Forms :: Border Visible First Time - Second Time Not
Nov 7, 2010I create an app, with it when I click a button it opens a new form on a second monitor.
This works perfectly, but every first time the app start and I open the second form, on my primary screen (right side) I see the border of the second form. When I click the button again, the form is hidden, and when I click it again, it appears again but then the border is gone.

1. Textbox1
2. Button1
3. Label1
Label1.Text = "Updated Successfully"
Label1.Visible = False
Now what I want to do is, when I Enter something on Textbox1 and click Button1, Label1 should be visible and blinking.
Label1.Visible = True
But, when I type something on Textbox1 again (before even hitting Button1), Label1 should not be visible anymore and continues this way.Another way is to make Label1 visible for a specific time, say 5 seconds (blinking) and goes invisible. I prefer the first one though I would love to learn both?

List To Update Every Time And Show The Values Each Time To Which The Previous Value Is Added To The New Calculation?
Jun 22, 2010The idea with this form is to add the futures which is calculated when the button is pushed but I need the list to update every time and show the values each time to which the previous value is added to the new calculation, e.g. of what it should look like in listbox:
Year 1: $1,290.93
Year 2: $2,724.32
Year 3: $4,350.76
etc....
I have been working on this a while and I am at a standstill, I was given a function to clear the form everytime it calculates but I don't know how to implement it, I am new to VB. Here is what I have so far:

Oct 24, 2011i am trying to create a list of list in that i would like to work on multiple accounts at the same time. lets say i have 5 accounts. every account has a seperate name. each account has a few fields. so i though of having a list of bookkeeping (with 5 accounts) and a list of accounts (with expense, income, tax, status, etc as fields). Jumping Between Forms - Making A Form Visible And Not Visible
Jul 17, 2009I'm having an odd problem when making a form visible and not visible and it not continuing to function. Here is what I have happening. I have a main form (frmMain) that is an MDIParent. On this form I have a menu to open a second form (frmCalculate) and populate a listview from Items in the database.
As I click or select items in the listview on frmCalculate the tag is read and data is pulled based on the id stored in that tag and fills in various fields on the form. This works great. However, I also have a context menu attached to the listview that allows me to perform a "what if" scenerio on the items I am calculating. When I select this menu, I hide the frmCalculate and open the frmWhatIf form where I can mess around with values on the item I had hilighted in the listview on frmCalculate. Nothing is pulled from or written back to the database here, all the information is filled in from fields on frmCalculate. It just allows me to look at rising costs and how they will affect my margins.... anyway.
If I then close frmWhatIf, it brings my frmCalculate back by setting its visible propery to true (never closed frmCalculate, just hid it). At this point if I click an item in the listview I get an exception for a null reference. IF however I never hide frmCalculate, I can open and close frmWhatIF without ever having an issue. Why do I lose the functionality to select items just by hiding and unhiding the form? As a test I added two menus to the toolbar on frmMain one called hide and one called show. I then opened frmCalculate with original menu item to populate the listview and selected a few items to test that it was working and then using the hide menu I made the form invisible and the show button to bring it back. This yielded the same exception so without even opening frmWhatIf the problem still occurs.
C# - In A .NET Console App, Have A Line Of Text Stay Visible In The Console All The Time?
Jun 1, 2011I was thinking of adding a simple bandwidth monitor to a console application and I was wondering if it would be possible to keep a line in the console window visible at all times. I could set something up manually to pass new console output into a method that would get the contents of the console, clear the console, add the bandwidth data on the first row, then rewrite each line of previous information back to the console, etc.. but that seems like a really hacky way to go about it, and I'd be limited to the amount of rows visible at once in the console window (no scrolling).

Jun 28, 2010I have placed several PictureBox Images of different colored dots(which represent lights) on an image of a Christmas Tree. I can make the lights randomly flash using a randomGenerator and a Select case statement. However, the code is very long. There are 67 lights on this tree and the code is 71 pages long. There has to be an easier way to do this. So far I have tried the following with two images of lights just to see if it would work and it does not work:

Any Way To Add Files To List Other Than One At Time?
Oct 8, 2009I am building help files for a program using HTML Help Workshop.I have been trying to manually add files to the project file list as I write them, as HHW doesn't do so automatically.But it doesn't seem to matter whether the files are included in the list or not.When I compile, it tells me if any are duplicated, but it doesn't tell me if any are missing.(I have deliberately removed some to see if it makes a difference, so it's not that I haven't left any out.) And, whether they are in the list or not, the compiled help seems to find the files it needs.What is this list of files for?What files need to be included in it - html, css, images, maps? Why doesn't it seem to matter if my files are included in it or not? Is there any way to add files to the list other than one at a time? (e.g specify an entire folder?

For example, if i enter the string "hello" in the inputbox and click okay, it doesn't add to the list, but if i do it a second time, it goes in.

One Selection At A Time From Multi List Boxes?
Aug 8, 2011ok.. just as it sounds.. I'm kinda making a document portal app for work.. has 4 list boxes going to 4 different drive locations.. for cosmetic reasons I want only the last box you clicked in to show a selected item.. so if you selected box 1 item and it was hilighted and then you went to box 2 and selected something I wanted box 1 to then dissapear.
I have some code written to handle this.. but its not working so well.. since I use the SelectedIndexChanged trigger to fire off another piece of code to unselect all the other windows.. those listboxes fire their triggers also because I have to call lstWord. SelectedIndex = -1 to make it not have something selected anymore.. and when you do that.. it calls its SelectedIndexChanged and ends up deselecting everything.. so wasnt sure if anyone had done something like this before.. seems like something that would have been done before.. but as you can imagine searching the web for "multi list box select only one at a time" or something similar..gives you some strange results..

Scenario One: Single Selection.The application loads the selected web pages and parse's the content, this could take a short time, or it can take a few minutes.No problem here. I am using a BackgroundWorker to perform the parse.
Scenario Two: Multiple Selection
My query relates to a method that I can employ to deal with iteration of the CheckedListBox to process the next selected web page back on the UI.
I need to wait till the BW has finished before we can move on to the next page.I'm sure the above example is not best practice to hold up the UI's iteration of the CheckedListBox, until the current web page is processed.

Jan 16, 2009I am trying to change the background randomly from a selected list after a certain amount of time. I have the array set-up and I have it picking a random path (ex c:images est.jpg). I found in the registry the background image settings. I tried setting the registry key to the path but it seems like there is more to it than that because it doesn't change it. I also saw where it stored the file and tried changing it but again it doesn't change it. The funny thing is if I go to display properties afterwards it shows the correct image just doesnt set it. If I then click a different image and go back to it then it sets it. How can I make it update the background?

C# - Convert A Date And Time To UTC Time Based On The Time Zone Of The User?
Sep 6, 2009I have an ASP.NET application with a SQL Server back end. I am storing all my dates in UTC format and doing the appropriate conversions to the local time zone of the browser viewing it. One of the pages asks for a start date and end date (no times).
I am taking the start date and setting the time to 00:00:00 hours (midnight) and I'm taking the End time and adding a time of 23:59:59, so that the date range covers the whole day. Now what I'm trying to do is do a SQL query to do a search for records in this date range. The problem is, the data in SQL is in UTC time and the user is typing their dates and times in their local date and times. My quickest solution was to convert the date and time to UTC, then search the records. However, by doing this, I am to believe ASP.NET converts the given time and date to UTC based on the server time zone. How can I convert a date and time to UTC time based on the time zone of the user?
Get A Value From A Textbox That Is Not Visible?
Dec 25, 2009Does a textbox have to be visible = true to get it contents in code? I am finding that if I make a textbox visible = false then there is no value there when I reference it in my code. I am using the Text property. Am I doing something wrong or does the textbox just have to be visible?
