I have recently started to try to convert some of the applications I have written in VBA in excel into stand alone programs. I don't have any formal programming training and I am learning the hard way that VB is really not very close to VBA!! What I am doing is looping through each textbox in groupbox3. Then checking if the counter(total number of grades that are inputted in the form) are greater than the totalBoxes(which is set to 0) and finally I am putting the actual grade(A,B,C,D) into the textbox. The problem is that it is starting the loop at textbox 8(I have 10 textboxes) for some reason and going from there. Does anyone know what the problem is with my code?

View 2 Repliesi have a list of links on a form and when you click one, it will set a specific groupx visible to true in a set position. So I have about 8 groupbopx control on this form. When I drag one out of the way and another in the form in design time, it seems they stay inside one another at times if they overlay. I don't understand this. Then some will not show at runtime depending where they arer left from design time even though I set the position to be in the form. This is completely different from vb6. Why are they staying inside other groupbox controls rather than being independent?

This code doesn't work because the strings returned in the select case block don't match any of the cases that are coded. I need a better way to do this, I imagine there is a more efficient way.
How do I turn off the ability for controls within a groupbox to inherit the groupbox properties. For example, my groupbox text has a fontsize of 9 and bold. Every Label control that I put into the groupbox defaults to the same. How can I change that?
View 2 RepliesIn runtime I'm programmatically changing the forecolor to all label and radiobutton controls placed in the groupbox.
The only thing missing is to set the groupbox text/caption forecolor, but as soon as I do so programatically all controls in the groupbox inherits the font type and color making the text hard to read on the Button controls placed within the groupbox.
I'm working on a winform which contains several controls like textboxes, radio buttons, datagridviews... All of these controls have been added to a main group box called gbDataEntry. My problem is when the user is seeing the form, I set gbDataEntry.Enabled = False but I want to enable some controls like DataGridviews so the user can scroll them. After disabling gbDataGridview I set DataGridView1.Enabled = True but it seems that the datagridview does not respond to this line. Why?

So I have a do while loop , and I have my variables in place. One line of code is "btnRing1.Start = PlrName" So PlrName is a variable, pulling that info from a database. I don't want to list each btnRing1, 2, 3 in each block of code in my loop.
Is there a way to use the name btnRing + 1, or something like that so I don't have to list all 20 controls in my code.
I know I can dynamically build the controls, but I can only have 20, so I need to have a little control on the numbers. So I need to have the controls already built.

i have a winform and i have about 30 labels and 30 picture boxes on it. What i would like to do is fill each label and picturebox with a value and image from a backend database. I could have easily done this in vb6 using control struture , for eg.

I did a quick net search and found this which works great for looping through all the buttons to disable them. These buttons are located right on the form.

However...when I tried it on a form where the buttons are contained within a Table Layout Panel it does not work.

I am converting a program I wrote in VB6 to Visual Studio 2010 VB.Net and have run into a problem. I am trying to cycle through 20 form elements on a form that all have the prefix 'chkCustomerItems' and then have a number 1 to 20 behind them. I am using this with a database lookup so that it there is a database entry it then applies the database item name to the checkbox's text field and turns visibility on. Here is the code I wrote:

When it runs, I get a NullReferenceException error. This is basically the code that I used in VB6 (with some changes for .NET infrastructure).
I am looping through all controls on my form and for all checkboxes, I want to see if they are checked. I cannot get the Checked property when doing this. Am I doing something wrong?

But there is obviously an inheritance problem, since CommonDialog objects are not controls.

Next I have some labels on another form, that due to the design can't be in seperate panels. They are (lblChipColor1 - 6) and (lblChipValue1 - 7). I am trying to populate the color ones from the Array above. I can obviously loop thru the array, but I can't find a decent way to loop thru just the lblChipColorx lables ignoring the lblChipValue1x labels. It would be easy if they were on seperate panels. I tried adding the labels names to an array of type string and of type label, but got nowhere with that. Is there another way to group them, or build const array of label names, that I can work with?

Here using VB .Net 2008. I seem to be having trouble getting group boxes to appear when I click a radio button.

This indeed brings up the first radio button however I have other groupboxes underneath which with the same code will not appear when the radio button is checked.

The second groupbox does not appear and is directly behind the first groupbox. The Top code doesn't seem to be working either.
Can a vscrollbar be used in a groupbox. I have a group box with lots of items in it, but my program window is not long enough to diplay all of it. I wan to tuse the scroll bar in the groupbox.
