I am trying to automate a program using Visual BAsic.NET. The idea is to invoke my "Program" at the click of a button, pass inputs to the program and save the results it would generate. For now I can invoke my program using VisualBasic.NET(comands: shell, appactivate), I can pass in data to the program( My.Computer.Keyboard.SendKeys("a")),( just that it is broken).
the main problem is that the data to be input goes into a form with multiple tabs and I am not able to figure out the best way to select the correct tab so that I can throw my data in there and get to the results Also is this program has a dll( obviously I am new to windows application programming), is there any way i can directly pass data to the dll and get results?
I'd like Visual Basic .net (2008) to control another program using OLE automation but I read somewhere in the net (link below) that it's not available in VB .net. How to use VB .net to control that program? The company that own the program stated that it can only be controlled using OLE automation and they made available some functions to do that.
here is what is going on. I am trying to make an automation program. I need to launch some other applications. I would like to run this program from a CD or a thumb drive, where the path name may not be the same every time the program is run. I know that App.Path is not used in .NET. Here is a clip of code.
Public Class frmStart Dim AppPath As String Private Sub frmStart_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
I have a program that will process the files and produce the result in output file. When i publish and install the software in xp windows it run but in windows vista it read the file everything when i look for output file. The file is not created in vista. But other program which similar with previous one can run in windows vista expect one program. This is how i write the coding to create the file.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim OpenFileDialog1 As New OpenFileDialog With OpenFileDialog1
[code]....
I dont know why it can not create a file in vista?
I am trying to write a program using the API for SolidWorks in .NET. My first problem is setting 'set swApp = Application.sldworks', the last line of code.It is my understanding that this is simply defined as an installed application on my system (which it is), and does not even use the SolidWorks API to accomplish. Though this syntax is used in many VB6 options, i am getting a syntax error.I have tried it without the 'Set' in front, no help there.

Currently developing an automation tool to test new desktop OS builds at work. Need to be able to open menu items on toolbarwindow32 windows (main menu of explorer windows). Now this requires retrieving information of all the buttons on the toolbar, obtaining the button ID of desired menu and sending a WM_COMMAND message with the ID. I'm having trouble retrieving button information. Now im using openprocess, virtualallocex to allocate virtual memory in the target process, and then sending the TB_GETBUTTON message with a pointer to the allocated memory then reading out the result. Allocation and the send message works fine but reading the processmemory back out is failing but not returning an error code, getlastwin32error returns nothing either.
<StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)> _ Public Structure TBBUTTON Public iBitmap As Integer[code]....
As mentioned above, the read process memoery call fails, the return value is -1 The documentation states it returns 0 for fail, non zero for pass. Wondering if the problem lies in incorrect use of types in pinvoke calls or the struct tbbutton is incorrect, or my use of a pinned pointer is wrong,or whether I need to use adjusttokenpriviledges to ensure I have rights.Though I'm running under admin and examples similar to this don't use it.

I want to create several folders on a specified drive, some are up to 3 levels deep such as x:users\%username%Documents
%username% would be a folder created after the users actual user name
What I would like to be able to do is create these folders for each username that resides on computer including the "default user" however the rest of the built in windows accounts I do not need to do this with.
I then want to change the registry setting under each user, for example these two keys (their are more keys however but they all follow this except for the last part of the key where instead of personal it would be named videos or something):
specifically this value needs to change "C:UsersTest UserDocuments" and this one "%USERPROFILE%Documents"
However it is my understanding that this key is specific to each user based on the S-1-5-21-999999999999-999999999999 number which I believe is referred to a GUID.
I know how to create a folder, I know how to change other registry settings that have integers but I am stumped on this.
I'm trying to create an application in VB.net that can come to the front once a certain condition occurs (in this case, a file being created). I've tried the following code, but it just results in the taskbar button blinking on Windows 7:
Me.Activate()
I understand the reason for this, and I completely understand why people don't want any random application to steal focus (I hate it too). This is an extremely limited use application (only 3 computers will actually be using it), and the users in this case would want the application to popup in front (there will be an option to turn it off too).
Any ideas if this is still possible to do on Windows 7?
I used this code to make my program to startup with windows it should add a registry entry:
Dim key As Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey key = Microsoft.Win32.Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey("SOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun", True) key.SetValue("MyApp", Application.ExecutablePath)
The problem is that it underline KEY and say declaration expected but shouldn't dim do the job for the declaration.
i want to design a new program that should start with windows and its icon should appear at the toolbar the idea is when i click on the icon a rectangular forum should appear. my question is that: what is the best tool or control should i use? should i use the blank project of windows application or there is special project for that.

I have written an automation addin in Excel with C# (addin.dll). To use the addin, I need to 1. register it using "regasm /codebase c:...addin.dll"2. select in ExcelOptionsAddInsExcel AddinsAutomation the respective addin from the list
I would like to automatize 1) and 2), so that the user just needs to run an exe-file in order to use the addin. 1) should be no problem, but how can one automatize 2)?
Ok basically what I need to do is the following:Read FirstExcelDoc (attached)For every row in that: Retrieve data from sql server db based on info in the Orange columns of FirstExcelDoc Let's say I retrieved data elements A, B, C, D, and E from sql server. Then I need to enter those same data elements A, B, and C in another excel spreadsheet (which has formulas etc) After inputing A, B, and C in that spreadsheet, read a couple of calculated fields and compare those results to data elements D and E retrieved originally from SQL Server DB. Finally, output the results in the Blue columns of the FirstExcelDoc spreadsheet for that row.Loop through and do the same thing for row 2 of the FirstExcelDoc and keep on until you see "END TEST" in the FirstExcelDoc.
I'm looking for a method of doing this efficiently. I have read several articles over the past few days as well as those from Mike R. but just need some direction to get started on this.To start of I'm looking for whether to read the entire FirstExcelDoc spreadsheet or just read the info for first policy number(2nd row) and process it and write out the blue column info for that row and then loop through and come back and read the second policy number (3rd row) etc... Please attach a code snippet for either way of reading the data.
I'm using excel via interop in application.Sometimes users kill application that created excel instance and that results in excel instance sitting in memory without any chance of disposing it.First I tried to tackle this using ROT(running object table) looks like not all instances of excel are registered there.Than I tried to somehow mark excel process after it is started via interop.[code]This works as long as excel is visible but in my case excel window is invisible. All I need is to somehow mark process that started via automation with the parent PID, so that later I can kill it if parent does not exist.
I have successfully automated a PowerPoint Metrics presentation with VB.Net. However, since there were many complicated calculations, it took quite some time to make the 120+ slide presentation - so I recently tried to revamp the application to be multi-threaded.
I've got VS2008 and Office2010, but I don't have Office2007. Therefore, I have the Word14 Object Library but not the Word12 Object Library. Will the code that I create for Office2010 automation also work where clients only have Office2007 or will they have to upgrade their office suites?
I have a program that at one point will open word and export some info. That works perfect, however I have just noticed each day I have a number of winwords open (can only see them in task manager so they are hidden). It appears that everytime I start the program it opens a hidden winword session. It has nothing to do with the code I have on the form, it opens before any code I have written is executed.
We have a vb program which is run on our server by scheduled task every day. The program opens about 30 excel files, refreshes the data connections, pivot tables and then saves the document in another location.
This may run fine for a couple days but sooner or later the process starts crashing, usually with this error: RPC_E_SERVERFAULT.
My question is, Is it expected that continually opening/closing/refreshing workbooks will inevitably cause the Excel object to crash at some point.
I'm getting a really strange error. I have a program that needs to run a thread on startup, and for some reason when I do myThread.Start() in Form1() it will crash with "program is not working" (But only on Windows Server, not on my local machine!). However, if I put the same code under button1_Start() it works no problem. What gives?
EDIT A little extra information: In my thread I have a line of code that uses invoke
And for some reason the crashing goes away after I make the thread sleep for 2 seconds before it starts executing. Am I using the right method to execute code on the app startup?
How do you create custom chrome for a windows form in vb.net using Visual Basic 2008 express? I want to basically scrap what they give and start fresh.
