Dec 1, 2009is there a way to make an array but instead of listing the things yourself, you open a text file with a bunch of words and use those?

Feb 24, 2011Im making a class that represents a file. Im making a sub that reads data from one byte array into many properties. Now i need something that returns a byte array but only the first 4. Let me demonstrate because i can't think of a logical way of explaining. "something".substring(0,3) That would return a string containing "som" i need a function like that for a byte array

Is there an existing function for this type of thing ? i've looked but didn't see anything that I understood.

Nov 2, 2010I have 2 arrays, tile(13,6) and loc1tile(13,6). Is there a way to make the values in loc1tile(13,6) equal to the corresponding values of tile(13,6)?Do I have to do it like this?
loc1tile(0,0) = tile (0,0)
loc1tile(0,1) = tile (0,1)
loc1tile(0,2) = tile (0,2)
etc.....

May 29, 2011i am making a game in which the file stream gets a certain file(lets say a.txt) and it reads it, if it has certain values stored in the file it returns boolean(this is a function), then a sub procedure writes to the file using a streamwriter and a filestream using the same file. I am having problems, sometimes visual basic says that another process is using the file, this is before i closed the filestreams and the streamwriter or streamreader, then it gives me errors when i close the files, it tells me that it can't access a file that is already closed, i thought the filestream gets the file and lets the streamreader or streamwriter read or write to the filefound out the problem?

Mar 20, 2011I have a Comma Separated value file in .txt format... simply put, its a bunch of data delimited by commas and text qualifier is separated with ""For example:
"So and so","1234","Blah Blah", "Foo","Bar","","","",""
"foofoo","barbar","etc.."
Where ever there is a carriage return it signifies a new row and every comma separates a new column from another.My next step is to go into VB.net and create an array using these values and having the commas serve as the delimeter and somehow making the array into a table where the text files' format matches the array After that array has been created, I need to select only certain parts of that array and store the value into a variable for later use.... how to make the array and selecting the certain info out of it..

May 16, 2012I'm a huge music person (got my own lil record thing going) but I'm wanting to design a program that would make music in my way. I have a decent amount of background knowlege of Visual Basic and Java I'm just wondering how could I execute this whole project. The Project is making a MPC Sampler. MPC is a drum machine; a machine with buttons that once you press it that it will play a sound from a drum (ex: snare, kick, tom, ect.) . So I would want to make some pads on my program that each have their own sound. Total of 16 pads. Which the design wouldn't be hard to make nor would the functionality of it having the play back sound (in my opinoin it wouldn't be hard atleast). But the thing is I wanna map out these pads to number keys on the number pad or keyboard. I'm not so sure how to do that. But that's all the easy stuff...
Also finding information is making a sound directory. What I mean by this is that I want to make a User Interface that will open up a file directory of sounds and the user can select what "kick" or "snare" sound he may want for the kick or snare pad. I don't know how to do that or even know what to search; neverless I don't know if this whole project idea is a good idea for Visual Basic or another programing language.
Also LATER ON I am wanting to add a record and export function that alows users to..well...record and export their beat or instrumental ha. That doesn't seem too too complex (mainly due to the fact that all it needs to do is record the users key strokes and then show them and play the sounds, but obviously it would get more complex than that.)
