View 3 RepliesIm not too sure if this is the correct place for this question, but I couldn't find anywhere else..Heres what i want to do. I have two tables in an Access DB. TableA and TableB. Each Table has only one column called Picture, and that column is filled with the names of pictures (picture1, picture2, picture3, etc)
Thing is, that The pictures in TableA have equivalent pictures in TableB. They are not named the same, but the pictures themselves are the same i.e.: TableA Picture1 = TableB Picture3, TableA Picture2 = TableB Picture5.
What i Would like to create is a form that has two datagrids, or Listboxes populated with the data from each table. One for TableA, One for TableB. When the User selects a picture from one of these controls, The other control must show which picture the selected one corresponds to (if i select TableA Picture1, TableB Picture3 becomes selected showing that they match)
I think that most of the work will be at the actual DB, somehow linking each and every field, maybe a one to one link between fields/cells in the DB, then in VB calling that one record that was clicked on, seeing what relation it has to the other table,

experience on how to create an engine using C# (VB.NET is okay too) that is generic enough to handle most cases of MS Word text fields I need to fill with data I'm getting from a database? In short, I'm about to embark on this little Office automation excursion and I'm hoping a little bit of feedback here.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to create a table in Word using data from a table in Access. There are four fields in the access table that I need. 3 fields are text which I can populate the Word without any issues. However the fourth field is a memo with >255 characters.I'm struggling to come up with the proper code to allow me to populate the Word field with the memo data that has more than 255 characters. The code I have so far is listed below. But when it hits the memo field, it crashes on the line I marked with **. I know it's not text, but I've tried many different field types, but nothing has worked so far.[code]...
View 1 RepliesI have two forms. In form 1, I have a textbox1 and in form two, I have a textbox2 and a button1. Now what I want to do is, write in textbox2 (That is in FORM2) and when I press the button, it just go to textbox1 (That is in FORM1)
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to do something that I'm sure is very simple but I cannot find the proper way to code it in my book.My objective is to link employee names in a list box to a form(or new window) with information about the employee.
View 6 RepliesSo I'm doing an assignment with VS 10 at college that involves making a program for calculating orders but got stuck in trying to link the "invoice" listbox for the receipt to the one on my main form.
Let me illustrate my example:
This is the "main menu" is where the user adds bikes, edits existing ones and deletes if needed.
This is my receipt form, it opens perfectly fine and even shows the totals that are stated in my main form:
However, the listbox in my receipt form doesn't link or take in the information stored in my main form, which in this case, would be all the bikes. Here's my
Public Class BillForm
Private Sub ReceiptForm_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
[Code]....
What is wrong with it? The text boxes link up, but the list box always shows up empty when I try to add some bikes in on the main form.
I have already linked the file into the form, but can't figure out the code to write for buttons to beable to view the first record in the database in the file that i linked. I need to make buttons to find the first record, last record, previous and next record. Then I also need to code buttons to add, change, and delete records.

The list box on the main form is where the user adds, edits and deletes products. It's working perfectly fine it's array and select codes.The receipt form also has a list box, which should display all the products entered in the main form's listbox. My question is, what is wrong with my code? The text boxes seem to be working fine:
Public Class BillForm
Private Sub BillForm_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
lstBikesBill.Items.Add(DavidBicycles.lstBikes)[code]....
When I enter some data into the main form's list box and then click on the bill, the other list box shows up as empty.
I am working on a project that involves web application and windows application. I work using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and my language is vb.net. My question is how do i link a web form to a window form with a click of a button? There is a previous post (url...) on the same question but i do not seem to thoroughly understand the solution after reading all the threads.[code]Where should i put the project for the windows form and where should i put the project for the web form?

View 1 RepliesI am trying to populate a web from from a SQL table.
Public Class userDetails
Public address1 As String
Public address2 As String

however, there are like 50 fields in the User db, and it seems like a lot of retyping...
I have a table with many fields when I drag the details from the data sources tab to the form some fields do not show, and they go beyond what I can grab with a "blind group select" (I marquee beyond the bottom of the form and catch fields that I cannotsee). What can I do to place all fields on my form.
View 16 RepliesI'm currently refactoring an old Visual Basic DLL (VB.Net), which stores all of its data in one module called Globaldefinitions as public fields. There are about 200 fields, referenced thousands of times all around the code:
Public Module Globaldefinitons
Public a As Short
...
Public zz10 As Double
[Code]...
I need to change the module into a class with non-shared fields. This means, each and every of these thousands of references needs to reference the instance of that class:
globalDefinitionsInstance.a = 5
How do I go about this efficiently?
Regular expressions operating on the source fall flat. Refactoring tools like Re-Sharper or CodeRush don't seem to offer this functionality. Visual Studio 2010 cannot do it automatically either.
I have a problem trying to copy 3 fields on a form to a database. The reason I cannot seem to do it is that the last field asks how many copies you want to save in a combo box. So lets say the user selects 3 I need to be able to copy three sets of the same data to the database.
View 2 RepliesI'm using simple data binding and have in total 3 fields on my Form and 2 of them are hidden. The two hidden fields are calculated by filling in the first one. bellow you find the code I'm using, when the update is done only the first field that is fill in is written to the Database. How can I change the code to get all 3 of them written to the Database

I am trying to dynamically add label fields for a form. Just to test I am trying to write in just one label field. Every time I debug the program though I dont get any labels added to the form. Stepping through it looks like the properties are being set correctly.[code]
View 3 RepliesI am developing an application in which I would like to let the users design some forms and decide the fields that are in the form.An example is better than a poor explanation, so let me put the example of Microsoft CRM in which you as end user can define a form, the fields in that form, or customize existing forms by adding or removing fields.

[Code]...
Class Foo
ReadOnly name As String
Public Sub New(name As String, dependentUpon As Foo)
Me.name = name
[code]....
The output of New Bar() is:
Dependent created. Dependent upon nothing.
Independent created. Dependent upon nothing.
It seems fields are initialized in the same order as they appear in the source code, which (a) leads to an unexpected result, and (b) seems a little puzzling, given that one is normally not permitted to read from uninitialized variables in .NET, yet that seems to be working fine above.I would've expected VB.NET to be smart enough to initialize referenced fields first, and only then those that reference it; i.e. I'd have liked to see this output instead:
Independent created. Dependent upon nothing.
Dependent created. Dependent upon Independent.
how to get VB.NET to behave like that instead, without simply having to swap the declaration order of dependent and independent inside class Bar?
My intent is to have the code - on a button.click event - check the Username and Password fields and return an error depending on which is wrong. Or if both are wrong, return a different error message. I've set the username as parts and the password as parts (still learning how to use external authentication). [Code]
View 2 RepliesI need to build a rather simple form for collection some information from our membership. It has 4 Text boxes and one Submit button. The contents of the text boxes need to be emailed to a fixed Address and a fixed Subject. Before I got to fancy I tested the form to see if the email portion worked which I did get the email but not all the data. I am trying to stick with VB as I had experience with it years ago.
My problem seems to be in building the string for the body of the message. Trying to use StringBuilder but my syntax is messed up somewhere. The Fields that I have are: Name, Phone, Email Address: and Comments. They are named in the form as txtName, txtPhone, txtEmail and txtComments. [Code]
I am an experienced programmer but am new to VB. To start, I am trying to create a simple database program. (My ultimate goal is writing a comprehensive database program in 6-8 months)I have created the database and bound the fields to a form.
But what I want to be able to do is add a field to the database and then also bind that new field to a textbox on the form.The new field appears on the list in the Server Explorer window (on my left) but not in the data sources window (on my right.) The data sources windows has a "refresh" option but that does not help.When I manually add a textbox and try going to DataBindings in the property window the new database field is not listed.
I have been placing my database fields (details view) on a form but for some reason they are all appearing as text boxes with the exception of date fields. Why are none of them showing as drop down lists?

I am developing an application on VB2008 with MySql as database. I opened the connection without any errors. I have three fields/columns in my database and on the form. When I am running vb form data is not reflecting on to form fields.
I have written the following code in form load event.
'Dim cn As ADODB.Connection
'Dim rs As New ADODB.Recordset
'cn = New ADODB.Connection
'cn.ConnectionString = "DRIVER={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};" + "SERVER=localhost;" + "DATABASE=in_out;" + "UID=root;" + "PASSWORD=pacvision;" + "OPTION=3;"
'cn.Open()
'MessageBox.Show("Connection Opened Successfully")
'rs.Open("Select * from deptno", cn.ConnectionString, ADODB.CursorTypeEnum.adOpenKeyset, ADODB.LockTypeEnum.adLockOptimistic)
I have finished my database using Dreamweaver ASP VBScript and Access, the only thing left is to create the searching system. My search form works fine when posting just one filed. The results page Recordset goes as follows.
Code:
I need 7 different fields on my search form, this what I did but it doesn't work.
Parameters:
Name: MMColParam
Type: Text
Value: Request.Form("Ref")
Default value: 1
Name: MMColParam
Type: Text
Value: Request.Form("New_resale")
Default value: 1
"Price" is a special one because this is a list menu with different amounts, like 50.000, 70.000, 90.000, and so one. The idea is to make this list menu post to the result page, only to display records under or equal to the given value. less or equal > than 50.000 or 70.000, etc.
CODE:
This tells me "End of Statement" is expected. I'm trying to instantiate a new form, and I'm trying to pass information into the form that I will use to populate other data fields on the form.
I've tried looking up constructors, but I can't find where my is different than other examples.
