VS 2008 Changing Bound Data When Entering Text In ComboBox?

Aug 9, 2009

I have a data-bound combobox that pulls values from a BindingList(of T). Combobox loads fine, correct values are displayed (I'm not using SelectedItem or SelectedValue). I'm using properties and connecting the data to the control via a bindingsource.

What I want is if the user types text into the combobox, I want the data from the bound table to change to that new text, i.e. edit the bound data directly.

Easy as pie to do with a textbox, but can't seem to get a combobox to work this way.

I was trying to use the validated event of the combobox to write the data to the datasource, but it doesn't fire when I press enter. Is that the way to do it? Can I not link the data to the combobox directly?

.Net 2003 Bound Control Insert?

Oct 16, 2009

I have a very simple app that just opens an SQL table using an OLEDB data adapter and binding that to a DataGridView control.I have a button control that simply calls the update method of the data adapter.I have added code for Update, Insert and Delete for the dataadapters update method to use.The table the I am playing with has 10 columns, and the update is working correctly. When I go to add a row to the datagridview and move off of the added row then click the update button, I get an error stating that there was no value given for one or more parameters. This is actually the case, I checked the insertcommand paratemers and all 10 of them have "Nothing" for the value property.I will provide code if necessary, but what would cause the parameters to not be populated with the values from the datagridview control for the insert?

Filtering Bound Controls Based On Another Control?

Oct 15, 2010

I have a form with some textboxes on it. The textboxes show values from a table. I have a binding navigator that lets you step through the records in the table and the textboxes update. What I want, is to have a control, say a listbox, that allows you to select a value which will filter the data behind the controls so that you only have one record.

So, for example, say you have a table of contacts. There are textboxes on your form that show name, phone, address etc. You could then have a listbox that showed a list of all the contacts and you could select one, which would in turn the textboxes. The filtering field could be contactID for example.

VS 2008 Bound DataRepeater With Unbound CheckBox Control?

Mar 28, 2011

I'm seriously about to abandon this DataRepeater. I don't want to. I want greater design control than the DataGridView. I've played with various Events for days and have settled on the CheckBox.CheckChanged Event.

What I'm trying to accomplish: My Bound DataRepeater has an UnBound CheckBox in each DataRepeaterItem. When the user 'Checks' the CheckBox, I want to change the value of a NumericUpDown Control to the value of a hidden, Bound Label.

[Code]...

This causes other, seemingly random, DataRepeaterItems (Rows) to also become Checked and thus it's NumericUpDown value to change.Am I going about this from the wrong angle? Can't see the forest for the trees?

Responding To A WPF Click Event In A Data-bound User Control?

Oct 15, 2009

I have created several WPF User Controls. The lowest level item is 'PostItNote.xaml'. Next, I have a 'NotesGroup.xaml' file that has an ItemsControl bound to a List of PostItNotes. Above that, I have a 'ProgrammerControl.xaml' file. Each ProgrammerControl has a grid with four different NotesGroup user controls on it (and each NotesGroup contains 0-many PostItNotes.

Then, I have my main window. It also has an ItemsControl, bound to a list of Programmers.

So, you end up with a high level visual view of a list of programmers, each programmer has four groups of tickets, each group of tickets has many PostItNotes.

The trouble I'm having, is that I want to respond to a mouse click event in my mainWindow's code behind file.

I can add a MouseClick event into my PostItNote.xaml.vb file and that is getting called when the user clicks a PostItNote, and I can re-raise the event; but I can't seem to get the NotesGroup to listen for that event. I'm not sure if that's even the correct approach.

When the user clicks the PostItNote, I'm going to do a bunch of business-logic type stuff that the PostItNote control doesn't have a reference to/doesn't know about it.

App. To Create An Control Array At Runtime That Will Consist Of Up To 50 Data Bound Labels

Mar 13, 2010

I need my app. to Create an Control Array at runtime that will consist of up to 50 Data Bound Labels. The app. will first be checking the 1st database field (Ing1) to see if there is data, if so then only create the 1st Data Bound Label (lblIng1) and then check the next field and so on.

The problem is that VB 2008 dos not seem to support Control Arrays. There must be another way to work around this.

Receive Upper Bound And Lower Bound Of A Range

Sep 20, 2010

Is there anyone who can tell me the code for the below? Receive a lower bound and an upper bound of a range. Also receive a number of random numbers to generate. You must validate

1) the numbers are integers
2) the lower bound is less than or equal to the upper bound
3) the number to generate is positive (i.e., > 0).

Generate this many numbers in the specified range and keep track of how many of each are generated in an array of counters. Once all the numbers have been generated, display in a List Box the number, the raw count data, and the percentage of how many times the number was generated displayed with two decimal places of precision.

Changing A String To A Control?

Dec 1, 2010

I am reasonable new to programing and have ventured in to using VB.net after creating macro's etc in excel, as this seemed to be the easiest transition into the world of programing.I am creating a application to work with an access database and before I submit the forms textboxs to the database, I check to make sure each field is filled in and if it isn't then I highlight the field by changing the label back colour to orangered.

What I have is a bunch of textboxes and a label above each saying what the field is. so for example the textbox name is txtBox1 and its label is lblBox1, txtBox2 - lblBox2 and so on.So what I thought I would try and do is, as the user leaves the txtBox after editing, the label background colour would be changed back to transparent.

As I have multiple txtbox's I thought I could do this using sender to get the name of the txtBox on leave, strip the first 3 letters txt and change them for lbl cast it as a label, then change the background color but I cant seem to convert my string to a label control. can someone help me with what am i missing or not doing.

Forms :: Changing Look Of Tab Control

Sep 17, 2009

I'm quite new at this but I'm trying to change the look of a tab control other than the options provided in the control's properties. In short I want to create a large tab that will fit a picture but I don't know how to change the size of the tab. I also want to make the control look somewhat different than what the control provided with VS.NET looks like.

What I need to know is how to create a custom control that operates the same as tabcontrol but looks different than the traditional control provided with VS. I tried looking up how to create a custom control but all I could find was how to create one programatically and I don't know how it would apply to a tab control. Maybe the only way to do it is programmatically but I would rather play with the control in the designer than having it appear only at runtime.

IDE :: VS 2008 - Controls - Changing The Look Of The Control?

Oct 26, 2010

I'm trying to change the look of some controls in VB.An example would be a button, I now have a stack of 4 images on top of eachother. By using the mouseover events and such, I get the same result as a normal button. However, I'd like to be able to insert those images into a normal button like thing.

I know it's possible to do this by creating a custom control, but that'd end up with the exact same code, just in a different file.

However, the real issue would be a dropdown box and slidebar. I'd like to get them to look nice with my theme. (Background, buttons, borders. Things like that..). I got absolutely no clue on how I should do that.

I know that there's a tool to create controls, but that's from scratch and I can't get a grip on it, at all.

Changing A Control's Properties In A Threaded VB Application?

May 11, 2011

I am running into an issue with changing properties of controls on a VB.net project that I am working on. The portion of code that I am having trouble with is re-enabling a couple of buttons and a ComboBox after a Threaded operation completes. The point of it is to disable the buttons after clicking the main "run process" type of button (called cmdCrawlSearch) so that the process can run on a new thread while the form is updated with the status. I was able to learn about Thread Safe calls using delegates in order to update the Text property of the TextBox (txtOutput) on the form, and thought that enabling buttons would be just as easy, but when I am trying, I am either getting an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" exception, or an "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation" exception (from the current version of code) with the InnerException being the Object reference exception. I am posting the portions of code related to the issue, then below it is the InnerException name and stack trace. Perhaps I am not using the Delegates correctly (since I still do not fully understand what can and can't be done using a Delegate.) Or there is a better way to do this.
