i have been trying to make a program that should restart my server if it crashes. Just some few problems... it won't work.[code]....My problem is that when it notices the program runs, it won't do the process again, and just stop watching for the server crash.

I'm creating a service for a windows 2003 server with exchange installed and need to monitor the user's callender's to get information to store in another program.
How can I make my program watch another process? For example if I open internet explorer it shows the process as iexplore.exe. Now if I wanted to close my program when I closed iexplore.exe how would I do that?

I think this is because of me not creating a thread for the communication(I saw this on another forum), but I dont know how to do that. I copied basically all the chat program code from a site, and I dont know much of sockets and what not.

View 2 RepliesI created a windows application service that runs every 20 seconds to collect data from avaya cms and then dump it into a database. I did this using a timer. Since I had to have access to the clipboard to get the data and parse it, I had to be in STA. Unfortunately,just putting the STA before the Main() (or any other sub) did not keep the service in single thread mode. So I had to create a new thread and join it like so:

I have a simple tcpclient/server messenger running. Everything works great, except for when a client exits the software. When someone exits, is crashes the server with various exceptions and the server has to be restarted, as well as the clients. What I am looking for is a way to properly "log out" a client BUT leave any other connected client on so that is no break in the chat. Then the person that logged out or a new person can join back in whenever they choose.

what I would like to do is create a program that runs in the task bar next to the time. What I want this to do is listen for the key stroke combo of CTRL-ALT-T no matter what program they are in. When they hit this key stroke I want the program to do is hide the task bar on the bottom of the screen. you know how you can change the hight to two rows one row and so on but you can also drag it down so it has no rows and can't see it. Then when they hit CTRL-ALT-T it will then display the task bar with what ever the hight wa set to. Just don't know what direction to go to do this.
View 3 RepliesI have an Access 2007 database that runs constantly, the form on the database basically runs a timer every 10 seconds and runs a Macro. The problem I have is that when the backups run at night the network connection the database is on disconnects for the backup, so the database crashes with the error.
"Your Network Access was interrupted. To continue, close this database, and then open it again."
What I would like to do is create a small VB Application that runs on the machine that the database runs on, detects when the database has a problem, closes down the database process then restarts the database.
Whenever I have an error, the program doesn't crash. It just stop executing code. The error message goes to the debug window (which I can't see until I end the program). If I have a button for example I can still click this and execute the code inside it.
I never thought I'd be asking this, but how do I make my programs crash again?
I realize the program as of now has no output, and that's fine. I have an ofdOpenDialog that I didn't include in this post as it seems kind of irrelevant, that part works fine, browse button to a path, outputs the path in a textbox for the users reference. I have the only user-entered text box set to on change: [code]But when I do this, the program just instantly stops responding. Is that a problem with my code or is the text file it's reading too big? ( Roughly 3-4000 lines.) I read somethign about a buffer once, should I set that larger somehow?

The program has errorhandle and write log function, however, it could not catch the error message in the program.

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong with counters using a delay but it keeps causing my program to crash. I am trying to use a try/catch for a IO exception involving filename already existing. I have a stored procedure that deletes the file from the directory but if my VB code tries to put the same file there it is supposed to encounter my try/catch and run the counter for a pause time until the file is deleted. Well each time it reaches the counter through debugging or not my main program (windows form) just hangs up and becomes unresponsive. I have tried waiting and stepping through/over the try catch but it still remains locked up.

I am working on a project in Visual Basic .NET 2010 on Windows 7 SP1 that previously ran fine in Windows XP SP3 but has recently started crashing immediately upon running the executable. I have made several additions/changes since the last time it was tested on XP, so it is difficult to pinpoint what might be the problem. (I commented out all of the start form's _Load event, which causes the form to load with no events triggered in the IDE, but the program still crashes in XP, so I suspect it's something other than my code, though I don't know what else could have changed to trigger it.)

They are running the exe and at times the program crashes unexpectedly and display the message: "... has encountered a problem and needs to close" I know I should have added code to handle the exception, but is there a way that I can find out which line in the program caused the error? I have a VB.NET 2008 program that crashes about once a month at a customer location. My log file does not include any clues of the crash, the program just dies with the infamous SEND / DONT SEND window.So I need to setup my customers so that in the event of a program crash, a DUMP file is created automatically, without any user intervention. Everything I read on internet indicates that the drwtsn32.exe program does that.

It runs just fine on mine but crashes on everybody else's when I install and run it. To make matters worse, it only gives me the generic "[name here] has encountered a problem and needs to close. i'm using socket programming in vb.net 2005 and make a Server/Client windows application and it used in the network to multi user chat server and havent error and it work , but one BUG in server app : the Server app. work currently until the number of clients more than 30 and then it crashed . and error is "socket.exception" . now tell me what to do ??? it's very very important to me because the number of server's CRASH in on day more than 10 time and i end it and then run again and it's not good for my job .

This code only generates the number 7 and exits the application, each time i click the random button but i want it to show the other number it randomizes too for example 1 2 3 4 .. etc, if u dont understand, please try it, but im trying to say, when i clikc random it just says number 7 (does randomizing in background) and tells you how much tries it took but i want it to show the other number it randomized also and when 7 appears, then exit the program
Had this matter on Xp machine and visual studio 2010 ultimate after windows update between december and january: even the simplest windows form program crash on start when starting for debug (inside Ide, F5) unless putting breakpoints on each line of the autogenerated (and marked as "debugger step thorugh") code.(see: [URL]) I was wondering if this matter affects only Xp machines, or if someone with Seven or Vista had same matter.
View 2 RepliesI'm making a program that would require me to send data between to different machines.The way i plan to do this is to have a server program constantly running on my computer.(any other way to do this?) When someone opens the Client program, the program connects to the server. The server then takes the users I.P address and Username and adds it to a listbox on the Server application. Then the server application constantly updates the list of users on the Client application. So that way every user can see everyone that is connected.Then, when the user wants to connect to another user - They select the Username from their listbox of users. Then all connections will be handled between the users = Each user is connected to the other user's Client program. Well there is the first thing i don't know how to do.The next is simply how i send the data between the users. Would i use a winsock control?Example: One user does an action. The winsock control sends the text "blue" to the other user. The other user's program's form color changes to the color blue. That's not what this program will do, but it's just an example.

After I write my code and try to run the program, the seconds will not start,
I have a field in the database that is XML because it represents a class that is used in C#/VB.Net. Problem is after the initial manipulation most, but not all, of themanipulation is done in SQL Server. This means that the XML field is converted on the fly.As we are getting more fields and more records, this operation is getting slow. I think the slow down is the converting all of those fields to other data types.So to speed it up I was thinking of a couple of ways:Have a set of tables that represent the different pieces of the XML data. I would make these tables read only using a trigger on Insert/Update that would reject any changes. My 'main' table with the XML in it when it updates the XML would turn off the triggers, update the tables with the new values then turn the triggers back on.
The only real reason we use the XML is because it's really easy to convert it to the class in C#/VB.Net. But I'm getting the point where I may end up writing a routine that will take all the bits and pieces and convert it to a class and also a function to go the other way (class -> tables).
