View 3 RepliesI have a utility that is a simple exe that is not installed compiled with VS2005 and works well. But when I upgraded to VS2008 the utility can no longer locate files in the active system folder. I have UAC turned off and am logged in as the Administrator and it still can not locate a file that I can see in Windows Explorer. The file I am looking for is PakMgr.exe.

View 4 RepliesI'm having a problem trying to work out how to watch a folder for changes. This is how far I've got:
Class MainWindow
<PermissionSet(SecurityAction.Demand, Name:="FullTrust")> _
Private Sub Window_Loaded(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As
[Code]....
The problem is when a change occurs in the folder the program exits with no error code. I've read a few related posts and I know it has something to do with thread safety. However I've no idea how to make this program "thread safe".
I am trying to watch files in a directory to determine when files are opened/accessed. I thought FileSystemWatcher would do the trick using the event Changed.
Problem is that some applications do not create a lock on the file they open/access or change either the date modified or date accessed (even after fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess 0). Notepad for example. Apparently is makes a copy of the file in memory and plays with it there until you save it. Nor does it update the Date Accessed.
How can I monitor a directory of files and be notified when a file is simply opened/accessed by any program (e.g. Notepad)? Files may be opened from another computer, not necessarily on the computer running the "watcher".
I have developed a tool to watch a folder using the below thread.

View 1 Repliesi have been trying to make a program that should restart my server if it crashes. Just some few problems... it won't work.[code]....My problem is that when it notices the program runs, it won't do the process again, and just stop watching for the server crash.
View 2 RepliesI have a vb .net application where the user can choose a directory into which an excel file is written. If the user selects a system directory (yes, my users do this, don't ask me why) then a System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException is thrown at runtime. I am handling this exception telling the user to please select another directory.

my problem is that the server (accessed through filezilla) wont allow .exe extensions to be uploaded as a result i have added a .new to the end and that allows it to be uploaded. Thus when i download it i simply remove the .file from the end. That's sorted but my auto updater needs to download folders as well. This is a problem as i cannot add a .file to a folder as it does not govern the filetype. I though of using .zip files but i cannot find an program in windows that can extract it (e.g. through CMD, or if you right click a .zip file in Win7/Vista you get the option to "extract all" i cannot find the root of this application). Also if i try to use a external file extractor i cannot be sure that the remote PC has the same program (e.g. 7zip, winrar, etc..)

View 3 RepliesI'm trying to move a lot of pictures from FOLDER A to another, FOLDER B. However, some of the pictures already exists in the FOLDER B. This stops my program saying it cannot copy the pictures over because they already exist. I'm trying to make it so any pictures from FOLDER A will copy over the pictures in FOLDER B if they are similar in name. Like... Folder A's pictures will just replaced the Folder B pictures if they have the same name. I was told to use the System.IO.File.Copy tool. Here is my code.

I have a Windows 2008 IIS web server that runs an online application. The applications runs on a local SQL database. Images, however, are not stored in the database. The images are stored in a separate folder on the web server. When I run the application on the local LAN, I just use a standard UNC path to access the folder with the images. I want to start running my application over the internet. I can't use UNC paths over the internet.
how can I access this shared folder with my VB.NET program over the internet?
I have literally looked everywhere on the internet and i cannot find a way to check if a folder exists on an FTP server. I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express Edition.

Right now I am using the simple my.computer.network.uploadfile(fileToUpload,mNetLocation, user, pass) to upload my files to the ftp server but nothing I see will create a folder on the ftp server, how can I do this?
I created some directories myself because I can predict what the directory names were going to be, but the other directories need to be created on the fly & are basically random, how can I go about creating the folder I need so I can use the method I already do to upload the files into that folder?I figured maybe it'd work, maybe the FTP server would resolve & add the directory itself when I tried to upload, but instead it failed saying it doesn't exist & forces me to create the directories manually.
I need to access to a server shared folder from a vb.net 2010 program, but the user in the same computer must not be able to access to the same folder. The access to this shared folder must be only permiss trough the program. (The shared folder is on a Windows server 2008 Std). It is possible for example to include user and password in the folder string?[code]...
