[Code] The above code does not work. I need for this to check to see if there is a database entry with the office name and today's date. Then if not it needs to tell the user that it is going to create a new entry for todays date. Then the code is trying to enter a new row in the database but it is like i can't use command. commandtext = in two spots. Both SQL commands work if separated but not together in this code. Obviously the abcdefghij are just test entries but it works if it is separated from the other sql command above. Also of course i have changed the datasource above to hide mine.
I am doing a project for a course that involves a database, i have it set up already so that i can have two different labels displaying data from two different fields in a table when the form loads, but i am trying to get it so that when i click an option in a listbox it will change the displayed information. I am using the following code to set it when the form loads:[code]
I have been struggling to find a solution for this problem. What I need to do is build a server application that accepts tcp client requests from different clients running on same port say:1003. I experimented by using asynchronous mode call backs etc. but it disconnects once connection is established and does not respond for further requests from the same client.
I have created an SQL query using Query Designer in VB.NET 2005. The commandtext for the query is somthing like SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE Field1=@Parameter1. I want to change this at run time to something like SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE Field1=@Parameter1 AND Field2=@Parameter2
What is wrong with this code?When the code runs cmd.ExecuteReader I get an error saying "Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'AS'".I'm assuming I didn't breakup the sentence correctly.
Using cnn As New SqlClient.SqlConnection(clsDBConn.clsDBConnections.prpConnString) cnn.Open() Using cmd As New SqlClient.SqlCommand[code].....
I'm trying to edit the CommandText for the Insert Command in a TableAdapter in the Designer in vb.net. Whenever I make changes to the CommandText, Visual Studio (2008) automagically changes the Parameters to a Collection consisting of one Parameter thatexisted before editing the Command, immersed in a sea of complete garbage Parameters, and then I either have to undo (unless this was the first thing I tried editing, in which case I have to close the Designer to discard changes and reopen it) or manuallychange ALL the Parameters back to something that isn't complete garbage.

Dear friends I am new in .net world and I am trying to display a single row to a literal. I prefer VB so my code is as follows but I'm getting the error "ExecuteReader: CommandText property has not been initialized".I also tried sqlCmd.CommandText = "getLastModificationDateTime" without the EXEC statement
I am trying to add an order by case statement in the dbcommand.commandtext but i see that no rows are returned. I want to assign priorities for colors in the case statement. This would help me avoid create a new table to priorities and rewrite a lot of code to map the foreign key.[code]
In my app (written in VS 2003) I use OleDbDataAdapter's to load data. I have some functions that enable be to change the OleDbDataAdapter.SelectCommand.CommandText at run time, by adding a "WHERE" or "HAVING" section to the SQL command, or updating the "WHERE " or "HAVING" section. This way I have have generic load data functions. (load all invoices for Customer 123, load all invoices for the year 2009, or load all invoices for Customer 123 for the year 2009).
With the new VS 2008 TableAdapter, the TableAdaper.CommandCollection property is Protected. How can I edit the TableAdaper.CommandCollection(0).CommandText at run time?
My general method up until now is I use SQLClient class along with CommandText to send SQL INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE statements dorectly to the SQL Server from the VB app. I have a function I use that will escape any special characters within any string variables. I put a lot of vb database functions in a module that all of my forms can use. When I need to pass data around I send/add arguments to functions using regular variables, etc... I log all of my SQL queries sent to the server to a log file for troubleshooting.So far this has worked well. I know there are better ways to do this, Stored Procedures for example. But I just have not made that leap yet. I'm about to consider turning my world upside down!
I'm MOSTLY interested in creating custom Classes that represent the various objects in my database (Customers, Projects, Invoices, etc...). Then defining all of the properties each of these classes should have: Customer.ID, Customer.Name, Customer.Status, etc... and would like to "map" that Customer object to the database I'm interfacing with. I figure I can wrap all of the SQL commands into methods within each class, i.e.: myCustomer.Name = "Joe Smith"
i want to designe a simple program that have one server and multiple clients.i program with vb.net,but dont know anything about winsock, can you send me a sample code for start.
connect my vb.net application to a remote sql server database, so every one who installs the application would be able to connect to the same remote database. the application would obviously require the internet to run.i also want the option to add more databases in the future, preferably one for each business who would use my software.i am wondering the best way to set up this server that could hold multiple databases. i would think i have two options:
1) set up the server myself on a dedicated computer
2) pay for some type of service that host sql server dataases
so how would i go about executing these options? i dont know the first thing. which option is better?i do however know how to connect to a remote database so thats not what i am asking.
I am hoping to get some advice on a project that I am wanting to work on. I have never done a web service/windows service or anything along the lines of what I am thinking so I would like some advice from some more experienced developers.I will be using VS2008 and VB.NET. My company currently mostly works in .NET 2.0 for our commercial application, but since this will be used mostly in house I would be able to use .NET 3.5 if suggested (am just not overly familiar with the additional features in .NET 3.5).What I would like is to have a server/service that communicates with multiple PCs. I want to create an application/web page (not familiar with web development so would probably start out as a winform app and possibly move to a web app to consume the service) that would query the web service/remoting service/whatever to retrieve information from each of the PCs (track the version of the application that is running, retrieve log files, push an update program to the PC (to be run manually)).
Not being too familiar with this type of scenario I was thinking something to the effect of:Each PC run a Windows Service that monitored the local PC. When something changes (software update installed?), tell the web service that the new version is installed.A service (web service? remoting server? other?) running on a PC that would be the interface to the windows service (not sure how the web service would talk to the Windows service without the Windows service initiating, though, unless it is also running a server) on the individual PCs. The service could request an update from the PCs (get the software version, request a file). The service would also be able to push an update program to the PCs to be run manually.
I am trying to do multiple joins within a single query in SQL Server CE. I know that SQL Server CE doesn't support multiple SELECTs but I can't find any information on multiple INNER JOINs. I keep getting token errors on ProjectItemMaster (after the FROM) and the first INNER JOIN. Warning this is a big ugly query used to generate reports.
[Code]...
If I can't uses multiple INNER JOINs I can I break the query down into a number of different queries but I would prefer not to. So it is easier to maintain a SQL Server CE and an SQL Server version of the program.
I have a select query like this. But from the below codes, I cannot update t2.unit_price in the same SqlDataAdapter
My Codes : Dim MyQuery1 as String="Select t1.item_id,t1,group_id,t2.unit_price from Table1 t1 left outer join Table2 t2 on T1.Item_ID=T2.Item_ID" Dim DAp1 as SqlDataAdapter,Ds1 as New DataSet Con.Open() DataAdapter1=New SqlDataAdapter(MyQuery1,Con) DataAdapter1.Fill(Ds1) [Code] .....
From the above codes Dim Sav1 As String = "insert into table1 .........." I don't know how to mention table2 also there ?
I have about 4 different tables with the exact same column names. What I would like to do is select the top 4 records out of all of these tables combined ordered by date (as date is one of the columns that they all share).
I have Memberships and Bookings tables in database containing an attribute cust_id which is primary key in Memberships and reference key in Bookings. When i am executing data reader I want it to read cust_id values from membership table but it is reading it from the bookings table.....
I am using this vb.net code file to call a procedure to get dates (among other things). When I execute this procedure in SQL 2005 Server Management Studio, I get about 10 columns. However when I execute this code, the dataset seems to only have one index value, maybe I am misunderstanding something. When I change this
ds.Tables(0).Rows.Count.ToString
to
ds.Tables(1).Rows.Count.ToString <---changing the index value to 1 (or higher)
I get no information. So my question is;
Does the DataSet contain the other columns, only not indexed like an array? What I want to do is choose which of the columns to filter out and turn the rest into JSON formatted strings.
I'm trying to upload multiple XML files to a remote server but I am having problems. My code will upload 1 or 2 files then it will pause for a while then error out saying "The operation has timed out". Here is the code that does the uploading:
Private Sub SendFiles() Dim ediServer As String = "ftpservername" Dim useFile, ediFileName, ediFile As String
[Code]....
Should I be creating a new request object inside a loop for each file like I am?
In a tutorial i found a chat using Wunnell. Which I guess is using TCP Client/Server stuff.I have got it setup so i can host the server on a vps and allow multiple people to use it. Here is the thing. On the server side, It allows you to send to everyone which works fine, using this code;[code]......
