way.

1) I would like to have a button that can Pause/Restart the Loop.

2) I would like to have a button that can Stop the Loop so the whole process can end.

3) I would like to have the Loop remove each file one by one from the CheckedListBox after it has been processed.

4) I would like to display a Message once all the files have been processed.

5) And if it were possible I would like to report the status either by text or a progress bar showing where it is at in the process.

6) And the ability to add some error handling if possible.

Since the Loop finishes so quickly as it just passes the command to the command line using the & as a seperator it is the command line that is handling the rest of the process. Because of this there is not control over it in the GUI.The code I am using allows the Command Line text to display in the Form so it won't open up a seperate window to run CMD.exe. This is the desired affect as I would like everything to appear to run from within the Form itself.

IDE :: Setup Project Now Gives Error If The Same File Included Twice Opposed To Warning?

Oct 23, 2009

I include 2 exes in my setup project which share dlls. In 2008 this just resulted in warnings when building but I now get an error instead indicating that the file is already included.I can fix this by excluding them but they will reappear after each build so have to be excluded again which slows the process down - example error message is below:

Error 14 Two or more objects have the same target location ('[targetdir]interop.excel.dll') C:DevelopmentPIMSPIMSSetupPIMSSetup.vdproj PIMSSetup

.NET - Pass Command On Command Line?

May 29, 2012

I am struggling to pass a parameter to a VB.NET application via a Windows scheduled task. It works perfectly in Visual Studio (passing a command line arguement via project properties). If I am calling a VB6 application, then I will supply the following parameters and it works:

Run: c:progra~1TestTest.exe TestParameter Start In: c:progra~1Test However, if I supply the same parameters in VB.NET, the program throws an exception when it tries to create an instance of a class in the Form.Load: System.NullReferenceException cannot create instance of object.

I have also tried the following:Run: c:program filesTestTest.exe TestParameter Start In: "c:program filesTest" This time the status of the scheduled task changes to "cannot start".What is the correct way to specify command line parameters in a scheduled task for a VB.NET program?UPDATE I found the solution on this web page:[URL}.. I am still confused as to why the program would not create an instance of an object when I used the 8 bit paths (i.e. progra~1)

IDE :: Set As StartUp Project Menu Option Does Not Exist

Apr 2, 2009

I am learning Visual Basic Express 2008. When I follow step #5 below, the option Set as StartUp Project does not exist. How I can accomplish this. To create a test project for your class. Open the Persons project that you created in the previous lesson. If you did not save it, you will first have to go back to the previous lesson, Adding Methods to a Class, and complete the procedures.

On the File menu, point to Add, and then click New Project.
On the Templates pane in the New Project dialog box, click Windows Forms Application.
In the Name box, type PersonsTest and then click OK.
A new Windows Forms project is added to Solution Explorer, and a new form appears.

In Solution Explorer, select the PersonsTest project, and then on the Project menu, click Set as StartUp Project. In the Solution Explorer, select the PersonsTest project, and then on the Project menu, click Add Reference. The Add Reference dialog box appears.

Click the Projects tab, and then select Persons and click OK.
Double-click the form to open the Code Editor, and then enter the following declaration just under the line Public Class Form1.
