I am in the beginning stages of learning VB.NET and all I want to know is how you link a created Class Library to a Form? I've seen code at the top of the designer window that says <dim objSomething as New somethingClass> What the heck is that and how does it work?

View 2 RepliesI've created a custom class that I've grown rather dependent on in my coding. I've encapsulated it as it's own "Solution" and use a reference to the class module within the solution on most of my new projects, and that all works fine. It seems slightly clunky to me that my encapsulated class module is packaged with solution-related directories and so forth. For me, this seems to make management and maintenance of these little class modules difficult (renaming them for instance). So now, a few questions:
When you recognize you have a useful class embedded within a solution:
1) What's your method for encapsulation? (is there a template you like?)
2) How do you organize/arrange your code libraries?
3) When, if ever, might you consider using that "Code Snippets Manager" thing in the IDE?
I'm struggling a bit trying to understanding how Visual Studio wraps-up everything in what appears to be a "Solution" umbrella. There doesn't seem to be a lot of write-ups on how to go about organizing your code libraries to work well within this Solution/Project Visual Studio framework.
I just recently installed VB 6.0, and I went to install MSDN Library (April 2000 Release of the MSDN Library)afterward. I was missing CD 2, but installed the other 2 CDs. It appears CD2 is the primary one for VB. Do you know how I can get this specific CD --OR-- can I just download a newer version (i have been looking for both on MSDN with no luck)?

I'm using a dialup connection and I'd like to use a third porty download manager so that I can pause/shutdown/restart the download process a few times. It's 243MB, which would take about 10-12 hours on my connection. I can't tie up the phone line for this amount of time.Is there an external link to an .exe or .msi package somewhere?

Public class example
private IAmAObject As IAmAObject
public sub new()
[CODE]...
Or like this:
public class example
private IAmAObject as new IAmAObject
public sub new()

I always use the first one. It's more type work but I think it's neater. How about you people and is there any real difference between the two?
I have trouble to control my form using with the class library. I am trying to set the form to maximum and set the form border to none. There is an error in come to the end of the statement next to the test.myform.[code]The error I have received is Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
View 6 RepliesI have a Windows Form application compiled to a .exe that contains standard classes and one windows form class. I would like to reference that .exe in another project. The dialog to add references shows .exe, I add the file to my project, I can see the classes from that file but when I run the second executable I get a "cannot load type" error when I try to access the classes contained in the referenced .exe
That behavior seems strange to me since the IDE accept the .exe as a reference and even "intelisenses" its classes.
I do this because I want a standalone version of the form, but I also reuse it in other project. Am I doing it wrong, what's the best practice in my scenario? I'd rather not maintain both a Class Library project and a Windows Form project that includes the same code.
I have a .net class library with a com class that calls a form. I want to to SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false) to ensure the form fonts look nice.
If I run the command in the class constructor I get the following error:
SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault must be called before the first IWin32Window object is created in the application.
Edit1: To clarify, I get this error when initiating the class from a .net test harness, if I call it from a VB6 app then I simply get "Automation Error"
Edit2: Is the answer that I cannot use SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault in a com class when calling from a vb6 app?? Maybe it's the "parent" app that needs to call this method and as such a vb6 app cannot?

View 7 RepliesI have an app (vb.net) that sues multi threading and have tow problems.
1. The program is used for trading currency markets and mointers prices all day. When a signal is generated it wil place a trade in a new thread. In the new thread it checks to see if a trade is on already and if so it will not place another trade.The problem is it can be too fast and place another trade before the server has processed the first trade. So trade count returns 0. As the system watches 6 accounts I can not just pause the other thread to make sure it has finished before trying ot place another trade.How to i check to make sure the first thread is finished so when i check for trade count it retuns 1?
2.The new thread is inside a class and has a logging class as well. The problem is writing to the text box on the main thread. As the logging thread is created in the new thread it has no access to the textbox. I have tried using invoke but it still does not write to text box as it does not exist in the new thread.How do i reference a form from a class that was created in a new thread?

View 6 RepliesI have created a class which generates a form in code. I have hooked up the buttons and a text box so that they work. Now, I am trying to hook up the Resize event (and probably will need other events) for this form. How do I do that? If I can understand how to do it for the Resize event, I should be able to apply that to whatever other events I might want to use. I can't just put "Handles frmMyForm.Resize" or "Handles Me.Resize". I get the message "Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types." This all has been a learning experience.

I would then somehow connect it to my Visual Basics login form (Which I have already made). If this can't be done, having them register through the form and having all the allowed codes on the internet (So i can easily edit them)!

I want to give the user using the .DLL file to have the ability to select which database they want to query. How can I achieve that?
