VS 2008 Making A Groupbox In The Same Area As Another Become Visible While The 1st Isn't
Jan 26, 2010
I'm making a project that has a bunch of different types of calculators in the same tab within a tab control. To organize these calculators, I put each one in a groupbox, there are about 5 or 6 in all. When I was finished designing all of them, I placed all the groupboxes in the spot they needed to be, but once I started creating the events for them to be visible or not visible there are a bunch that don't show up. I think it has to do with the fact that VB thinks that the groupbox is part of another groupbox that isn't visible so it doesn't show.
How can I go about only showing a single calculator at once in my tab?

I'm having an odd problem when making a form visible and not visible and it not continuing to function. Here is what I have happening. I have a main form (frmMain) that is an MDIParent. On this form I have a menu to open a second form (frmCalculate) and populate a listview from Items in the database.
As I click or select items in the listview on frmCalculate the tag is read and data is pulled based on the id stored in that tag and fills in various fields on the form. This works great. However, I also have a context menu attached to the listview that allows me to perform a "what if" scenerio on the items I am calculating. When I select this menu, I hide the frmCalculate and open the frmWhatIf form where I can mess around with values on the item I had hilighted in the listview on frmCalculate. Nothing is pulled from or written back to the database here, all the information is filled in from fields on frmCalculate. It just allows me to look at rising costs and how they will affect my margins.... anyway.
If I then close frmWhatIf, it brings my frmCalculate back by setting its visible propery to true (never closed frmCalculate, just hid it). At this point if I click an item in the listview I get an exception for a null reference. IF however I never hide frmCalculate, I can open and close frmWhatIF without ever having an issue. Why do I lose the functionality to select items just by hiding and unhiding the form? As a test I added two menus to the toolbar on frmMain one called hide and one called show. I then opened frmCalculate with original menu item to populate the listview and selected a few items to test that it was working and then using the hide menu I made the form invisible and the show button to bring it back. This yielded the same exception so without even opening frmWhatIf the problem still occurs.

I am trying to get a button or picture to be able to move in a groupbox with the click of a button while using a loop procedure. I need the object to be able to 'bounce' off of the edges instead of going off the screen, and I also need to be able to incorporate a timer with a limit based on what the user inputs. I am using Visual Basic 2005.

In my card game program, I have used 4 main GroupBoxes to act as dialogue boxes. Some contain additional GroupBoxes to house such things as RadioButtons, TextBoxes and CheckBoxes.Software places them when and where needed, so I usually move them apart in the Design screen to keep them all visible at once. However, with each new GroupBox I added to the program, their behaviour became increasingly vexing.In the design window, they are not allowed to overlap, or they will either partially or completely disappear. When they disappear, I have to find them with the Properties Viewer (when selected, the 4 sizing blocks appear and I can tease the drag symbol to appear).Worse, when my program is running, a GroupBox left in the Design mode in an "unfavoured location" (for lack of a better term) will refuse to appear when called.
I have single stepped past the code that positions the GroupBox and makes it visible and I have noted that the top and left positions are correct, but when I let the mouse hover over the word 'Visible' in the line "GroupBox1.Visible = True" the popup reports it as False.There is nothing I can do at run-time to make the GroupBox appear. I must return to the Design window and try moving it to a more favourable location.

I'm a beginner at using vb. I'm having a problem with making group boxes visible. I have two buttons: btnLevel1 & btnLevel2. When user clicks btnLevel1 GroupBox3 must be visible and GroupBox4 must be hidden. And when user clicks btnLevel2 GroupBox4 must be visible.

Dim intOptionLocationX As Integer = 0
Dim intOptionLocationY As Integer = 10

In visual basic.net I have been playing around with groupboxes and things of that nature, is there any way to group items into a box, say, buttons, and use the groupbox as a container to move / hold all of its contents while not being visible in any way? (no decoration perhaps?)
I've tried making the groupbox invisible but that makes all the items within the groupbox invisible as well.

I'm working on a Vb.net project. I have a form with a RichTextBox or a simple TextBox control. It contains hundreds of text lines, so the control has to be scrolled.
I want to send to a printer only the lines that are currently seen on the control window.
That is, I want to convert what I see into an Image and then draw that image thru e.Graphics.DrawImage.
As you can see, it could also be the case of a ListBox, a TreeView or any other scrollable control.
How can I grab that rectangle area and then convert it into an Image? The rest I already know how to do it.

I am working on a spreadsheet-like custom control, manually painting all cells according to its bounds and indexes. All is working fine until I populate it to upto a hundred rows (with fixed 6 columns). Basically my sheet expands itself to fit all cells, so to use it properly on a form, I use a panel with autoscroll = true and with my sheet inside. The problem is, the control flickers a lot, which I think is caused by painting ALL of the cells. Is there a way to paint only the visible area.?? So when I scroll down, the control would paint only the visible cells on that area. What I am thinking right now is to not put it in a container, but rather, put a scrollbar in my control. Then that scrollbar would then handle the setting of visible cells, and then my paint event would only paint that visible cells. I am using VB btw, .NET 3.5.. I cant put the code in here cause its separated in different classes(Cell, CellCollection, Rows, Columns, Range, Worksheet, etc.)

I have a CheckedListBox with 6 different indices that all correspond to a textBox. For example: Index 0 corresponds with TextBox1, Index 1 corresponds with TextBox2, and so forth. When the user selects the item in the CheckedListBox, the TextBox with that particular index becomes visible. I am at a loss. I have been working on this for 4 days now, with no end in sight!

I am trying to make a customer class that will simply make a bunch of controls (hotspots) Visible value = False.
For instance: WinStartSpot.visible = False
Thing is I have roughly 60 "spots" that need to be turned on and off as the user clicks through the program (its a very simple OS simulator) I tried to make a class using boolean return but that failed miserably. how to code a class like that?

The basis of the program is that the user enters info into to text boxes then hits a button, when the button is clicked and all the parameters are met, the visible property of a rather large picture box becomes true. What I want to do is have the form start off small, just big enough to hold the labels, text boxes and buttons and then resize when the picture box is made visible.

I have the following in my code:
lblIsInvalid.Visible = True
I have noticed that even after going to this line, it does not make the label visible. I am thinking this may be a refresh issue as the last line hit is lblIsInvalid.Visible = True. Is there any refresh property that I may not be aware of for a label control.

I have set up a GridView as set out below. You can see there are four LinkButton's per row. What I want to do is make certain LinkButtons available depending on which row they appear in.
<asp:GridView ID="FormsGrid" runat="server" Width="657px" Height="250px" DataKeyNames="FORM_NAME,FORM_ACCESS,STATUS,ID"
AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" >
<Columns>
<asp:BoundField DataField="DEADLINE_DATE" HeaderText="Date" DataFormatString="{0:d}"
SortExpression="DEADLINE_DATE" />
[Code] .....
When I try to make them not visible use the code below in FormsGrid_RowDataBound, it doesn't work and a get a null value error.
if e.Row.Cells(4).Text = "1" then
Dim FLbtn As LinkButton = FormsGrid.FindControl("FormLinkBtn")
FLbtn.Visible = True
Dim NRbtn As LinkButton = FormsGrid.FindControl("NotReqBtn")
NRbtn.Visible = False
[Code] .....
Also when I click say the FormLinkBtn, how do I determine the value of the fields in that particular row?

Me.Controls.Add(Groupbox3)
Groupbox3.Controls.Add(FlowLayoutPanel)
I can only add 4 linklabels no matter how big is the groupbox, i tried autoscroll but nothing. How can i do to store minimum 20 linklabels in a groupbox? Here is the whole code i used:
Imports System.Net
Imports DevComponents.DotNetBar.Controls
Imports System.Windows.Forms[code]....
Is there any way, maybe with a specific reference to put a control that records what plays wmp activex and to save somewhere on your computer?

Here using VB .Net 2008. I seem to be having trouble getting group boxes to appear when I click a radio button.
For example:
CODE:
This indeed brings up the first radio button however I have other groupboxes underneath which with the same code will not appear when the radio button is checked.
Eg:
CODE:
The second groupbox does not appear and is directly behind the first groupbox. The Top code doesn't seem to be working either.

Trying to set the viewable area to a smaller screen area and have it cycle through as the person moves using collision detection to move the backgroudn image. Here is the start but its off to a bad start so far.
Public Class Form1
Dim Mapx As Integer = 600
Dim Mapy As Integer = 2000
[code]....
Basically the forum size is set to 600x2000 but the client should only allow you to view 600x600. I want it to add +1 once you "collide with a invisable box I'll add and this will redraw the screen.

I designed a form and managed to fit graphics inside it. Picture box is 465 pixels high. Form1 is 500 pixels high. SnapShot of the screen verifies that the 500 pixel height is the overal height. It includes the upper Bar and lower frame. Is there an instruction to set the From's inner pixel size and not overal?

Is there a way to validate a groupbox with a couple radiobuttons in it to make sure that one of the radiobuttons is selected?
Heres why I need this. I need a user to be able to select their class rank out by way of radiobuttons in a groupbox. When they click submit, I need to validate that atleast one of the radiobuttons got selected and if not display a messagebox.
I got one reply early of:
If myGroupBox.Controls.OfType(Of RadioButton).Count(Function(rb) rb.Checked) = 0 Then
'There is no RadioButton checked in myGroupBox.
End If
Is there any other ways other then that? Preferrably a more 'dumbed' down way? This is for just an entry level VB class, I would prefer not to use something of that nature if there is another way.

I am having a problem doing select case inside my groupbox.I have a bunch of buttons in a groupbox, each button will do a same function only with a different values when clicked.For example, let's say i have 3 buttons in the groupbox for now.[code]The function will display a message in a textbox.My problem here is, the message shown in the textbox will always be Case "C", the last 1. I jumbled the order, anything that's last will appear instead which I think it's because of the For Each. I tried a do while loop but I do not have any conditions i can think of to use for it. I also tried using IFs instead of Select Case but not successful.

I've got a panel - that's in a group box. All of this - with lots of other textboxes on labels - is in another panel (the big panel).I make the big panel visible and not visible based on selections made by the user.This small panel - that's in the group box. I cannot seem to make it appear.Even if I leave it VISIBLE at design time - the objects in it will not appear.Is there some kind of nesting problem that I'm not aware of!

I'd like to make a GroupBox have a black line as its boarders , just in the old VB6 , but it seems there isn't any such a property . Look , for example in the picture below : First there is GroupBox control but it can only have a line around it without color . Next , there is a Panel control , but the problem with that is that it can't have a caption set . At the far right side there is Panel control with a Label control placed over it . That's the best way I can think of in order to make something that at least will look like with what I have in mind . However , is there any other way I could do that ?
