Screen Blanks After 1 Min Of Processing (of Excel File) / Refresh Or Freeze Screen To Avoid Blank Screen?

Jun 29, 2011

BTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps.Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?

Is there a way to determine is any control at all on a form has gotten focus? I know you can individually determine if a single control has focus or has been clicked, etc. but is there an event that can tell you that some/any control has been clicked?

i.e.
Private Sub myFrm_Magic(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.SomethingClicked
Msgbox(Me.ActiveControl.Name)

Displaying Form With WMP Control On Another Screen?

Jun 11, 2011

I am writing a program to control light and sound for a show I'm working on.
The program has buttons and stuff controlling music and sound effects but I am at a loss as to how to get the video part to work.

My computer is hooked up to a projector in extended desktop mode. (I can't change that, otherwise my control panel would show up on the big screen.

I need the video to display on Screen 2 (the projector), so I made a form and used this code:

Dim screen As Screen
screen = screen.AllScreens(1) 'the array is 0 based
Form2.StartPosition = FormStartPosition.Manual
Form2.Location = screen.Bounds.Location + New Point(0, 0)
Form2.ShowDialog()

to display it when I press a button. This worked fine, I set form2's border to none and fullscreened it, tested again, no probs. My problem arose when I tried to add a WMP ActiveX control. I ran the program, pressed the button, and... form2 (along with WMP) appeared on my laptop display. I desperately need this by tomorrow. If no solution is available, is there an alternative to WMP?

Picturebox Control Location On Screen?

Dec 17, 2009

I have a picturebox (pbRows) that I want to always be aligned with the right side of the screen. The form may be wider than this (I have a horizontal scrollbar), but the picturebox always needs to be along the right edge of the screen. Currently I have this code snippet in the form_load subroutine:

Dim rowsX As New Integer rowsX = Screen.PrimaryScreen.Bounds.Width - pbRows.Width pbRows.Location = New Point(rowsX, 25) However, the picturebox is aligned with the right edge of the form (initially hidden off the screen). Am I missing something obvious?

Screen Designer - Changing Size Of Control?

Jul 22, 2009

I am working on a application which is basically a screen designer. I have implemented the form designing capabilities using IDesignerHost and other interfaces. In my application user can pick a component from toolbox and drop it on the designer screen and can configure the properties from property window. I have my own set of properties which gets populated from database. Screen designer is working fine but the problem occurs when user changes some properties from property window. Say user changes property 'Width' then I change the width of the selected control in designer but the problem is SelectionOverlay shows the old size. When I select another control and select old control again, SelectionOverlay(resize handlers which appears around the control) shows properly. How can I tell the SelectionOverlay that the size of the control is changed.

Disable Ctrl Keys And Print Screen In Web Browser Control?

Apr 16, 2009

I have created my own web browser by dragging the web browser control into a form using Visual Basic 2008 in order to host my ASP.Net pages. However, it is a requirement of the project I am working that users should not be able to use hot keys, especially print screen, ctrl P, ctrl C, and ctrl V. There are no other controls on my form, so how can stop users using these keys, but only in this browser? Further, my asp.net page uses an iframe tag to show a word document, and again, I need to stop them from copying and pasting from the word document into another word document through the browser. Can I stop them in my browser in app stack?

Use TableLayoutPanel Control To Expand Label Text For LCD TV Screen Size?

Jan 25, 2011

I'm using VB.net 2005 to code an application that will be a used as a "digital sign" to report factory production levels and will be displayed on a 55 inch wide screen LCD TV/display. So I am putting my controls in a TableLayoutPanel control so they will expand to use the whole TV screen and can be view from a distance. (I have my FormBorderStyle = None and WindowState = Maximized.) My Form is set to AutoSize = True and AutoSizeMode = GrowOnly. My TableLayoutPanel AutoSize = True, AutoSizeMode = GrowOnly, and Dock = Fill. I'm using Label controls to display the text on the display and they are set to AutoSize = False and Dock = Fill. When I run the app. the Gauge control expands on my 19" monitor like it should, but none of the Label Text expand. How do I get the Labels to enlarge / Fill there area? Is that not possible?

Control Display Of Several On-screen Elements Depending On A Single Value Input By A User

Aug 3, 2009

I am new to VB and seeking to create a visual basic program which controls the display of several on-screen elements depending on a single value input by a user. The user can enter anyone of 2500 values and depending on the value entered, five different display elements on the screen will change color or text. The program's response to a given input value never changes, in other words if the user enters 279, the five different display items will always be the same. However, there is no real pattern to the display items that would allow for programming an anticipated response to the input value.

My thinking is to create a large and ponderous "lookup table" in visual basic - I am assuming this an be done but perhaps there is a different or better method. I plan on creating the lookup file in Excel but was assuming I'd need to export it to something that VB could easily read. Any suggestions on the best way to do this? Does the lookup table reside as a separate .txt files someplace or something like that? [Code]

.net - Taking Photo Of Screen - Take A Picture Of The Entire Screen, Not Just The Focused Window?

Jul 6, 2011

Currently I have the following VB.NET code to make a screenshot of my desktop, but it only takes a picture of the active screen:

Public Function SaveScreen(ByVal theFile As String) As Boolean
Try
SendKeys.Send("%{PRTSC}")[code].....

The following code is how I execute the above function, if it makes any difference, which I don't think it does:

SaveScreen("C:Lexer_tracescreen.png")

Now, I need to be able to take a picture of the entire screen, not just the focused window.

Make A Screen Recorder (not Screen Capture) Program

Aug 20, 2010

I wanted to make a screen recorder (not screen capture) program, but I am not entirely sure how to get it started. I have seen many videos and things on how to make one, but all of these just take multiple pictures and then don't compile them into a movie file, and I don't want to take many pictures (unless that is the only way possible.) I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express and I have looked at the Windows Media Encoder, but I can't seem to figure out how to use/implement it (yes, I have downloaded and installed it.) Maybe I can use some kind of ActiveX control?
