how to do different things and right now I'm building a simple program to where the user inputs thier First and last name into two different text boxes and when they click on a button it tells them what they have entered.I'm trying to make sure that they have entered letters only in each text box and if they don't I want it to display a message box that says they need to enter letters only.The problem I am having is if they enter a number in both text boxes then that is the only way that it will display the error message box. I need some help with the input validation of my application. Attached is the code that I have written as well as a screenshot of the front end. I specifically need input validation to verify that the user selected input for cbLengthOfStay is a number between 1-10 as well as input validation to verify the user input for txtMedication, txtSurgicalCharges, txtLabFees and txtRehabilitation is a positive numerical number. I'm trying to write vb code to verify a password input by a user to known table passwords in access database. The form has a drop down combo box that has userID's that are selectable. I'm trying to get the index number out of the combo box selection and use that to look up what the password should be. With that information i can then compare the stored password with the password typed into the text box below the combo box. All of the examples i've found that direct me show the code in regular Visual Basic. I'm using Visual Basic 2010 with the .net architecture.

How do I determin if a user has given me what I am asking for in terms of data type.
Example if my prompt to the user say "Give me a number of double data type"
How can I tell that the user entered a double xx.yy?
Or if I am testing for integers and I get user input ABC.GH?
I know about CDbl and CInt and CStr but these don't work unless data is provided. Also how do you test if the conversion took place? Also how do you differencate between 12.00 being integer?

How do you validate input when you are dealing with doubles. I have successfully gotten the message box to pop up when the user enters a number in a text field, but what if I have a text box that requests a number from the user and they enter text? I am currently using double data types. The problem I am encountering is that sometimes the user will have to input a value of 0 in the required text box and this creates an error. My question is what data type will allow the user to input 0 and allow the mathematical functions to work properly. Decimals maybe?

How to sign or verify any type of file's (.txt, .dat, .doc, .jpg etc etc) in VB 6 or VB.net? I want to digitally sign any kind of file's (.txt, .dat, .doc, .jpg etc...) to verify that it isnt modified when I send the file to another person or my friend who is using same program which I have used to sign. I wish that if I can use random generator or give a password while signing the file, so that only who is using my program can see or read the file I sent across to other person.

I need something tje user can type in data to such a parts QTY cost etc. There are no predefined parts list so the user can enter any part name/Number and there is no limit to amount of parts that can be entered.
Does anyone have any idea what might be useful. It was thinks of a listview bu i can't see that you can type into that. I cant use comboboxs because there are no predefined list and i know there is some way to generate text at runtime (i think) but i don't know how to do it and i would prefer a clearer approach.

I want to limit and verify the textboxes data which enter by the user i want to make a class in which i pass the textfield and the methods in that class return boolean value . First method check only numbers with decimal point. second method check only A to Z or a to z with some specify charecters. In java it is very easy by the parse INt methods or use class.

I cannot figure out how to incorporate the number of days into the input box then get it to loop and count the number of times the User inputs in the number of days. Then I have to incorporate it into the equation to get the total distance D = MPH * Hours. What I have right now wil not count up the number of days and locks up after I input one number and will not add anything to the listbox. Because I also have to make sure that they cant add nonnumaric values and the number of hours per day cannot exceed 20. I have put things in and taken them out but it has been 2 days and I am lost now

I've been working on some code to add together input from an input box to make a string and display it in a message box. I've put the code in a loop so that it will add all input into the string until nothing is entered in the input box.

im calculating fare amount from 2 masktextbox mtxA and mtxB, i use the format 0000.00 ,, i was able to convert all prompt char values from mtxA and turned them into really zero but however it doesnt do the same on mtxb, though ive used similar code.. so my flow should be: whatever i values i put on mtxA.. on its textchange,its current value should be also put to mtxB plus an additional of 200.00
as an example : if i put on mtxA = 0030.00
mtxB = 0230.00 should be the display
but what is shows on me is mtxB = 2300.00 and also if i save it on the database .00 is not added,.....im tired fixing this so i try to use textbox instead of maskdtextbox, what i did is put lots of conditions and function on keypress to have the same format 0000.00 but i failed because everything on my code mess up whenever the user tried to edit the text according to textbox current position..check textbox.text current length from 0 to before the cursor location...but i dont know what code i should use to get the length..
