Making ASP.NET Label Visible Appears To Have No Effect
Jun 1, 2012
I have the following in my code:
lblIsInvalid.Visible = True
I have noticed that even after going to this line, it does not make the label visible. I am thinking this may be a refresh issue as the last line hit is lblIsInvalid.Visible = True. Is there any refresh property that I may not be aware of for a label control.
I have five menu items that i have created as a user control and placed on the master page. Now i want one of the menu items to be visible only for particular user role and not visible for others. Here is what I did. Its not working though.
I'm having an odd problem when making a form visible and not visible and it not continuing to function. Here is what I have happening. I have a main form (frmMain) that is an MDIParent. On this form I have a menu to open a second form (frmCalculate) and populate a listview from Items in the database.
As I click or select items in the listview on frmCalculate the tag is read and data is pulled based on the id stored in that tag and fills in various fields on the form. This works great. However, I also have a context menu attached to the listview that allows me to perform a "what if" scenerio on the items I am calculating. When I select this menu, I hide the frmCalculate and open the frmWhatIf form where I can mess around with values on the item I had hilighted in the listview on frmCalculate. Nothing is pulled from or written back to the database here, all the information is filled in from fields on frmCalculate. It just allows me to look at rising costs and how they will affect my margins.... anyway.
If I then close frmWhatIf, it brings my frmCalculate back by setting its visible propery to true (never closed frmCalculate, just hid it). At this point if I click an item in the listview I get an exception for a null reference. IF however I never hide frmCalculate, I can open and close frmWhatIF without ever having an issue. Why do I lose the functionality to select items just by hiding and unhiding the form? As a test I added two menus to the toolbar on frmMain one called hide and one called show. I then opened frmCalculate with original menu item to populate the listview and selected a few items to test that it was working and then using the hide menu I made the form invisible and the show button to bring it back. This yielded the same exception so without even opening frmWhatIf the problem still occurs.
I have been searching the internet and this forum for the answer to my problem, but so far nothing is working. I want a label to appear 10 seconds after the form loads. This is one of the codes that I have tried so far [code] it doesn't work. Like this the label is visible when the form loads and then disappears, but if I switch the Label2.Visible = True & False the code doesn't work at all. It also doesn't do anything if I change the = to a less than sign.
I'm developing a Windows Service, but for some reason, the changes I'm making to my code file aren't taking effect. I clean, build, and rebuild the solution as well as all the files that I'm changing, but nothing's happening.Is this a problem with the installation of the service, or something wrong with my IDE? I just now thought that maybe I shouldn't be rebuilding the files...
I'm trying to stack a few lists on top of each other. But the label.size.height appears to be bigger then the label itself. When i set the borderstyle to fixedsingle, i see the border around the text. But the height is bigger, so there comes a space between one label and the next. I have tried to set margin and padding to 0 without result. Exemple: label.size.height return 23, when the height actually is something around 15. Does someone knows how i get the right size? Edit: When i explicitly set the height of the lable, the problem is solved. Is this some problem with autosize?
I am trying to write a program where I have to create a Reset Button.On the form are two buttons a textbox and a label.I have to put some information in the textbox and if the information is wrong I get an error message, I have finished that part of the program.My problem is creating the Reset button.When I get an error I need to press the reset button to clear the data in the textbox and replace it with the words Reset Button in the textbox. Also I have to create a label that doesn't appear unless I don't press the Reset button to start over. So if I have an error and try to type something else in the textbox without pressing the Reset button then the label appears and say YOU NEED TO PRESS THE RESET BUTTON. That is the only time that the label will appear is when I don't press the reset button.
I have a window form with a label. On the form I have a dataset, bindingsoure, and tableadaptor (all created by the IDE in response to binding the text property of the label) To fill the datatable, the IDE created this: Me.ClientsTableAdapter.Fill(Me.MyDataSet.Clients) Works fine. The bound field is a phone number, stored in the db as a 10 digit numeric string I need to format this with the standard ()-, and I have a function that will do just that. How can I apply the formatting so the phone number appears in the label properly?
I have a CheckedListBox with 6 different indices that all correspond to a textBox. For example: Index 0 corresponds with TextBox1, Index 1 corresponds with TextBox2, and so forth. When the user selects the item in the CheckedListBox, the TextBox with that particular index becomes visible. I am at a loss. I have been working on this for 4 days now, with no end in sight!
I am disabling combobox in VB.net. But in disable mode it not visible properly. I tried changing both BackColor and ForeColor but it is not working.
Code :
cmbbox.BackColor = Color.FromName("Window") or cmbbox.ForeColor = Color.FromName("Window")
I am making my component enable false.But I want to make it viewable.You can reffer the link.This is what exacly I want but in VB.Net : A combobox that looks decent when it is disabled
I am trying to make a customer class that will simply make a bunch of controls (hotspots) Visible value = False.
For instance: WinStartSpot.visible = False
Thing is I have roughly 60 "spots" that need to be turned on and off as the user clicks through the program (its a very simple OS simulator) I tried to make a class using boolean return but that failed miserably. how to code a class like that?
The basis of the program is that the user enters info into to text boxes then hits a button, when the button is clicked and all the parameters are met, the visible property of a rather large picture box becomes true. What I want to do is have the form start off small, just big enough to hold the labels, text boxes and buttons and then resize when the picture box is made visible.
I have set up a GridView as set out below. You can see there are four LinkButton's per row. What I want to do is make certain LinkButtons available depending on which row they appear in. <asp:GridView ID="FormsGrid" runat="server" Width="657px" Height="250px" DataKeyNames="FORM_NAME,FORM_ACCESS,STATUS,ID" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" > <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="DEADLINE_DATE" HeaderText="Date" DataFormatString="{0:d}" SortExpression="DEADLINE_DATE" /> [Code] .....
When I try to make them not visible use the code below in FormsGrid_RowDataBound, it doesn't work and a get a null value error. if e.Row.Cells(4).Text = "1" then Dim FLbtn As LinkButton = FormsGrid.FindControl("FormLinkBtn") FLbtn.Visible = True Dim NRbtn As LinkButton = FormsGrid.FindControl("NotReqBtn") NRbtn.Visible = False [Code] ..... Also when I click say the FormLinkBtn, how do I determine the value of the fields in that particular row?
I'm making a project that has a bunch of different types of calculators in the same tab within a tab control. To organize these calculators, I put each one in a groupbox, there are about 5 or 6 in all. When I was finished designing all of them, I placed all the groupboxes in the spot they needed to be, but once I started creating the events for them to be visible or not visible there are a bunch that don't show up. I think it has to do with the fact that VB thinks that the groupbox is part of another groupbox that isn't visible so it doesn't show.
How can I go about only showing a single calculator at once in my tab?
I have an american flag that is visible when i click the united states menu item. I can have a label pop up if the country name menu item is clicked. If I have several countries i can choose from. How do i get the label to pop up and appear with the correct country flag?
i have a label control which i initially set visible = False in the property barThen in my code,try lblItem.Visible = True<code><code><code><code><code><code>catch ex as exception<code>End tryWhen i execute this piece of code, the lblItem could not be displayed until all the code has been run through. By right, it should appear before all the code execute isnt it?Am i missing something here?
I want to be able to click on one toolstrip button and hide it while making another visible.I tried the .show and .hide expressions but they come up with an error.
I am using the Tabcontrol with autoscroll = True feature, when i make hidden controls visible on the tab there position is out of place, one work around for this is to set the scroll position to 0,0 by doing this...
How can I set my application in VB 2010 to do something when I press a certain key on the keyboard? I heard somethin about the Keypress Event but i'm not sure that will actually work. I want a code so that my application can do the following things: If I press either the left or the right Windows Logo key on the keyboard, I want it to make Label2 visible. I already set the Visible value on false in Mybase.Load.
I dragged and dropped a label from the toolbox onto a form (Label6) and stupidly went to the properties window and set "Text" to blank. Label6 shows when the program is run using F5 but does not show on the design surface if I want to move or remove it. How do I get it back onto the design surface or remove it completely?
I want to alter the .visible property of a label based on if a variable is positive or negative (Hiding it for negative values) But I want to do this for lots of labels so If Statements are too bulky.
I tried this:
Label1.visible = CBool(IntVariable1)
But it turns out CBool returns True for ANY value and False for Zero.I'd assumed it would be True for positive values and False for negatives.How can I do it without if statements?I considered Modulo or SquareRoots to somehow convert a negative number into zero, but didn't want to complicate things with imaginary numbers.
In my space invaders game, you press start, which creates 15 pictureboxes. When I hit the spacebar, a bullet moves to the top of the screen. What code would allow me to make a picturebox invisible that isn't named yet?
I am usng a multi threaded process to fire off a task, but when it is completed I want to make a label visible on the main form (form 1), eg "process completed", however the code I have in place comes up with the following error message;
Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'lblCompleted' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on.
I have a graphics application that uses graphics paths. Code seen below. You can use keyboard characters to display information. When a label is set to visible = false after being turned on for a number of seconds a stray image is generated. The stray images are also sometimes generated when the label is first made visible.
' points p10b, p2b etc are defined elsewhere Dim GrpPoints As PointF() = {p10b, p2b, p3b, p11b, p5b, p6b, p12b} GrPath = New GraphicsPath ' 7 path points GrPath.AddBeziers(GrpPoints)
[code]....
I tried stopping the code from running when the label is set to visible = false but the stray image is still generated but just later. If you want more information let me know.The white arrows points to the stray image that is created just after a label that displayed information was set to visible = false
New to VB.net, just trying to figure out how to properly manipulate the asp:Label control.I have a page that, based on if there are results, etc should display an <h1></h1> tag with a header, then the data. As I am using the code-behind model, my user facing page essentially just has the following:
[Code]...
On my code-behind page, I then set the asp:Label and asp:DataList to Visible="true" based on the data from the database. Here's the catch - if there is data, I want to set lblMessage to be an H1, and if not, just standard Label text. I realize I can emulate the look through the CSS, but was just hoping there was another way (maybe similar to the ItemTemplate concept) to specify the HTML type of the Label control - it appears to be a by default.
First post here, so I have no clue if this is the right place to ask this or not, but it looked like it.
Anyways, what I'm trying to do as an exercise is make a roulette game. I decided it would be best to put my buttons ON the actual table itself, so that the player can click which one he wants to bet on, and it'll bring up an Input Box asking how much he wants to bet, and yeah.
So, I tossed a button on there, set the parent to the picturebox of the roulette table, set the back color to transparent, and got rid of the text. Lo and behold, it's transparent!
I've got a panel - that's in a group box. All of this - with lots of other textboxes on labels - is in another panel (the big panel).I make the big panel visible and not visible based on selections made by the user.This small panel - that's in the group box. I cannot seem to make it appear.Even if I leave it VISIBLE at design time - the objects in it will not appear.Is there some kind of nesting problem that I'm not aware of!
I have placed several PictureBox Images of different colored dots(which represent lights) on an image of a Christmas Tree. I can make the lights randomly flash using a randomGenerator and a Select case statement. However, the code is very long. There are 67 lights on this tree and the code is 71 pages long. There has to be an easier way to do this. So far I have tried the following with two images of lights just to see if it would work and it does not work:
I'm a huge music person (got my own lil record thing going) but I'm wanting to design a program that would make music in my way. I have a decent amount of background knowlege of Visual Basic and Java I'm just wondering how could I execute this whole project. The Project is making a MPC Sampler. MPC is a drum machine; a machine with buttons that once you press it that it will play a sound from a drum (ex: snare, kick, tom, ect.) . So I would want to make some pads on my program that each have their own sound. Total of 16 pads. Which the design wouldn't be hard to make nor would the functionality of it having the play back sound (in my opinoin it wouldn't be hard atleast). But the thing is I wanna map out these pads to number keys on the number pad or keyboard. I'm not so sure how to do that. But that's all the easy stuff...
Also finding information is making a sound directory. What I mean by this is that I want to make a User Interface that will open up a file directory of sounds and the user can select what "kick" or "snare" sound he may want for the kick or snare pad. I don't know how to do that or even know what to search; neverless I don't know if this whole project idea is a good idea for Visual Basic or another programing language.
Also LATER ON I am wanting to add a record and export function that alows users to..well...record and export their beat or instrumental ha. That doesn't seem too too complex (mainly due to the fact that all it needs to do is record the users key strokes and then show them and play the sounds, but obviously it would get more complex than that.)
Here is an image of one of many MPCs but one with a directory - [URL]
Below is the exception code info. when I try to make form visible for the first time from another form then I get an exception code. something like 'a required variable not set'
