Making A Messenger - Program A Slight Delay In The Computer's Answer?

I'm working on a project where I make a automatic messenger from VBnet. I want to program a simple one that responds to certain words or phrases. However, I only know the rough basics of If...Then commands. I have a lot of problems:
1. How do I make it so the messages typed in the box actually goes up into the script box when I press send?
2. How do I program a slight delay in the computer's answer?
3. How do I set a name to the computer and to me?
4. How do I make the script goes into scrolling when it runs out of space.
5. If possible, when I type an equation in the box, can I program the computer to solve it and display the answer? I'm a beginner so I don't really know the overall organization of this project. However, I would like it to remain as simple as possible.
I have a simple chat program i have made, it works but with a few errors.
1st if it can't find the physical pc it is trying to connect to it crashes.
2nd if it finds the physical server but not the program (server) running it says "the computer actively refused the connection on IP/Port" and then crashes.
i am trying to make a messenger client which will work like alerter or similar, so far i have decided to to make two applications,
1) which will send messenger,(sender)
2) which will accept msg and display a alert to user using msgbox.(receiver)
i have started coding receiver, i am using port 6000 to listen to messenger.so far i have made code to listen to port(open/bind/listen)but now i am not able to figure out how to display messages to user received on that port.

I know that time delays have been covered before around almost everywhere. however a method that forgoes forcing the GUI to become temporarily non-responsive, is all but a myth, or at least to my findings. i have the need for a GUI program to delay before the next command, however using the current method, detailed following, it causes the desired effect however it dose make it much less polished as when you click anything else on the GUI it goes un-responsive for the directed time. [Code] make a sub called say Tdelay( milseconds as integer) and have it run a loop as many times as the milseconds variable indicates and each time making the thread delay for 1 milsecond and then update the GUI/form in some way, then re-loop.
I am thinking is to have a question, then between 2-4 answers, and depending on the answer a point value gets assigned to a variable, but then when that one question is answered you can click a button that moves to a next page type of thing with a new question on it. I think I could probably figure most of this out but when it comes to switching to a different question I am not sure how I would do that.

I'm currently creating a maths game for primary school children and have questions based on addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.I tried it out yesterday and if I type in the correct answer, I get told it's wrong, but if I type in the in the number I'm dividing by, as the answer it comes up as correct. How do I change this so that the correct answer is actually the correct answer?
I'm trying to make a quiz application with Visual Basic at the moment. I want to write a routine that asks five questions to which the answer must be either Yes or No. It must add up the number of Nos and if the number of Ns is less than two then print out "pessimist", otherwise print out "optimist". developing a program in Visual Basic 2010 to help with my study in school. I would like to develop a program whereby the user is asked to input the correct answer to a question; if the answer is correct the next question comes up if it is incorrect the user must try again until the correct answer is given. I would like to have quite a few questions (around 50).
I was just wondering if there was a way with, using VB.net, be able to create a program to detect when a message is received in Windows Live Messenger, and alert the user?Essentially, MSN is minimized in background and our program, Program A, is also running in backgroung.Friend X sends us a message, the MSN icon blinks as usualy, but also a window pops up and shows the name of the user and the message.I was just wondering if there was a way to connect to MSN in some fom to be able to do this?

im looking for a way to have my program wait a certain amount of seconds before it goes on to the next command, ive tried the sleep command but that freezes up my program and i cannot let that happen, ive heard of using timers as a delay but i don't really know how to do that.

I am puzzled by a delay in my data appearing (sql sever) when I open my program. (this can be around 5 to 6 seconds). If I open it a second time it appears instantly, have I done something wrong, or not done something. I have connect to a MS access database that connection is instant always.

I'm working on a quadratic formula program and when I enter 1 as A, 2 as B, and 1 as A (X should end up being -1), it returns "NaN" in both text boxes.
I am making a program which generates a random number between 1 and 10 and when 7 appears it is suppose to tell you how many tries it took to get the number 7 and then end the application. This is the code I have used:

This code only generates the number 7 and exits the application, each time i click the random button but i want it to show the other number it randomizes too for example 1 2 3 4 .. etc, if u dont understand, please try it, but im trying to say, when i clikc random it just says number 7 (does randomizing in background) and tells you how much tries it took but i want it to show the other number it randomized also and when 7 appears, then exit the program
