Show Tooltip When User Editing Cell In DataGridView
Nov 23, 2009
I am trying to trigger a tool tip when a user enters a cell in a DataGridView and starts editing it. The idea being that I want the user to know to hit the Return key after they are finished typing in a string in the cell. I only want the tool tip to show when the user is editing a cell in columindex 1.
The following below does note seem to be working.
Private Sub dataGridView14_CellEnter(ByVal sender As Object, _
ByVal e As DataGridViewCellEventArgs) _
Handles DataGridView14.CellEnter
'Only care about columnIndex 1
If e.ColumnIndex = 1 Then

I'm aware that the tooltip object can contain an image. I am unable to make an image popup when the mouse hovers over a datagridview cell, since it is not possible to attach a tooltip object to a cell ( myTip.SetToolTip(gridCell, "Hello") generates a compile error)

I have a dataGridView that I programatically create where I want to set the toolTipText differently for each row by setting the toolTipText in the first column/cell of each row. I know I can do that by doing the following:
myDataGridView.Rows(n).Cells(0).ToolTipText = varContainingText
This works fine. However, it only displays for the default period of time (5 seconds I believe). I'd like to set the autoPopDelay but can't seem to figure out how. I can't seem to do something like:
myDataGridView.Rows(n).Cells(0).autoPopDelay = 10000
This is not a valid reference. How do I set the autoPopDelay for this?

I have a WinForms DataGridView control on a form. There are two fields in this DataGridControl:
Email Address
Resolved Email Address (calculated based on the input in Email Address)
After the user inputs or changes a value in Email Address, I want the value in Resolved Email Address to update based on a separate method. What event should I tie in to so that that the Resolved Email Address cell is updated after the Email Address cell is updated?I'm not sure where to put the event because the user could do a number of things after adding/changing a value: tab to the next cell, click cancel on the form, click ok on the form, etc.

I have a DataGridView bound to a DataTable that has 1+16 columns defined as Integer. The default cell style is hexadecimal 2 digits (.Format="X2").When entering in cell editing I would like to provide to the user, the possibility to write the value in decimal or hexdacimal.Hexadecimal could be written like, for example, 0x00, 0X01, x02, XFF
Decimal like 0, 1, 2, 15For this reason in EditingControlShowing I add "0x" to the TextBox value
Private Sub BankGrid_EditingControlShowing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As DataGridViewEditingControlShowingEventArgs)
Dim grid As DataGridView = DirectCast(sender, DataGridView)

I am adding an undo feature for a DataGridView using the Command Design Pattern. To create the EditCommand, I have to know what was the previous value of the cell, so I can re-enter it in case the user hits undo. I'm doing it using the CellBeginEdit and CellEndEdit events. With the CellBeginEdit, I save the value of the cell in a private variable and at the CellEndEdit function, I use the saved value to create the EditCommand. It's working fine, but I wonder if there is a more saner way to do it. Maybe a event that holds together the previous and the new cell value. Bonus points if I could actually prevent the DataGridView from updating itself and let the EditCommand do it.

I am trying to display a custom control in a datagridview cell so that I can show nicely formatted information.
I am quite comfortable with the use of datagridview control accepting a list of objects as its datasource. I am also comfortable with populating the cell contents in the cellformatting event.
So I am planning to, instead of using a normal textbox control, button control and linkedtext control in datagridview cell, display my own custom control which is good one for displaying some custom data like, name, address, telephone, photo and others. It would be a nice improvement in my application.

I'm trying to add functionality to my DGV that enables the user to edit the cell data and then save it to the datasource but I'm not getting very far. Right now, I'm just concerned with the editing the DGV part.
What's the best way to do this taking into consideration: A column of type date in hh:mm format will not edit. At the moment this column won't display the new edit and if I attempt to enter and display a string instead of a hh:mm rime format, I get an error)I need to provide validation for the value that is entered. There are loads of events for DGV cells

I have a DataGridView where Cell_Validating is being done. I have a Cancel button on my form that allows the user to exit out of the DataGridView changes. The problem is that if a cell was currently flagged as in error, I cannot exit and remove columns from the DataGridView. I get the following error: Operation did not succeed because the program cannot commit or quit a cell value change. Is there a way to cancel the validation once the focus has been removed from the DataGridView? Here is my Cell_Validating

I'm trying to show a custom contextmenustrip on my datagridview and it works fine except when the cell is being being edited. Then it shows the default windows contextmenustrip with copy/cut/..Is there a way to overwrite the DataGridViewTextBoxCell contextmenustrip or disable it? The solution from Disable DataGridView System ContextMenu does'nt work for me.

I don't think the InitializeEditingControl is ever getting called by the Cell for some reason.

I'm afraid this is a very simple question, but I can't figure it out... I hardly ever use the DataGridView (usually use a third party grid) so I never needed to do this before.Anyway, I have a DataGridView that is data-bound to a List(Of SomeClass). The grid is not ReadOnly, but I made every column ReadOnly except the very first, which is a boolean column so it displays a checkbox. This way, the user cannot edit any cell value, but he can check/uncheck the checkbox in the first column.
What I need now basically is an event that is raised when the user (not programmatically) changes the value of this checkbox. I also need to be able to retrieve the bound item from that event (from the row number I think?) but that should be no problem, I hope.Anyway, there's a bunch of events that looked promising but all have something I don't want:
1. CellBeginEdit - Fires before the checkbox value has changed, so can't use this.
2. CellEndEdit - Only fires after the edited row loses focus. I want to save it back to the database as soon as the user changes the checkbox value!
3. CellValueChanged - Same problem as nr 2.
I'm sure it must be possible for me to react as soon as the user changes the value of the checkbox? How can I do this?

how to get the DataGridView CellMouseDoubleClick to fire when a user double clicks on a DGV cell.I currently have both DGV.CellMouseClick & DGV.CellMouseDoubleClick implimented in my code. The DGV.CellMouseDoubleClick never fires and the DGV.CellMouseClick always fires. The only exception is when I position the cursor between DGV cells and get the double arrow. If I double click with the double arrow then I get the DGV.CellMouseDoubleClick to fire.I need to take different actions for users RT-Click, RT-Dbl-Click, LT-Click and LT-Dbl-Click.

I am working on implementing cell level error indication in my app and I have it set up to where it shows the error icon correctly and I tried using the datagridview FAQ sample code to show an errortooltip as well. I can watch as I set the errortooltip to have the proper data and display control (in mousemove event), yet the second I finish my mousemove event it fires the mouseleave event and resets my tooltip before the user ever has a chance to see it.
Here's my:
' show and hide the tooltip for error
Private Sub ChuteSinglesDataGridView_CellMouseMove(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As DataGridViewCellMouseEventArgs) Handles ChuteSinglesDataGridView.CellMouseMove
If cellInError.X = e.ColumnIndex AndAlso cellInError.Y = e.RowIndex Then
Dim cell As DataGridViewCell = ChuteSinglesDataGridView(e.ColumnIndex, e.RowIndex)
