Saving Multiple Items To One File Then Reading It Again?
Jan 17, 2011
Lets say you have a few text boxes, I know how to save the information in each box to a text file, but that creates a file for each box. Is it possible to save the contence of lots of different text boxes to 1 text file, and then when loading them it would load it all back to the right places?
I have some items in my listbox which I will store everyone of them into my database, what I am doing now is looping the box and call my database saving logic to save every single item. I thought this is pretty inefficient, is there anyway that I can use to batch save my items so that I don't open and close the connection as many times as my items.
For Each item In outletToBox.Items .CamCode = Items.ToString .CamCampaignAutoID = retID .CamRemarks = uitxtCamRemarks.Text.Trim '---use savetable object to save to database table--- Next
I am currently working on a vb project. What I am trying to do is reading a XML file and saving all the data in to the Access DB. Once this is done, I read the data from the access Db and display it in the required fields in VB form. Issue is, when i store the value in the access, a weird character is assigned before and after the data. The character is a square box with question mark in it. Also the same character displays on the VB form as well
I'm new to VB and trying to figure out how I can replace a bit of descriptive text in a binary file. I presume its binary as I cant open it with anything but a hex editor. I've changed the text (file description) in the hex editor and saved it fine but I'm unsure how I go about saving just the section of information I need. I can work out the saving bit later. In the attached file you'll see the highlighted bit I want to edit. I need to replace the whole line or the file corrupt but I can fill it up with null characters and the numbers are just
I am trying to create a console application that allows me to read the contents of a text file and saving the data by specific name in a set of files. For example, the text file I am going to read is a tab delimited file. Some content of the file includes full name, school, location, and whatnot. I want to save the content by school name in a set of files that have the school names. In this case, everyone that attends "Central" will be saved in a file named Central.txt.Everyone that attends "Central Park" will be saved in a file named Central Park.txt.These are the sub procedures I came up with so far:
Readfile() 'Use StreamReader WriteFile()
And I think I am on the right track of reading the text file:
Dim objStreamReader As StreamReader Dim strLine As String 'Pass the file path and the file name to the StreamReader constructor.
I'm program that uses quite a few different comboboxes. Essentially drop down boxes to prevent invalid user input. Anyways, the problem I've run into is when I'm loading files that will populate those combo boxes. Essentially, certain selection in the combo boxes invalidate selections in other boxes. What I'm doing is taking a text file, and reading it line by line. Each line is based off the combo box selections previously made and saved using the same application. Returning to the same screen, I want to populate the combo boxes with the data previously selected.
I'm initially populating the combo boxes in program with <combo box>.Items.Add() Other than searching item by item for the proper text, getting the index of of that text, and then setting that as the selected item?
So what I'm thinking of doing is this... Dim Fin As System.IO.StreamReader Fin = System.IO.OpenText(FileName) Dim sInput As String Dim iIndex As Integer [Code] .....
I'm writing an application in vb.net 2008. It's basically a randomised image quiz. I have saved questions, answers and time taken to answer questions into 3 listboxes: listboz1, listbox2 and listbox3. I'm trying to add the content of all into a csv file. This is my code below which only saves the contents of one listbox to a txt file. How do I get a combination of all listboxes in the file with format (L1,L2,L3)? I alos want to add the user name and the date the test/ quiz was taken.
I am compiling a quiz, so the question number, user response and time taken to answer questions are sent to 3 listboxes. I wanted to save the file name (from the login form, date and listbox contents to a text file. I have scoured numerous codws...none of them work..all with errors. I have tried to look at Streamwriting listboxes. But can not find a way to add multiple listboxes to one text box. Actually none of the codes (including the Sub SaveToKnownFileWithDelimiter (below) I have looked at work.
This is my quiz code so far....
Public Class Form1 Dim intPic As Integer Dim pickedImg As New List(Of Integer)
i am going to be saving data with DPAPI encryption. i am not sure whether i should just have one big file with all the data or should i break up the data into separate files, where every file is its own record. i suspect the entire dataset would be less than 10mb, so i am not sure whether it's worth it to break it down into about a few hundred separate files or should i just keep it one file?
I have a sign up sheet that I am creating for a project I'm working on and the sign up sheet works and I can enter all my data into the text fields and save the info but when I go to open the file again all the data is pushed into one text box and not in their own fields?
If there a trick in the SaveFileDialog that I can use to save each field to file then open them back in their own field?
Here's a screen shot of the before and after the program [URL]
I am using VB2008 now, couple of simple questions. 1) Is there some way to limit what my user puts in their textbox to numbers only? Or is there some way to check afterwards that the string only contains numbers and delete it if it contains anything else? 2) How to open a file, save the values of 5 text boxes into the file and then close the file?
I have a program that is reading and writing to certain memory addresses to a particular application exe...
So I have a listview control with 4 columns and X rows
| Name | Address | Type | Value |
Name: Is just an identifier so the user knows what it is.Address: Is a specific memory address (eg 0058AFA0).Type: Type of value stored in the address (eg, 4 Bytes, Float).Value: Value to store in the address.Im looking for a way to go through each row, take the address and use this to read the value at that address and then update the value on that row
I am trying to get the information inputted from multiple textboxes to save to a single text file.
Here's what I got. Private Sub btn_done_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btn_done.Click Dim FILE_NAME As String = "C:UsersTrevorDocumentsDraftAC est.txt" Dim i As Integer Dim aryText(2) As String [Code] .....
I'm looking to be able to save and load the content from multiple structured arrays and variables into/from an encrypted file, is there any reliable source of information or tutorial that I'd be able to use for this? I've never written a program in visual basic that writes to/reads from a file.
I have a program that, at present, reads a set of global variables from a text file. The program is on the client machines (around 100 clients). My problem is that when it comes to the update of the variables within the client program an error sometimes appears stating that the text file could not be read as it is already open (by one of the other machines). Currently I am cutting it down so that only 30 machines read from the single text file, although I am still going to get the error occasionally. Any ideas (apart from catching the error, and trying to read again until it works). Maybe another way to store the variables?
how i can read multiple lines from a text file to a variable that i can process individually later. Each batch needs to be stored so that i can modify them and then recombine them into a file later. So each "group" starts with the line that begins with 5 and ends with the line that begins with 8, no if we can store the line great, if not then output to a tmp file and merge after completion is ok too.. not sure how to best handle it (hence why i am posting here)I was looking at doing with Regex but this is way over my head right now. So here is what i need to do, and below is the code that processes the groups... not sure how to read the batches in first:So from this input:

I am trying to select Multiple files and then read the file 1 by 1, i want to know how to specify the file number in Visual Basic .net 2008
Here is a sample code which i have used in reading the text file.
With dlgOpen .Filter = "txt Files (*.txt)|*.txt" .Title = "Open Text Files"
[Code]....
Actually my text file is a dump file and i need to make a program to process this dump file. I may ask some stupid questions but this is just a beginning, i want to parse INDIVIDUAL text file line by line. In the above code i have used the ReadToEnd function in order to display it in TextBox but i may use ReadLine Function or Read function to read line by line or characters respectively.
I have attached an Access Database with the predefined tables in it, I want to update the contents in Access Database. Supposingly if my textfile contains Names (Sam,Julie,Joseph,Marina), how will i update my attached Access table in vertical order !
I have this problem on reading multiple root elements from xml file to vb.net. how can i code it in order for my code to display all the root elements? here is my xml code
[Code]....
And also how do i do it in a way that I can select the firstname from second root element?
I'm currently writing a program that needs to open a file specified by the user, replace a certain string of text with a different string of text, and save it to the user-specified path. Here's what I have so far:
Private Sub forceButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles forceButton.Click Dim writer As New IO.StreamWriter(OpenChart1.FileName) Replace("", "E *", "N 5 0") End Sub
how to permanently save to text files then re-open all of the information again using SFD and OFD. Now my teacher has come back at me and said that i need to be able to save the information from multiple text boxes and have the text in certain labels to also be saved into the one text file (the labels need to be done because it is a database and these labels are like the fields and the right text box needs to match the right label)
I am writing an application that connects to a specific com port. This com port can change depending on how many physical ports are on the PC, and if other USB devices have installed com ports before this one.
I have the communication to the com port all working great, but I need to get the com port description not just the "COM#" which is all I currently get.
I found in the registry where the description is stored but am having trouble doing what I need.
there is a varied number of sub keys. The are numbered 0000-NNNN depending on how many ports you have. Inside each of these keys, there are multiple values, although I am only interested in one or 2 of them.
My problem is, that I do not know how to get a list of the subkeys (the 0000-NNNN keys/folders) from the original key I posted. I have looked through a few registry tutorials, and I can view the default value in the listed key, but I could not find how to list the subkeys of the listed key.
Does anyone have any sample code they could share that shows how I can get a listing of subkeys, and then run through those subkeys checking for a specific value in one of the strings contained in the subkey?
I have to create a school reward system. Currently i have written code for creating user accounts and logging into the system. I have been able to write to the file i need to and i have been able to log in. However i can only log in for the first saved account. when i hover over the stored variable whilst stepping through it appears that unnecessary gaps have been added to stored information...User.stored username is the data structure type that i have stored information as...
