im trying to make an example program for a teacher friend of mine
Springfield Toledo Youngstown
[Code]....
thats just what i have so far but im really having trouble getting the other part into a 2d array. i want the second half to look like this when done: the oppsite of what it looks like in the file.
I am trying to complete a program that creates an array of the states that begin with New from an array with all 50 states. The code below is what I have so far and cannot seem to figure out what I am missing.[code]...
I wrote this do while loop it is supposed to search through an array until it finds an account number that matches. but I have a problem I cant check the very first part the array when its subscript is 0 because of where i put increment x but if i move it to the end it won't work how can i fix this?
Public Sub AccountNumberSearch(ByVal a() As Account, ByVal accnum As Integer, ByVal numacc As Integer) Dim x As Integer = 0
I'd like to know if it is possible to refer to section of an array. e.g.
dim a(10) as integer foo(<reference to array a starting at item 2>) 'only use items 2 to 9 of the array ... sub foo(byref a() as integer) <do something with array> end sub
Note that I don't want to copy the array to a new array or pass in indices, if I can avoid doing so. Subroutine foo should be able to process the array without knowing if it gets the whole array or just a section.
I have an array of people stored in a custom structure array... how can i copy this array to a temp array so that the temp array has all the same values as the original custom array?
I am working on an assignment where I need to have a product list that is loaded into a list box upon the form loading. This is generated from a txt file in the /debug folder upon loading. Now my question is how do I have the product names show up in the list box when there are 3 separate parts to each product. The product, the cost, and the quantity in inventory, and all I want to show up is the product in the listbox, where the rest show up elsewhere.
CODE:
'This procedure loads the data for the array from txt file. As well as loading the Product.txt file into the system when the program loads.
I am trying to create the following program Store in a 1d array a set of 5 place names and in a 2d array the distances between the places. Ensure that the order of the places is the same in both arrays. When the names are places are input the distance between them is displayed. If they are not both in the table a suitable message is displayed
Dim town(1 To 5) As String
Dim Dist(1 To 5, 1 To 5) As Integer
Dim First As Integer
[CODE]......................
I think the best way forward is pass a parameter to the function findnumber.
How do i write an array into my.setting? do i need to do a loop and write each value of the array into the setting? What about a 2d array? How to get the .count of the 2d array in my.setting?
What I'm trying to do is: Set numbers (0-51, a deck of cards) in an array like card(0) = 23 (Which would represent, say, the Jack of Clubs). Then card(1) = 35. Now I have two arrays.
The first array is what I have mentioned above. The second array is holding a Boolean value. So what I do is make a loop going through the card() array from 0-51. In this loop it generates a random number between 0 and 51. Then I check the second array (iCardUsed()) to see if it holds the random number.
So iRndNum = 13 (Say 13 was the random number) loops through the second array checking if the there is a value of 13. If there isn't then I want it to set card(whatever it was on, say 12) = 13. then make iCardUsed(13) = true saying card 13 was true. I'm not too sure what to do if it was true, not false.
Alright, now that I explained what I was trying to accomplish, I'll post some code and the project. Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim iCard(0 To 51) As Integer Dim iCardUsed(0 To 51) As Boolean Dim iValue As Integer [Code] .....
Now, this works, but there are some duplicates in the array. I'm not sure why there would be duplicates. It worked fine when I manually entered data so the logic of it is right. [URL].
Any hints on how to place these monthly sales numbers in an array so they show up in 3 separate text boxes (one for domestic sales, one for international sales and one for total sales. (i.e .User enters Month number in a month text box and the above information should show up in the3 individual text boxes).
I have a byte array with 512 Elements and need to get and set a single bit of a byte in this array. The operation must not change any other bits, only the specified one.So if I have a byte like &B00110011 and would like to change the third bit to 1 it should be &B00110111.
Like this:Dim myarray(511) as byte myarray(3).2 = 1 ---> This would change the third bit (start counting at 0) of the third byte to 1 I know it should be easily possible using bit-masking but I don't have the time to try for days to get it working.
I have 15 checkboxes of control array and at run time fill any 4 or 5 or 6 check boxes with color using colordialog. How can i send the colors to the sql server table using for loop using code at runtime
I have a VB2005 project that displays 16 pictureboxes in a 4x4 grid which display CD album covers. In VB6 I could set up a control array i.e. picCD(0) to picCD(15), which made drawing the CD covers a snap. How do I accomplish this in VB2005?
It seems extremely cumbersome to have code like: If Len(path(0)) < 1 Then If Not IsNothing(PictureBox1.Image) Then PictureBox1.Image.Dispose() PictureBox1.Image = Nothing End If [Code] .....
I am working with binary files that have 500 rows and 500 columns (width x height). When I load these files into array I set width and height variables to 500 and I was wondering instead of hard-coding like that how I can code in a way that the program should find the # of rows and # of columns of the file before loading the file into array...
I have a button which reads a comma separated value file and loads it into a richtextbox. Each line contains comma separated chars.
Once the file is loaded in the richtextbox, i want to be able to select specific values from each line and store them into an array.
For example: Line1: a,b,c,d,e
I want to be able to place only the values "b" and "c" into an array.
I was thinking something like creating a menu for the richtextbox which will be triggered on right click, then highlight the values I want, press right click and select 'place these values in an array'.
it doesn't have to be the way i proposed it, but it definitely must use a richtextbox.
I've come up with the following and it's partly working.
Public serial1, serial2, serial3, serial4, serial5 As SerialPort Public serialports() As Object = New Object() {serial1, serial2, serial3, serial4, serial5} dComPort = "COM4"[code]....
The above code works fine! But im having trouble trying to now retreive whats stored in the array. In the above example, an entry will be stored in serialports(4), all other array elements will be blank. If I do this it works.
MsgBox(serialports(4).PortName) ' this retuns the value COM4
But I'd like to loop though all array elements and print out ALL the PortNames, The below code doesnt work, I get an error Object variable or With block variable not set.
For i = 0 To serialports.Length - 1 MsgBox(serialports(i).portname) Next
I'm trying to sort an array based on a structure but whenever I do this, it basically erases all the data in the entire array.I have verified that the array is populated correctly, it is when using array.sort that everything returns blank.
I didn't think it fair to post a comment on Fredrik Mörk's answer in this 2 year old post, so I thought I'd just ask it as a new question instead..NB: This is not a critiscm of the answer in any way, I'm simply trying to understand this all before delving into memory management / the marshal class.
In that answer, the function GetByteArray allocates memory to each object within the given array, within a loop.Would the GetByteArray function on the aforementioned post have benefited at all from allocating memory for the total size of the provided array:
Dim arrayBufferPtr = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(Marshal.SizeOf(<arrayElement>) * <array>.Count)
I just wonder if allocating the memory, as shown in the answer, causes any kind of fragmentation? Assuming there may be fragmentation, would there be much of an impact to be concerned with? Would allocating the memory in the way I've shown force you to call IntPtr.ToInt## to obtain pointer offsets from the overall allocation pointer, and therefore force you to check the underlying architecture to ensure the correct method is used*1 or is there a better way? (ToInt32/ToInt64 depending on x86/64?)
*1 I read elsewhere that calling the wrong IntPtr.ToInt## will cause overflow exceptions. What I mean by that statement is would I use:
Dim anOffsetPtr As New IntPtr(arrayBufferPtr.ToInt## + (loopIndex * <arrayElementSize>))
I've read through a few articles on the VB.Net Marshal class and memory allocation; listed below, but if you know fo any other good articles I'm all ears![URL]..
Per this UserControl that can be added to a blank form, I would like to use the HorizUnits array below to map custom grid x coordinate from a mouse x position. For a given input value 13, what syntax would I use to obtain a value of 2 where 13 lies between Value 10 and 16 for which 2 (Name) would be the custom grid's displayed coordinate position?
I have a 2d array of data that I have performed the sum of the individual column of the 2d array. I want to send the results to a datagridview and also will like to have the result as a 1d or 2d array.
Below is sample of my code
Dim Array1(,) as double Array1(0, 0) = 5 Array1(0, 1) = 7
I want to reading in a excel file and extract the sCodenumber sDescription ans the sStatus and store them in a array : StatusComposeArray(5200) As MyCompose. After this I need this array for comparing outside this class. But as can you see the array is defined inside the sub: ReadingIn_ExcelFilesCompose [Code]
n my project i am to enter a name and a test mark into two separate text boxes and then select the button to store the information into the arrays, one array for names and another for marks, but when it is reset using the Erase <Array> fuction andi try to re enter information, no matter what information is entered i get a "Null Reference Exception Unhandled" Error.I am using Visual Basic 2008.My code is as it says from now:
Public Class frmAdverageTestMarkCalculator Dim ClosingMsg As String Dim Closingtitle As String
