I am working in VB 2008 and I have a textbox on a form that is used to enter a parcel number. I can enter the number in a 15 character string such as 12345678...... and it works just fine. The parcel number in real life contains dashes to make it easier to read, decipher, etc. so it looks like 12-3-45-67....... Under the textchanged subroutine for the textbox I have a case statement set up that checks the length of the parcel number as it is entered and inserts the dash accordingly.

I am binding a textbox's text value setting to my a variable in my configuration file. I only consider the input from this textbox to be valid if it's an integer number bigger than 1. Right now what I was doing is letting the user write whatever he wanted in the box, and I'd only let him save the settings after calling a validation function. The problem seems to be that my binding variable in the Settings class seems to be being updated as soon as the textbox is being edited, and that's a behaviour i'd like to skip. How can I do this?
View 3 RepliesAs some of you are aware of, I am fairly new to VB.NET. I am trying to learn as much as I can. I have a textbox which is set to multiline. It's setup to accept a maximum of 500 characters (10 lines of 50). First of all, since it's size is fixed, how can I remove the right bar on the left as im not using it (the scrolling bar).
#2, once a user click on a button, I disable the textbox and display the text. I can set the background color, however it looks like when the textbox is disabled, text is gray and can't be changed. A fix I found is to use a label and hide the textbox, but are there any easier way ?
Am facing the below issue while converting my application from vb6 to vb.net.[code]The menu is getting displayed always at the top left. I need to set it exactly as wher I right click.
View 2 RepliesI have two forms: Main and Options.Main can be moved around the screen (like a normal window). When the user clicks a button, the Options form opens up and the Main form HIDES.How do I set the Options form to open in the exact place that the Main form was last on the screen (to give it the effect the MAIN form never went into hidding)I was thinking to set Option form's StartPosition to Main's current position, but I don't know the syntax for that or if it's even something you can do.

View 1 RepliesI'm trying to set hotkeys for all my favorite websites. When one of these hotkeys are pressed, I want it to load the assigned website in internet explorer, but I want internet explorer to load on my SECONDARY monitor. I've already set out the hotkeys to load internet explorer, but it loads on the wrong screen. How to check if an instance of IE is already running. To be a bit more specific: the secondary monitor is set to the LEFT of the primary one. And the resolution is at 1440 x 900. So basically, I want to programmatically set IE's position to (-1440, 0) from within my application itself.
View 5 RepliesI am trying to make a program that allows me to operate a program while I am not around (kind of like a bot) because I need to move alot of things and do the same motion over and over.
So in my program's settings I have made a form that is transparent that I want to set my working area with (i wont be resizing the form, it's size is "975, 575") and save the forms Top, Left, Bottom, Right positions so I can create a macro for my mouse to click.
how to save a forms position on the screen? So I can use it to set a working area?
I just want to save its current location to 4 variables

View 1 RepliesI have a TextBox control with a lot of text which has a vertical scrollbar, and every time I hide/show the control the position of the scrollbar stays the same. View 1 RepliesI Would like to position the cursor in a text box using X,Y coordinates with X being the line number and Y being the column number. Is there any way to determine the line and column numbers of a textbox that is full of text. Using the .selectionstart paramenter only lets you position the cursor a certain distance from the beginning of text but there is no line information that I know of. By the way, I not an expert at VB so bear with me if these questions seem kind of basic.

View 1 RepliesHere is what I am trying to do: I've added a .SelectAll() method in the MouseDown event of a textbox and it works well.
Now when the user double clicks, I'd like to unselect the text and set the position where the cursor is.
I don't know if I'am making myself clear here so here is an example:
Let's say this is the following text in the textbox: "this is just a test, please do not panic."
User clicks in the textbox, all the text becomes selected.
Let's assume the position of the curosr is just before the "j"
The user double click so the text becomes unselected and the cursor position automatically changes to the j.
I know I have to use the .Select(start, length) method with 0 as length value, but how do I find the start value depending of the mouse position ?
I wanna get the position of cursor(not mouse position !!), when the cursor is inside a textbox or richtextbox. On the click of a button, i should get the current position. If i get X,Y co-ordinates, it s well and good. If not possible pixel co-ordinates. Please help. I am new to vb.net

View 3 RepliesI'm working on a project that incorporates an Arduino Duemilanove board and a program that a wrote in VB 2008. Basically, when the Arduino receives a symbol from COM3, it sets a Pin on the board, high or low. I'm using two Pins, one is going to be for a laser, the other a relay. The relay is going to close a circuit, and act as the button on the Nerf Vulcan. That's right, I'm creating a Nerf sentry gun. It's going to be fully controlled from my computer. I have all of the code done for the servo, and all of that, both on the Arduino and in VB.
The Arduino sends the angle of the Servo that will control the right and left movement of the gun through COM3, every time it changes. I want my program to display that position in a textbox, as my program needs that value in order to properly function. Basically, I need the code to read from the serial port, and display what it receives in a textbox, textbox3.
I have created a maskedtextbox to do a simmple validation >L99999. My problem is when the user clicks on the empty box the cursor stays where they clicked it, not at the beginning of the box as it would with a normal textbox. I have found some suggestions but these all seem to affect the way the cursor moves within the box rather than just changing the start position. As far as the end user is concerned the box should behave just as any other textbox but with validation.
