TableAdapter Methods Exit Out Of Sub When Run On 64bit Machine And Database Copy?

Feb 26, 2011

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Express running on Windows 7 64-bit. I get the same error as detailled in this link [URL] .I need to work with some data to develop the system. I think I can only do this by changing the Copy to Output Directory file property to "Copy if newer" to prevent the debugger from losing it.However this causes TableAdapter.Fill to exit from the sub immediately after executing leaving behind the other code in the form "Add_Load" routine.

Deployment :: Using 32 Bit COM Object On 64bit Machine?

Dec 2, 2009

I wonder if/how to use a 32 bit DLL on a 64 bit machine. The situation is like follows:Autocad Inventor(64 bit program) can launch plugin DLL's. The plugin DLL in this case is programmed with VB.NET 2008 Express edition. As far as I know, I can only choose "Any CPU" when building the DLL with the Express edition. This DLL makes uses of a COM object called Isah IERPlink, a piece of software that is used with a 32 bit package. So in my bin directory this DLL will be added "interop.IERPlink.dll". I guess this DLL is specified for 32 bit CPU's, but I'm not sure.

Developing For 32bit On 64bit Machine?

Aug 8, 2011

I am moving to a Windows 7 64-bit development machine. Talk about causing problems. I've Googled, but can't seem to find much to help my specific needs. I'm hitting maximum errors in my IDE error list, so I won't start listing them. I've tried targetting both x86 and x64, but I still get errors out the wazzu. Is there a good starting point for me to learn how to do this? or should I just start going through the errors and trying to correct them one by one?

Running 32bit Compiled Program/DLL On 64bit Machine?

May 20, 2011

I have some programs written in VB2010 using functions from a DLL. I have compiled and run these programs on a 32bit XP computer and a 32bit Win7 computer and have had no problems accessing the DLL.I have published an installation of these programs and tried running the install on a 64bit Win7 machine and the installation is performed correctly. It installs the programs and copies the required DLL into the same folder. the problem is that whenever I run the software and try to access the DLL I get errors.

The error says something like:

An unhandled exception has occurred in your application. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT:0x8007000B)

If I click past it the software runs and all of the forms are loaded properly, but anytime in the software if I try to access the DLL I get the same error.I am declaring functions in the DLL like this:

Public Declare Function OpenDriver Lib "OP815M.DLL" (ByVal handle_Renamed As Integer) As Integer

I have also tried placing the DLL in the system32 directory and also the sysWOW64 directory and that did not help as well.I do recall that hardware drivers need to be properly signed and pass the Microsoft Logo testing. Must I get the DLLs I am using properly signed?

Edit: Also it might be fair to mention that I have used the DLL with another program written in C, which would run in the DOS command line in Windows and it correctly accesses the DLL on a 64bit machine, but just when run from the DOS command line in windows.

Can't Seem To Copy 3 X CR9 Dll's To VSE Machine To Get Rid Of Errors

Sep 18, 2010

I'm converting an existing VB6 command line app to VB.net as need a bug or 2 fixed. It uses 3 x Crystal Reports 9 libraries. The only errors I have now are related to CR9 (dll) code, but don't have CR9 on the VSE machine, & dont have VSE on the CR9 machine. We also have a CR11 version of this. The fellow who created them has left & we dont have VB6, he used his own.I can't seem to copy the 3 x CR9 dll's to the VSE machine to get rid of the errors, says the dll access is denied, source file may be in use.I can't install VSE on the CR9 machine so have to create/build it on the VSE machine & copy exe to the CR9 machine. Data Not Saving To Database (tableAdapter)?

Jul 31, 2011

I've been struggling the entire day trying to figure this out. Basically the data in my form won't save to the tableAdapter. To update the database I use:

Me.dataSetName.TableName.Rows.Add (DataRowName)

Me.tableAdapterName.Update(Me.dataSetName.TableName)

The database was created using SSMS 2008 R2 and I'm using VS 2010.

I have confirmed that the data is being stored in the data row (because when I removed data from the data row it wouldn't accept because there are NOT NULL columns) and I have followed the instructions of this form as well:[URl]..

How To Get SQL Server CE TableAdapter To Commit To Database

Sep 19, 2010

Created dataset with tableadapter.Dragged dataset and tableadapter to the form so I can reference it in code.New records successfully add to the dataset but will not commit back to the database.Gives no error or clue why it won't work.TableAdapter insert statement was created automatically and is parameterized (@p1, @p2, etc.), but I am trying to avoid those parameter.add statements as I want to be able to use a field-by-field format without having to essentially repeat the schema of my database in code with parameter.add statements.Command object and INSERT statements work fine, but then you always have to construct an INSERT statement -- a pain if they're complicated.I want something as simple as working with a ADO recordset, but in .NET.What can I do to accomplish the following without parameter.add statements? Using TableAdapter To Insert Related Data Into MS Access Database?

Nov 20, 2011

I was working through Beth Massi's article, "Using TableAdapters to Insert Related Data into an MS Access Database" here: http:blogs.msdn.co...s-database.aspx

And I configured the TableAdapter exactly as shown by Beth, yet I am getting an error here:

Me.OrderDetailsTableAdapter.Update(newOrderDetailsRow) The Error says: "You must enter a value in the 'OrderDetails.CustomerID' field."

I am using this code for inserting a related record:

Namespace MyDataSetTableAdapters
Public Class AccessIDHelper
'<summary>

[Code].....

I am not able to insert and move on as I am getting the error marked above.

What could be possibly wrong with the above code and why is this giving an error ?

FormClosing And Application.Exit Is Causing The MessageBox To Ask If Want To Exit Twice

Jun 12, 2007

I'm having a bit of a problem getting my application to close properly. Basically I have one main form from which all other forms open. If a user tries to close that main form, I want to bring up a MessageBox asking if they want to exit the application. However, when I try to do that it asks the question twice. It seems that the Application.Exit() is triggering the FormClosing event again for some reason, but I don't know of another way to exit the application. BTW, the main form isn't the startup form so I can't use the option to close when the startup form closes.

Asp.net - Exit Button Without Saving To Database When Items Have Already Been Added?

Oct 29, 2010

I do not have any code to show, but using asp.net, vb.net, and SQL with stored procedures. If on a page I have an item that is added to the database and therefore that information is "saved", is there a way to have an ("exit without saving") button on the page that does away with those changes?Using infragisitcs ultrawebgrid, you add an item to one table. You can add an item to another table on that page. i assume adding these items to the table automatically saves in the database. There is also a text box but without clicking save I do not believe that those items are actually added to the database. Update panel is used, I don't know if that matters.

If after someone adds to the table but then decides.. oh wait.. I don't want to do this just yet, is there a "one-click" way to act as if I never visited that page to add info? I'm assuming it would be deleting the entries but this would have to be limited to deleting ONLY those items added while making... we don't want people adding info, then going back and deleting once the "save" button has been pushed.

Several IF Statements With Exit Sub Or Nested IF Statement Without Exit Sub?

Dec 9, 2011

Now I have a sub to validate a bunch of textboxes and combo boxes.I previously used many IF statements to validate and pop up different messageboxes and Exit Sub in every IF statement. But I heard that too many Exits will decrease the efficiency and they were not recommended to use. Instead, nested IF is better because it will let the process naturally go to the end. Then I found out that if I use nested IF,it will be hard to read, since messageboxes are all separated from conditions.

Copy File To A File Share On Remote Machine

Aug 14, 2009

I am developing an Application in VB.Net 2.0. I have a module which would copy files from the Local Machine to a shared folder on remote machine. This shared folder on the remote machine is an authenticated folder. So, after searching on the Internet I found the following piece of code.[code]Another point to note is that when I connect to the File Share using Windows Explorer and then try to execute the application, it works properly.I am not sure why I am getting the error when I do not connect to the Shared Folder using Windows Explorer.Do I have to set some property so that the Credentials passed in the authentication are used.I also checked some posts that suggested setting up Mapped Drive to the Shared Folder on the Local machine and then to copy the file using IO.File.Copy function. However, I cannot use this as this Remote Folder should be only accessed through the application and not in any other case by the User. The users will not even have the credentials to this remote Server as it will be configured by the admin. So, Is there any way in which I can set this up and transfer the files from local machine to a remote shared folder?

VS 2010 Database Binding Methods

Apr 13, 2011

I've read jmcilhinney's code bank submission on retrieving and saving database data and have been using this a lot.

What i would like to know now is how/if i should be using the built in VS method of databinding with bindingsource, bindingnavigator and dataset controls etc for anything?

What can i do better with this method and what are the limitations?

Also, i'm using a function that reads an ini file to set the path in the connection string, can i still do this using the data binding method?

I've read a fair bit on using databases with VB but the above is still a bit confusing to me.
