How do you validate input when you are dealing with doubles. I have successfully gotten the message box to pop up when the user enters a number in a text field, but what if I have a text box that requests a number from the user and they enter text? This is the code, the even for btnDisplayFull works fine, but not btnDisplayRqst: [code]
im calculating fare amount from 2 masktextbox mtxA and mtxB, i use the format 0000.00 ,, i was able to convert all prompt char values from mtxA and turned them into really zero but however it doesnt do the same on mtxb, though ive used similar code.. so my flow should be: whatever i values i put on mtxA.. on its textchange, its current value should be also put to mtxB plus an additional of 200.00
as an example : if i put on mtxA = 0030.00 mtxB = 0230.00 should be the display
but what is shows on me is mtxB = 2300.00 and also if i save it on the database .00 is not added,.....im tired fixing this so i try to use textbox instead of maskdtextbox, what i did is put lots of conditions and function on keypress to have the same format 0000.00 but i failed because everything on my code mess up whenever the user tried to edit the text according to textbox current position..check textbox.text current length from 0 to before the cursor location...but i dont know what code i should use to get the length..
I need to create a function which have either 1 parameter with a string as data type or 2 parameters with double as data type.Something like the substring method.
How can i get the same output as the VB results. And i have tired it ! Type conversions, math functions, everything i can think of to get the same VB6 output !
I have a program that calculates commission, but if the commission is nothing then I do not want it to show a zero commission. I want a message box to show a message that there is no commission earned.
I have four textboxes, I want textbox1 to accept only char data. I want textbox2 to accept only numeric data. I want textbox3 to accept only alphanumeric data. I want textbox4 to accept only bolean data.
Im trying to improve some apps ive written, the first is a console app... Im trying to get it so that i wont get an invalidcastexception if the user inputs a string, when the variable is type "Double"
I need some help with the input validation of my application. Attached is the code that I have written as well as a screenshot of the front end. I specifically need input validation to verify that the user selected input for cbLengthOfStay is a number between 1-10 as well as input validation to verify the user input for txtMedication, txtSurgicalCharges, txtLabFees and txtRehabilitation is a positive numerical number. Please feel free to critique my attached code. [Code]
The value of d3 is not coming to 301006308001004.5 but it is getting rounded off. Is there a way to fix this. When I use currency data type, the issue looks solved. However currency cannot hold a larger decimal number. the value of d2 can have more decimal value like 0.343324532553 .
integer 51 is the result of Math.Round(mX ) where mX = 50.8026755852843how do I ensure that an integer value is created but doesn't round up but rather rounds down.the application is a location coordinate system begin displayed and if the mouse pointer hovers over a point just slightly to the right of the vertical x grid line as determined by a MouseEventArg, I want the resultant integer value to be 50 if the Mouse
I'm using the Double data type in a subroutine and it's giving inaccurate results. Basically I've got:
Dim Temp as Double Dim A,B as Single Dim C as Byte Temp=A*B/C
When A=996 B=4 and C=1.6 Temp should be 2490 but that's not the case. I get something like 2489.9999628961091. This later screws up another calculation that's based on getting the value and remainder.Whatever the case I set the Temp variable to Single and it works. What I want to know is WHY does this happen? I'm a bit confused.
Ok, I'm half convinced that this is such a simple question that no one has ever needed to ask it in the history of google.I have a double datatype, which contains a currency value. This is returned by an API, so I can't just change it to decimal. The variable gets populated with this: 5.37979542325911E-315, which I took to mean that the current balance was $5.3797. This is incorrect!
So my question to you guys is: How do I convert a double to a data type I can use for currency?
Note: Cdec() and other casting to decimals hasn't workd. It's set the decimal to 0D.
how to do different things and right now I'm building a simple program to where the user inputs thier First and last name into two different text boxes and when they click on a button it tells them what they have entered.I'm trying to make sure that they have entered letters only in each text box and if they don't I want it to display a message box that says they need to enter letters only. The problem I am having is if they enter a number in both text boxes then that is the only way that it will display the error message box. Here is my code for the data validation for the user input.[code]
How do I determin if a user has given me what I am asking for in terms of data type.
Example if my prompt to the user say "Give me a number of double data type"
How can I tell that the user entered a double xx.yy?
Or if I am testing for integers and I get user input ABC.GH?
I know about CDbl and CInt and CStr but these don't work unless data is provided. Also how do you test if the conversion took place? Also how do you differencate between 12.00 being integer?
I am currently using double data types. The problem I am encountering is that sometimes the user will have to input a value of 0 in the required text box and this creates an error. My question is what data type will allow the user to input 0 and allow the mathematical functions to work properly. Decimals maybe?
I have a form set up where users can enter their booking for a room at my college. I want to validate the user input to avoid SQL injection (my program uses a MS Access database) and also stop numbers and synbols in their name, etc.I can do the validation fine, but there is to be a lot of validation and then methods executed only if all validation tests come back as true. I did have something like this:
If txtName.Text = "" Then frmBookErr.SetError(txtName, "Name field cannot be left blank.") fail = 1 Else
[code]....
And then check the fail variable, but it obviously gets overridden later in the form if one of the validation tests come back as true.
There are a number of textboxes I would like to validate. I first set up the key press events to only allow key entry's of characters which I feel are valid for this location (i.e. numbers and "." for dollar amounts). But in addition to this I would also like to ensure that the user entered something valid using an input mask. This may be a simple question but I couldn't seem to find the answer to it. If I have a input mask of ###.## and the user enters something like 4321.23, would this throw an error and if so, how should I set up my mask large enough so the user is able to enter large amounts.
I am using two textBox's. The first to enter the data. The second to convert to answer the program complies with no error, the debugger cannot convert data type from string to double.
[Code]....
why does the program not convert the textbox txtFahrenheit from string to double?
I want to use explicit conversion (CType function in VB.NET) to convert the variable d from double type to integer type and store the result as 132.
Imports System.Console Module Module1
Sub Main()
[CODE]...
This is my code. But Visual Basic tells me an error: Error1Type 'i' is not defined.C:\Users\mihaispr\Desktop\Conversie explicita\Conversie explicita\Module1.vb1922Conversie explicita
When I read a value from text box I want to make sure user has entered a number(int/float/double etc.) not a string. Is there any function to check it? otherwise how do i validate it.
I am creating a form for our new intranet and I need to have validation on a number of the fields. When I use the Visual Studio textbox it doesn't render the input out as I would have hoped.t adds large amounts of text to the value and name and most importantly it doesn'tclose the input with a forward slash - How do I get the text boxes to add this trailing forward slash and produce validating XHTML input fields?
I have one textbox basically the user is going to enter in a 9 digit number or letters. From there I want to have a buttonclick event that validates this against 2 columns in a MSSQL Database. First to check if the number exists, next to check if it is active or inactive.
There are about 27000 rows of numbers so my main question is what is the best approach to handling something like this.
Should I create a view and validate in the click event. Should I create a stored procedure in sql that takes an input parameter and call it in the click event.
I was also reading about storing the information in a dataset however with that many records i am assuming that is going to be a slow process.
The system we have in place at work for call centre agents to input telephone numbers doesn't validate their input, so, in a lot of cases, we have junk data being entered (0000000000 as a phone number generally). I've been taked with fixing this, but I'm not sure how to stop the agents entering junk like this.
You have failed to give me "Staring Point".If you don't give me "Staring Point" the program will terminate.I'd like to terminate the entire program based on dialogresult. Do I just kill my main form or is there a line I can put in there to exit program?
I have text box where scores are to input between 0 and 100, they user also needs the option to enter a text word such as bye or BYE. I having problems getting the validation to work here is what i have so far please let me know what I'm doing wrong.
I have code that will validate whether or not the input is numerical. After that's passed validation, I need to check and see if that value is greater than another.
Here's the code for the numerical validation (it works) If Decimal.TryParse(EndOdometerTextBox.Text, EndOdometerDecimal) Then ErrorProvider1.Clear() Else ErrorProvider1.SetError(EndOdometerTextBox, _ "Please enter a numeric value.") EndOdometerTextBox.SelectAll() e.Cancel = True
Now, I need to verify that the input for this is greater than another decimal (BeginOdometerDecimal). How can I do this? Everything I've tried fails completely (ignored) or messes up the fist validation.
I updated an MS Access file with data and it showed the data is there. When I tried to retrieve I get this message " Conversion from type DBNULL to type Double is not valid" Below is the code to retrieve.
I am new to visual basic. Below is my Private Sub todayMonth_Validating(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles todayMonth.Validating Dim tb As TextBox = DirectCast(sender, TextBox) If Convert.ToInt32(tb.Text) >= 1 And Convert.ToInt32(tb.Text) <= 12 Then tb.Tag = True [Code] .....
Actually, I wanted to validate the todayMonth textbox just to input number between 1 to 12. The problem comes out when I do this procedure : Lets say I input an interger 11 and it passes the validation and proceed to another textbox. Then I click back to the todayMonth textbox, it shows this error : "Conversion from string "" to type 'Integer' is not valid." I don't know why my value in the textbox is "null" or empty . I still saw the value 11 on the textbox.
