Jun 8, 2011I am getting an error while fetching the records from sql server to datagridview. Ex. I have 10 rows in datagridview first five are with one table and next five for another table. When loop goes for next table it throws an error like "timeout expired. the timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. The statement has been terminated."

VS 2010 - ThreadPool And SqlConnection Pooling - Error: Timeout Expired
Jul 21, 2010I am working on uses the ThreadPool class and specifically the QueueUserWorkItem method to launch its background tasks. I am however having an issue related to SqlConnection timeouts. My error is this: "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached."
This code is using all available ThreadPool threads because it is processing nearly 100,000 items, each on a threadpool thread, and updating an SQL database. So my question is this? Has anyone ran into a similar problem or could shed some light on a resolution to this issue? In testing, if I use the threadpool. setmaxthreads function and give it a value of 100 (to match the default Sql connection pooling count) then all runs just fine, but much to slow to process this much data.

May 19, 2010My application requires a user to log in and allows them to edit a list of things. However, it seems that if the same user always logs in and out and edits the list, this user will run into a "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired." error. I've read a comment about it possibly caused by uncommitted transactions. And I do have one going in the application.

Jul 5, 2011I have an application using taskfactory that creates multiple tasks which insert records into the same table in a database. I have jobs that cleanup the table when it gets too large and have the execution time-out set to 0 in options in sql server management studio. I keep getting the following error on the tasks when trying to do an insert using a stored procedure and set an exception handling process to sleep and try again. This does not help as it seems it timeouts on almost every attempt.Not sure how to handle this and ensure the table handles all these inserts. Tried including connect timeout = 600 in one of the processes connectionstring but this did not help.Also set sqlquerytimeout value in registry to 90 but still not helping.

could not see the details of the error since visual studio 2010 debug options had to be set that way, but I will set a responsestream and capture but I rebooted sql server and somehow everything is fine now...not sure why.

Doing Work In Separate Thread To Prevent Form From Hanging
May 9, 2011I have a really simple form with a button that fires a Sub I created which gathers data from ActiveDirectory and adds it to an Excel Sheet. The problem is, when I click this button the whole form hangs. So I figured the operation that gathers the data and adding it to the Excel sheet should be run in it's own thread, so that the form won't hang. Possibly it would be great to add a progressbar as well. The progressbar however is located at the Main userform that starts up once the projects is run.
I've got one MainForm.vb and one CodeFile.vb. I want most of the code in the CodeFile.vb so it's tidier.

Notice the ExportFromAD Sub I've got in the CodeFile.vb. This is what is actually doing the work. In the For each loop that adds data to the Excel is where I've put the MainForm.MyBackgroundWorker.ReportProgress(i * 10). Problem is, it doesn't actually update the label on the form. Which I find pretty weird because the form isn't really hanging or anything. Is it trying to access a different thread or something? Meaning, the form is run on it's own thread which can't be accessed from my second thread?
C# - Prevent System.Timers.Timer From Queuing For Execution On A Thread Pool?
Feb 2, 2011There is a problem with standard System.Timers.Timer behaviour. The timer raise Elapsed event with some interval. But when time of execution inside Elapsed event handler exceed timer interval then thread pool begin queuing event handling. This is a problem in my case. This is because with my Elapsed event handler I fetch some data from database and doing something with it and finally save results back to database. But data handling should be provided only once. So, is there a way to prevent from queuing elapse events for System.Timers.Timer.

SMTP Timeout Error?
Jun 11, 2011I am using VB 2010 on a Windows 7 Home Premium PC. I can't get my my smtp code to send an email out. It always comes back with the error:"The operation has timed out"I have both a Google Mail account and a Sky Mail account both of which use the same port but can't get either to work. I have checked my firewall and the smtp port 465 is allowed and I can see the process going through the firewall.I know the mail works fine as I am using Windows Live Mail which sends and receives no problem. Jun 6, 2011I am in a trouble with this error:"An attempt has been made to free an RCW that is in use. The RCW is in use on the active thread or another thread. Attempting to free an in-use RCW can cause corruption or data loss." I am not sure if the RCW-error is related to my problem but I was having this error last January 25. It appears when I am ending my application. I ignored it. The next morning when I resumed coding for my application, the changes I am making does not appear at run-time anymore. Whatever GUI changes I make in my application (at design time), it does not make any effect any longer when I am running the application. What is causing this? I am so afraid if I have to restart my application from the scratch. I have gone far.

Jun 1, 2011I am having some problems in my app for the database timeout. Due to some network glitches the query takes more than 45 sec to return the resultset which has about 10,000 rows. Most of the time its fast upto 11-12 secs. My app is runs as a scheduled job in the background.The problem is I need to try three times if i get the timeout exception before writing the error to the error log or exiting. I know i can set the command timeout property to 60 seconds but still i want to try three times before exiting. I have written a method for that but I think there is some flaw in my method. For now i specifically set the timeout to be 5 seconds as i know well that it takes more than 25 seconds for this stored proc to run. I just want to get that timeout expired exception and write ways to handle it.
My problem is if after 2 times I set the connection timeout to 50 so my method goes and get the correct list but it again goes inside the methodname which i have called inside the catch statement and finally returns nothing. It looks like its getting into recursion or something but i am confused as to where i am wrong.[code]
