I have a form which displays related data from three different tables. There is a foreign key between the master table and the two related. Currently I have three stored procedures to return the data based of the return key value from a search. Because I am using DataAdapters to select and modified the recordsets I need three sepearte datasets. This works great, but I'm sure adds a lot of overhead. In VB 2008 with SQL 2008, is there a way I could use only one stored procedure to accomplish this?

I have a form with multiple DataSets (filled by multiple Stored Procedures) and corresponding DataAdapters. Associated with the DataApters are commands for UPDATE, INSERT......... Before using the DA Update I am using 'If DSxyz.HasChanges(). It seems that when I make a change anywhere on the form affecting 1 dataset, all of the datasets show this to be true. Why should changing one dataset on a form cause all of the datasets to show changes?
DataReaders are read-only forward-only but DataAdapters have their own insert, update, delete and update command.then how to use the insert command of the DataAdapters?
I'm creating a database installer where I have some code to create database, tables, stored procedures, etc.I don't have problems when creating the database, tables and inserting required data. My problem is when my code gets to the stored procedures section.
Here is what I do:I have different text files (database.txt, tables.txt, insertdata.txt, storeprocedures.txt) where my sql syntax is located.I execute every process/text file using the following:
ExecuteSql("master", GetSql("database.txt")) ' Creating 1 database. ExecuteSql("mynewdatabase", GetSql("tables.txt")) ' Creating 15 tables. ExecuteSql("mynewdatabase", GetSql("insertdata.txt")) ' Inserting data to many tables. ExecuteSql("mynewdatabase", GetSql("storeprocedures.txt")) ' Creating 6 stored procedures.
Here is part of the error:In exception handler: Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'PROCEDURE'. "This is the second stored procedure because the variables I get below belong to the second one"
Must declare the scalar variable "@intVariable1". Must declare the scalar variable "@intVariable1". Must declare the scalar variable "@intVariable1". Must declare the scalar variable "@intVariable1".
When trying to create 6 or even 2 stored procedures using the same file 'storeprocedures.txt' is not possible. If I leave just 1 it works but I really want to keep them together.
Creating 15 tables using the same file 'tables.txt' works, inserting data in different tables using the same file 'insertdata.txt' works. This is the general syntax I use:
Create Procedure sp_stored1 @intVariablex int As
[code].....
Is is possible to create more than 1 stored procedure the way I'm trying to?Do I need to end every stored procedure with specific sql syntax, other than the 'end'?
i get an "This SqlTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable." error everytime i run my code:
the main code
If DBOpen() = True Then Try 'begin transaction
[Code].....
i specified the transaction of sqlcommand named cmd via the Public Sub BeginTranscation. but, is this correct?
also, the error points to the Public Sub RollbackTransaction if the insert to the stored procedure fails. : "This SqlTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable."
how can i perform multiple stored procedure calls within a single transaction correctly?
I have an encrypted SQL Server stored proc that I run with (or the vb .net equivalent code of):[code]this returns 2 datasets and the output parameters for the results, the datasets are made up of various table joins etc, one holds the header record and one the detail records.I need to get the 2 datasets into a structure in VB .net (e.g. linq, sqldatareader, typed datasets) so that I can code with them, I don't know what tables any of this comes from and there are alot of them Whooopeee...I came close using Linq to SQL and IMultipleResults but got frustrated when I had to recode it every time I made a change to the designer file.
This is my main table structure:The expertise column is a many to many relationship with another table that has a list of available languages.I wanted to have a flattened structure to display all the languages that a person expertise's, so I wrote a stored procedure that stringifies those multiple expertises to fit for each user. When I called this sp from my wpf application, its not showing the values. I tried the 'preview data' from object browser which showed only one row of my table.
(Expected result: What is the problem with my approach?
my Sp:
create procedure myView as Begin DECLARE @count INT,@finCount INT,@result varchar(50)[code].....
There is a .Net executable (with a group of DLL's etc) that up to 100 people will be using simulatiously during the course of the day. Is it still acceptable/good practice to have all the users just have a shortcut to the network path for this executable? Or would it be better to copy the .exe, .dll's, etc locally to each users machine?
I'm doing a project in database development which requires to use a list box that will populate from a SQL Server database.I'm confused on setting up the listbox to have multiple columns that will be populated from a stored procedure within SQL.I drag and drop the listbox onto the form, size it, change it's property to multi-column, set column width to 10, but don't know what to do next. The listbox on the form design doesn't show multi-columns.
My experience with Stored Procedures is limited and I'm hoping this will solve my payroll problems. Further, for what I'm attempting to accomplish a Stored Procedure may not be the best answer.I'm attempting a Payroll function in which the goal of the Stored Procedure is to fetch the data for a given Payroll Period, do math on the first returned employee, output a calculated result, then move to the next. Let me explain a bit more...Based on a Pay Period ID which is given to the Stored Procedure, I would like it to do the following:Select the employee in that period, add a total of his hours worked, then add that employees total commissions, whichever amount is greater - return that value (along with the totals - such as the total hours and total commission) - then move to the next employee until completed.
Need to design a program that can encrypt and decrypt messages stored in simple text files using a private key stored in a separate file. Software should also be able to allow the users to enter simple messages that either displays the encrypted or decrypted message. The encryption method should use a simple substitution method. It should be set out in the following format:
Example (the "@" is the separator):
@ The character The Code End of line A @ 4gh EOL B @ 84!9 EOL
Has to use the 256 ASCII character codes. The separator will be used to separate the character and its corresponding code. Here are the pseudocodes I have come up with:
 Read any private key file separator = readline(file); while not EOF(file) do tempStr = readline(file);
I have a stored procedure to update a table, but needs a couple of values from another table.
the first two selects get the value from the table and then are used in the update statement.
The select statments:
Select @iStatusDropDownValueID = iDropDownValueID From DropDownValue Inner Join DropDownValueType On DropDownValue.iDropDownValueTypeID =
[Code].....
First, the values that are retrieved by the first two select statements are always the same. So they could be passed in by the code itself. I don't know that this will speed things up at all, just make the entire stored procedure better and easier to read.
Second, if the "Value Name" should change this store procedure will break (which is possible, but not often).
I am looking for any insight into the Best Practices for this situation.
I have a question regarding the dataset usage in Reporting Services. I have a stored procedure which returns multiple select statements (result tables), and I created a Dataset in Reporting Services 2005 with this stored procedure. The problem is that I can not reference the second or third result table, and I can only use the first select statement fields. Is this the limitation on Reporting Services Dataset or is there a way to use multiple table results in one dataset?
I have a website that has highly granulised access and hence requires many web.config files. The problem is I would like to trim the menu so that only certain users will have access to certain folders. I have enabled trimming and setup roles in the sitemap, however when I access the page the menu is not show, as I am authorized to view the default page which is not in a subfolder. When I type the url of a page in sub folder's I have access.
How should I handle this:
A site map for each web.config file - don't know how this will work Removing the sub web.config file to only use a single one
I have been struggling to find a solution for this problem. What I need to do is build a server application that accepts tcp client requests from different clients running on same port say:1003. I experimented by using asynchronous mode call backs etc. but it disconnects once connection is established and does not respond for further requests from the same client.
Iam wanting touse sendinput in a dos or background type app (can be a regular app thats hidden) that emulates mouse clicks and sends mouse moves to another multimouse application. an project that im working on for my school i work at and i need to send the input to it. The overview of the project is i need to have this code be in a service that runs in the background that when a person does a gesture with my kinect code then it clicks the left mouse or sythesis it with sendinput (need mouse up and down sent for this to work). The end programs that receive input are: a program written in the multipoint sdk and mouse mischief. I though about using the default usb mouse driver as an emulated mouse driver to handle the part about creating a usb mouse device that works since most newer computers are using usb.
I have a vb.net web application and when a particular function runs , i get data timeouts in the rest of the application..(ie..row not found errors or column does not belong to table but it does) The function is adding multiple rows in multiple tables in the database and is running in a for loop. It seems to be all SQL related but I am not seeing anything in the error logs in SQL or in the application Right now I am assuming it is memory related where to start note..the for loop will be replaced with a bulk insert but right now I jest need to resolve the issue of the timeouts
I am attempting to fill a form with multiple rows from an access table based off of a parameterized query. My query works fine but I don't want to return one row at a time, I want to return all rows that match my query in multiple text boxes. I know that I can use a datagrid view to accomplish this, but I would prefer the look of a textboxes on a form. I have read through many books and searched the internet forums but think I may just not know what to search for as nothing has worked yet. Can anyone point me in the right direction. So far I have tried setting the text box value to the row().item(), creating a different dataset for each row, and even setting variables for the results of the query to then be passed to the text boxes. Since none of this work, I don't really have any starting code to post. If I could just get a starting point I could work from there, so don't feel the need to code anything for me, just set me in the right direction.
I am trying to list all printers (PrintersConnections) under all users (HKEY_USERS)
problem is I dont know the user name keys in advance and need to exclude .DEFAULT and *_CLASSES so first I need to list all key names (%usernamekey%) directly under HKEY_USERS then for all keys that lists lsit all keys under HKEY_USERS\%usernamekey%PrintersConnections
Here is the code I have so far but I get errors about object variable not set, I suspect because of the way I doing the for each and listing the key names and then doing it again
Code: Private Sub DetectPrntrs() Try Dim RemReg As Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey
I am making an application that uses multiple WebBrowser controls, and multiple proxies. The code for changing the proxy settings are as such:
#Region "Proxy" Public Structure Struct_INTERNET_PROXY_INFO Public dwAccessType As Integer Public proxy As IntPtr
[code]....
Note: getRandomProxy gets a random proxy from a list.Problem is that whenever RefreshIESettings(getRandomProxy()) is applied, the proxy will be applied to all of the WebBrowsers, while i would need to have a unique proxy for each WebBrowser. Not having this would just error out the page in the other browsers and so on.
i have a big problem here when i want to insert 6 data into 6 different row in 1 click. in field @ form it have name, staff no.,items, quantity and date. We can select 6 items to insert which i use ComboBox for save the data in form. In this case, each name can choose 6 items in one time and i want to save it in database just in 1 click. that mean it will put a same name in 6 rows in a table. the look like this but it not complete...
My question is, imagine I have two List(Of T) objects and a subroutine in a multithreaded environment that modifies both of these objects. I don't understand locks very well, so I'm unsure whether I can just do:
