I have set my TableAdapters as needed and bound the correct tables-columns to my comboboxes.My problem though is this:My combobox2 item is bound to a datatable. I was creating an mvc application and i had a model class with a dbcontext function the variables were in the same file. I added another field and changed the code in the edit create delete details and index views but i now get an error saying "The model backing the 'GameDBContext' context has changed since the database was created. Either manually delete/update the database, or call Database.SetInitializer with an IDatabaseInitializer instance. For example, the DropCreateDatabaseIfModelChanges strategy will automatically delete and recreate the database, and optionally seed it with new data."

How do you refresh a database connection within a VB application to SQL Server 2005 so that whenever data is changed in SQL, such changes are picked up by the application? For now the application only picks up the changes after it has been restarted, and that is not what I want.

i am using a listview on my admin form to see those who are logged in. so i have a table which captures users logging in and logging out. this table data is reflected onto this listview. but i want the listview to refresh itself as soon as the user has logged out. this way the admin doesn't have to keep pressing refresh.so i want to know if there is way to refresh the listview on database update.

Once I hit a save bottom on the second form how can I automatically update the database, refresh the grid on the initial window but remain on the same row on form1 that I double clicked on in the first place. Currently the main form contains a series of combo boxes (Graph type, data format, location, and customer), two date pickers, and a button to launch the selections in a new form. Everything works just fine except there are a couple of things I can't seem to accomplish.

1) I would like to be able to use some sort of case statement to color the bars in my chart based on value. I have tried approaching this in a couple of different ways but neither of the options seem to work. First, I tried this (the If Not is used because depending on what values are passed to the stored procedure in SQL, different columns will be returned):

Only one series is created with this method, so I can see how/why a Select Case would set all bars the same color. I have also tried creating a series for each row in the returned dataset but it results in 22 bars of different colors, for each of the rows (484 bars):

So is there any way to modify the second set of code there to only select the value from the "Percent TMHB" cell that corresponds with Row(i), rather than ALL values from the "Percent TMHB" column for EACH Row(i)?
2) Since I am drawing/creating these graphs in a new window, is there any way to also create a new timer on the "newFrm" and have the tick refresh the data? I've struggled with this but I feel like it should be easy. Say someone chooses a "TMHB", "Percentage", "Chicago", "All" (Graph type, data format, location, customer) and launches the graph, which opens in a new window, then they want to do "TMHB", "Percentage", "LA", "All" and have both windows up, refreshing automatically throughout the day. Can I somehow store the SelectCommand.Parameters values in the new form/timer so that it will query the database again every 5 minutes?

It basically calculates the total number of approved holiday requests for a staff member which is correct. I want this number to then update the HolidayTaken field in another table each time a holiday is approved.
I have tried an update however you cannot use an aggregate in an update as I have found.

I'm assuming the best way to go about this would be to have them actually add it to a database and then a function in the program will refresh the dataset with the new list. I'm developing a program working with database. Id like to use the Service base database but it gives me an error when I try to add it in my project Project > Add new Item > Service-based database

Recently, I've changed my job to a biological company, they have huge data but managed by Excel, only by Excel. For example, they have hundreds of orders every month, but they just simply record them by Excel. No database concept is used in this company. Excel to manage this is nightmare, only one person can write the file, others can only read the file by ReadOnly. And these data is very easy to be mistakenly modified.
So, since I come to the above Excel-managed company about one month ago, I cannot stop myself thinking apply database.But I have no programming background at all, only used VB6.0 to create some tiny program in High School. Now I started to think whether I can use VB2010 to do this.First of all, I turn this problem to Access, and I learned a lot database design theory from getting to know Access. However, I finally find out that Access can hardly freely create Form like VB (maybe I didn't find out how)
Anyway, I started to study VB2010, to add DataSet to my Form1, and use DataGridView to display data, and to use TableAdapter to modify data. However, it is quite hard to learn, without any systematic books. For example, I am confused about TableAdapter and TableManger, and I don't know how to simply display a modified DataTable by DataGridView control. And SQL search language is new to me as well.
So, I'm wondering if anyone could recommend me any books based on what I would like to learn? Or any tips and reviews?
