How would I output a sentence with VB.NET?
Example: Your program and Internet Explorer are open, your program outputs [URL] and presses "{ENTER}", and it will go to the page.

other than GML (Yoyogames.com Game Maker Language), I am new to the coding world. The only "major" project I have completed using VB is a computer calculator that exactly mimics the capabilities of Windows 7's calculator. Yesterday, I began a Chatbot program for my girlfriend. Lol. I have used the instr() function to answer most of the questions or answers which are typed into the textbox1. I find this extremely troublesome because when using the instr() function you cannot say instr(textbox1.

Anyway, I'm a teacher and am writing a program that simply shows kids a word on a flashcard. There are 2 buttons, 1 to read the word and 1 to go to a new work. There are going to be 300 words. Really I'm just testing it right here. What I want to know is should I be inputting all the words right into the code like I did with "hi" and "not 1" (Don't ask. those are just the 2 random words I picked to test this out with). OR is there a better way (maybe somehow to type all the words on a text file and have the program randomly pull one of them (I don't know how to do this).

On a textbox you can have auto complete but you can only have one word. Is there a way to have every word in the text box ask for auto complete?
View 7 RepliesI'm trying to send some words to an application I'm running (no webpage). To do this I run my vb program and minimize it, so that the application I want to send the words to have focus.Now I've tried sendkeys, but it seems sendkeys only sends my first word and does nothing with the other words. The code below is called 4 times by the main form [code]but this throws in a overflowexception was unhandled error at the apiSendMessage(hWnd, WM_SETTEXT, 0, "Hello") line.I've tried several things but I can't figure it out how to send multiple words to the application without problems.

This solves the word and has an option to save. Or it solves and saves all words in a list. I tried to do it with jokers using the jokers as every letter but it slows the program down drastically.
i want to replace certain words each time they are detected in order to create a correct response. i have managed to replace the word"i" with "you" and "you" with "me" separatley but when both words are detected in the string it dont work....

I'm using the code below to take a string and split it up into an array. It will take: Disney Land and make it two separate elements. If the string contains "Disney Land" then it is one element in the array. Works great, however it adds some empty elements to the array each time. So I just iterate over the elements and remove them if they are empty. Is there a tweak to the code below that will prevent those empty elements from occurring?

It works fine, i click button and the gridview shows all the right records. The problem is when i use more then 1 word in textbox. it shows nothing. The record in the database field may have several words, so i need to search using all words in textbox.
I'm trying to make the autocomplete work on a list of items entered into a textbox separated by semicolons. I have a list of authors the user can choose from and it autocompletes as they type the name no problem, but what I'd like to do is after the user types a name followed by a semicolon, the autocomplete works on the next name and so on.e.g., Smith, John; Eastwood, Clint?
View 1 RepliesI recently had some problems with the performance of the Word object model. In an add-in that I wrote for Word I need to parse through all the words of a document and replace some of them or ask the user for the ones that have multiple replacements. I know that it is faster to ask Word for all of the document text content at once and then process it and put it back all at once again, but this is not suitable for my add-in because I need to have access to the range objects that represent the words that have multiple replacements so that I can somehow mark them in the document and present the user with a tool tip from which he can select the replacement he wants.
So for the moment the single great speed improvement that came in my head was multithreading since most people already have dual core or better. The problem is that all the things you find on Google say that multithreading in Office is a very bad thing to do.
So is there any one who managed to do this in a manner that worked in most of its usage? By this I mean if it also worked on other PCs then the development one?

Ok so basically heres what i need to do: Extract text from the webpage that meets a certain criteria. There will be a ton of these on 1 page and i would like to add them to a rich textbox on sperate lines.
I know that it needs to be in a loop and its needs to Parse the wepage(Dim web1 As String = Me.WebBrowser1.Document.Body.InnerText)
The criteria is: Starts with 1 to 4(random) integers, Followed by "my" then 13(random) numbers and letters. Or if it starts with "167my" + 6(random) number and letters.
Edit: Also im going to try to make it loop through a list of webpages to do this.
I want to have a link in an email with an ID number. Then, when the user clicks on the link in the email, it either launches my program, or brings the program to top, depending on whether it is opened or not, and then loads the record for that ID number from the link (the software is a record lookup tool).If I can figure out how to "send" the program the ID, I can figure the rest out.
View 5 RepliesI have made a app that allows me to keep track of when bills are due, it allows 8 bills and dates to be entered and once the time hits a specified time of day and the day that the bill is due it sends a text message to my phone, it works fine if only one of them are enable but if 2 are due the same day it seems to only send the first on that completes the if statement i made heres my code, the timer is set for ever 1 second tick (otherwise it sends multiple texts of the same bill due) This is the first 2 of the bills but the other 6 are the same

so I want to build an application that will send words to another program. The use is that I have call of duty world at war, and I want to be able to send the game the text "`sf_usenoammo1" which is a cheat code for unlimited ammo. I searched around and was told to look into the "send keys" which looks promising but I still don't know how to use them, any ideas on how to send the info and select the focus to the open program would be awesome.

What I mean here is I want to create a program that sends email to multiple recipients, unlike the usual program which the email address , the subject and other email attributes are hard coded, what I want is hopefully the email address, message body, is came from the database.
So basically if i will going to call a form to send the email, it will fetch the data from the database server providing me a list of recipients and their other details.
im trying to write a small app to save emails , it has two forms , one form for sending emails and a second form to edit the mail-list which is saved as a text file list.txt
the code works just fine if list.txt is populated with email addresses separated by commas but when i attempt to change this list in my second form and return to the previous form when i press send i get this error.

I have written a little code to send email using System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient based on examples that I have found online. The code takes e-mail address, subject, body text and even attachment from my form, send the e-mail and sendsme a confirmation.
Initially I had some problems because I was using async but when I reverted to simple send it worked great.
I now have a need to send multiple e-mails (purely legitimate use - newsletters & information updates to registered clients). My solution was to loop through a dataset passing the necessary variables (e-mail address, clients name & personalised body text) to my e-mail routine. It sort of works but I repeatedly get a delivery failure message "The Operation has timed out"

My latest command i want to implement, is being able to define words, and have it send me a txt back with the definition. Now I know how to send texts, and all of that stuff, but I have found it hard to find anything on defining words. I am creating an application to configure some modems through the serial port. I have no problem sending a single string of data to the serial port and displaying the immediate response to a rich text box. I have 2 problems
1st: how to update the rich text box for any delayed response from the modem
2nd: how to react to the response from the modem, in other words I want to send the next command based on the response from the modem witch is usually "OK"

I got to work and only popup once instead of multiple times. But what Im wondering is It wont do that Unless I run the program AT the same time that is in the Cell. Im wondering if ma7ybe I should creat a new timer for each row then just have a timer constantly reading through the rows and to see what time is in the cell vs. System time or what.
