Aug 23, 2011I was creating an mvc application and i had a model class with a dbcontext function the variables were in the same file. I added another field and changed the code in the edit create delete details and index views but i now get an error saying "The model backing the 'GameDBContext' context has changed since the database was created. Either manually delete/update the database, or call Database.SetInitializer with an IDatabaseInitializer instance. For example, the DropCreateDatabaseIfModelChanges strategy will automatically delete and recreate the database, and optionally seed it with new data."

Mar 15, 2009How do you refresh a database connection within a VB application to SQL Server 2005 so that whenever data is changed in SQL, such changes are picked up by the application? For now the application only picks up the changes after it has been restarted, and that is not what I want.

Nov 5, 2008I'm using VBE 2008, with .NET 3.5 SP1, and I am trying to programmatically manage a database. Here are the steps I used so far:
1. Project >> Add New >> Local Database >> Cancel Button.
2. Added a table (Files) with three fields (File Path, File Name, and File Type).
3. Went into Data Sources, did Add New Data Source and followed the wizard to add it as a dataset.
I'm not entirely sure where to go from here. I'd like to be able to use queries on this thing, but I don't want to have to use SQL to add to it and such. I've made a little headway in the code, but it's really frustrating because VBA Access was SOOOO much easier to do this kind of thing in. This is what I have for code:

Feb 8, 2010I have a datagrid view containing a customer list that if if double click on a row it brings up a customer maintenance window. Once I hit a save bottom on the second form how can I automatically update the database, refresh the grid on the initial window but remain on the same row on form1 that I double clicked on in the first place. Currently I am re-loading the datagrid on the initial form with all the data once I close the second window down.

And, i calling these report from VB. net application with a config.ini define my server & DB . Recently,i hv clone the same reports but extract from different server & Database name (Server=Srv2,DB=Pub2, the tables & fields are still same ) i have created a config.ini which contain my server, database, uid & pwd. And, when i execute these cloned report , they still point back to the origin server which was server=SRV1, DB=Pub1.

Can't Delete SQLCE Database Programmatically Because It Is Locked By Another Process
Oct 24, 2011I am having some issues with an application written in VB.net.
As part of a routine, an sqlce database gets backed up before the routine then if an error occurred gets restored. I am using system.io methods copy and delete.
I have released all the objects (connections, commands, datareaders) asscociated with the sqlce database by disposing them if they are not nothing. I also do a GC.COLLECT however when my delete command runs, an error message says it is open by another process. The PROCEXP.exe process explorer tool says it is attached to 4 undefined processes. After a while in debug mode, these clear and I am able to delete the file. However this is not acceptable as my program cannot "wait around" until they are released! I was under the impression that object.dispose forced an immediate disposal rather than waiting for the garbage collector to clean up (if you were just to use object=nothing), but still there appears to be a finite time before these objects are released.
My question is, is there an alternative way of checking (programatically in vb) for what is holding open an sqlce database (or in fact any other file for that matter) then killing these processes?

I read the best practice when sending the data out to users this is the best way.But I haven't found anything on it. Or is it best to create it and send it out with the program? Jan 30, 2010I have a MS Access database set up, with a Period field that has either values 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. I retrieve these values using a database connection and I would like to reference a particular control based on what period was grabbed from the database.
Here's example code, pseudo of course.
TextBox(dr(3)).Text = dr(0)
dr(3) contains the period, and dr(0) contains the content I would like to put into the text box. I have these text boxes on my form: TextBox1, TextBox2, TextBox3, TextBox4 and TextBox5.
So if dr(3) contained 2 then I would want to reference TextBox2.

Forms :: Chart (Series Colors, Graph Refresh On Timer, Etc) Application That Ties Into A SQL Database On The Back End
Dec 29, 2011I am working on an application that ties into a SQL database on the back end. Currently the main form contains a series of combo boxes (Graph type, data format, location, and customer), two date pickers, and a button to launch the selections in a new form. Everything works just fine except there are a couple of things I can't seem to accomplish.

1) I would like to be able to use some sort of case statement to color the bars in my chart based on value. I have tried approaching this in a couple of different ways but neither of the options seem to work. First, I tried this (the If Not is used because depending on what values are passed to the stored procedure in SQL, different columns will be returned):

Only one series is created with this method, so I can see how/why a Select Case would set all bars the same color. I have also tried creating a series for each row in the returned dataset but it results in 22 bars of different colors, for each of the rows (484 bars):

So is there any way to modify the second set of code there to only select the value from the "Percent TMHB" cell that corresponds with Row(i), rather than ALL values from the "Percent TMHB" column for EACH Row(i)?
2) Since I am drawing/creating these graphs in a new window, is there any way to also create a new timer on the "newFrm" and have the tick refresh the data? I've struggled with this but I feel like it should be easy. Say someone chooses a "TMHB", "Percentage", "Chicago", "All" (Graph type, data format, location, customer) and launches the graph, which opens in a new window, then they want to do "TMHB", "Percentage", "LA", "All" and have both windows up, refreshing automatically throughout the day. Can I somehow store the SelectCommand.Parameters values in the new form/timer so that it will query the database again every 5 minutes?
