How To Determine Which Control Has Been Clicked
Apr 11, 2011I have a program with 32 PictureBoxes (pb1 ... pb32). The user will select one of the picture boxes. All picture boxes will call the same subroutine, passing the variable of the name of the box clicked. Rather than writing a click event for all 32 boxes, and call the same subroutine from each event, is there a way that I can determine which picture box has been clicked?

Get Control That Was Clicked To Open A ContextMenuStrip?
Jan 15, 2010I'm using a ContextMenuStrip for multiple controls and I'm trying to figure out the best way to get the control that was actually clicked on to open the Context Menu. The sender just gives the ToolStripMenuItem reference, which has an Owner property that references the ContextMenuStrip, but I cannot figure out how to tell which control the click came from. There must be a simple way to check this, right? I'm checking it in the ToolStripMenuItem's click event.

Feb 22, 2012programmer and anything related with IT. i'm trying to create a program for my internet cafe wherein i would need 2 forms, 1 which will contain the transactions and 1 to log in/out customers. I was able to make this using excel but am currenty having a hard time now creating the program with VB2010, because syntax/formulas seemed different from that of excel2010... i have so many questions that i would like to ask, but i'l start with loading a form(for logging in/out) by clicking the Log-in button.

So page one has a hyperlink that loads page two in a popup. Page 2 has a button that should do nothing. However, when I click on the button a new window pops up and loads Page 2 again.
If I navigate directly to page 2, nothing happens.I'm thinking I must have some odd configuration either in VS or in IIS that's causing it; but I have no idea what.

Mar 22, 2011I have 10 textboxes on a windows form. Each textbox has the same contextmenu. Say they are named textbox1 - textbox10. What I need is when I right click in one of the textboxes I need to capture the name of the textbox in which the contextmenu was called. So if I am over textbox2 and right click for contextmenu then select menu item #2 in the click event I need to capturethe textbox control I called the contextmenu from (textbox2) so I can send that name to a function to process my other code.

Force Close Application - Code Is Executed When A Button Is Clicked
Sep 2, 2011I have a backup script i made in VB. part of the code im having trouble with:

Now this code is executed when a button is clicked, if the folder does exists, it displays a message and continues the backup. however if it does not it displays displays "does not exist box" then i want the application to close.
I played around with the application.exit commands but it seems like the code just skips over it, and continues to try and backup the data, then errors out. how do i make the application close, if the dir does not exist?

For testing purposes, we call them Item1, Item2, Item3, and Item4.I've set up a context menu strip like this, and I am using it for about 20 different controls. I want these four items to do different things based on what control the user right clicks. The only way I could think of doing this, was to make 20 context menu strips and create a click event for each item. This obviously, seems like a really bad way of doing it.Does anyone have any suggestions or another way of making the click events for the individual Items based on what control is right clicked?

VS 2008 Writing Some VB2008 Code To Control Four 7-seg LED's / Serial Port Control?
Nov 10, 2010I'm writing some VB2008 code to control four 7-seg LEDs I bought from Velleman. They came with some example code in VB 5.0, and with instructions telling me to input 5 bytes at a time in the format Chr$() & Chr$() & etc. for the rest of the 5 bytes. When I try to do this using VB2008, it rejects the $ sign, so I've tried it using the Chr() format, which VB2008 allows. However, it doesn't work. Is Chr() the new version of Chr$() or are they different entities? In sending data to the LEDs, I'm using LiveComPort.WriteLine() as my command. (My serial port is called LiveComPort) I also tried it with LiveComPort.Write() asthe command. I know that my serial port and the LEDs are working, because they respond to the demo program provided by Velleman.
