Selecting Printer Trays In Word 2010?
Jun 11, 2011
I have an application written in VB.net for batch print jobs. As part of the application, the user selects two printer trays to use to print the batch to (one plain paper the other coloured for coversheets and batch seperators) I had this working until we upgraded our systems from Windows XP with Office 2000 to Windows 7 and Office 2010. Now the selected trays are not being recognised and an error is thrown.
I've looked at similar posts on here and other forums but they seam to concentrate on using some word default trays (wdPrinterDefaultBin etc) however I need to be able to let the user pick whatever tray they wish to use. I don't want to have to go through every printer in the building and map the trays to the word values either as I don't want to rewrite the app everytime we've a new printer.
Here is the code:
sub PopulatePrinterTray (byref Printer as String)
'gets printer trays for selected printer and then populates some comboboxes
Dim pkSource As Printing.PaperSource
Dim printDoc As New Printing.PrintDocument
[code]....

Isn't there a way to send an MS Word doc to a printer in VB.net? We generate dozens of Word docs for our clients daily, and would like to create a simple app that will list the files in a selected folder and allow them to highlight as few or as many as they want and send them to their default printer.

I'm using VB (visual studio) 2008. I'm trying to search a microsoft word file and select/copy text from it What i want to do
a. Search for a string/word in a text document(i.e "question)
b. When its found copy of text from that point to a point further down the document defined by a certain string ("a.")
c. after this is done it will continue to look for the next time the same string occurs (i.e. "question"") and continue as above?
I've figured out how to search for the word (question) but not managed to figure out the rest of it. Heres the code so far
Dim oWord As Word.Application = CreateObject("Word.Application")
Dim wdword As Word.Range
' Create new word document

My company is moving to a new system which has a very poor printing system in place but it does create PDF's on the file system. How to create an application to print all the PDF's based on a JOB number. I've got the filesystem search working, I have used the acrobat sdk to open each file and find certain strings to determine which pages go where. The problem is that Acrobat SDK doesn't seem to support choosing printer settings.
My first thought was no big deal I just change the default windows printer and just change the tray so the invoice part and equipment listing go to white paper from tray 1, and the remittance goes to tray 2 on blue paper. It seems like the printdocument in .net can handle a lot of printer settings but I'm not sure if a PDF can be used with a print document.

My objective: Set the printer to use without changing the default in Word under the control of vb.net express 08. Word version is 2000
I have it working, but Through a lot of trying, I discovered that the WordBasic line would work. Further exploration revealed the with dialogs(13) will work. In a Word macro it would be Dialogs(wdFilePrintSetup) or Dialogs(97)
This is where it gets interesting. While Word.WdWordDialog.wdDialogFilePrintSetup equals to 97 it doesnt activate the correct dialog. After considerable trying, I found that index 13 does yield the correct dialog box.

I'm looking for a way to export a Word document as a PDF. I would like to do this without the use of a "software printer" (such as CutePDF, etc.) and stick to reference assemblies if at all possible. I'm using Microsoft Office Interop Assemblies to generate a Word Document which I save to a temporary directory. So its not necessary for this solution to interact directly with Microsoft Office, unless it needs to.

We have an interactive windows based application written in VB .Net 2010. It uses Word Object to display documents in MS Word. We have a form with a button. When the button is clicked we open the Word document and maximize the Word Windowstate. When we have the Visual Studio Tool running, the Word Document is maximized and has focus, even if we are running the exe from the bin folder outside of the tool. However, if Visual Studio is not running and we run the exe, focus remains on the original form window and the document stays in the task bar.

I have developed a WinForm Application with VB.Net (VS2010) having Office 2010 Professional Installed, and it is 64-bit Windows 7 Platform. The program opens a .doc and .rtf format document, and attempts to save it in htm format. I am using following commands:
Dim sFilePath as String = "C:ABCfile.doc"
Dim oApp As New Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.Application
Dim oDoc As New Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.Document
[code]....
All goes fine with development and running on development PC, but when I publish it for offline installation, and deploy it on Client PC having Windows XP with Office 2007, it gives error on oDoc.SaveAs2 line, and program crashes.

I try to select the last row like this:
Dim lastRow As Integer = DGV.RowCount
MsgBox(lastRow)
DGV.Rows(lastRow).Selected = True
The messagebox returns the correct number, but when it comes to select that row it says:Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index
But if I assign it a row, example: DGV.Rows(5).Selected = True

I want to select records from a access table using sql in vb.net 2010 based on what a user types....
My statement is: comm = New OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM Recipes WHERE RecipeName= '" & TB1.Text & "')", con)
this only selects records where the full word is the only word in the record set.
I want to type say "Vodka" in the search box and then it must return all the records where "Vodka" is ANY part of the record name: ie: "vodka" or "Vodka" (any case letter) or "Blue Vodka" etc.

Dim TextToPrint as string
TextToPrint = LastName(1) & ", " & FirstName(1) & " " & G(1,1) & " " & G(1,2) & " " & G(1,3) & vbCrLf
TextToPrint = LastName(2) & ", " & FirstName(2) & " " & G(2,1) & " " & G(2,2) & " " & G(2,3)
TextToPrint = LastName(3) & ", " & FirstName(3) & " " & G(3,1) & " " & G(3,2) & " " & G(3,3) & vbCrLf
Printer.Print TextToPrint
What's the equivalent in VB 2010?

Is there a way to make a column unselectable? I can make the column read-only but it would be easier if it was unselectable so the user won't be confused trying to enter data into a read only cell. So if I clicked on a cell in that column or moved into that cell in that column it would jump to the next column, or not focus on the cell at all.

1. Detect if my printer is busy, because my code tells the printer to print more pages that it can cope with, so I need to delay the command for 'Print the next page' until the printer has finished printing the previous one.
2. Shift the output to my printer so that it gets printed in it's entirety on the paper, instead of seemingly being anchored to some nebulous point on the A4 page. It starts printing at X = 29mm from the left edge, and Y is 28mm from the top, and stops at X = 22mm from the right edge and Y stops at 22mm from the bottom edge, leaving (aprox) 50mm of X and 50mm of Y unprinted.
3. Get useful information on Bounds, which I'm fairly certain is what I need to control where my printing should start and finish.
I've hunted through this forum, MSDN, 'Help' (a misnomer if ever there was one) the VB Library and one or two other forums, which either baffle me with reams of code or suggest code to try which either just don't work or which doesn't declare all the variables and usually don't suggest what type of variable I need, it's all very frustrating
