Three Location Binary Data - Implement Bit Wise Operation?
Jul 31, 2008
Suppose there is a three location binary data: xxx, I want to create a NOT operation on the second number and keep other 2 numbers or vs.
For example, 010 --> 000, 110-->100, 111-->101, 000--> 010
In decimal , it means 2-->0, 6-->4, 7-->5, 0-->2
How to do it with VB?

I have been googling this and have not come along a working solution for an entire day. I don't know anything about binary data types (as I've never knowingly used them) and I'm trying to write a binary value that I see in the registry, to the registry. Now, all I see is the following [shown below]... and if I try to pass that as a string to the RegSetValueEx in the WinAPI and of course it errors out...
I do not know what 'numbers' I need to pass into the lpData As Any, argument of RegSetValueEx (i tried a bit array) in order for it to come out as the following [shown below] in the regedit. I really have no idea, and my tests to place random numbers in the bit array just produce corresponding random "figures" as visible in regedit that I do not understand how to 'tie' them together logically. here is the culprit!

I have a windows form which to summarize lets the user open a file containing 32 bit hashes, then search for one of them. The hash is then converted to its string representation. The application is giving the results I would expect but I'd like to make it execute faster than it does now; some files can be pretty big > 100 MB.
I'm doing the file read using a BackgroundWorker object to display progress updates and ensure that the UI is available during the process. But for that i need to add a System.Threading.Sleep(1) instruction in the loop; otherwise the application freezes with big files. And System.Threading.Sleep(1) creates a noticeable lag. Any suggestions on how to make searches fast without freezing the UI? Getting speeds comparable to hex editor programs for example.

I am developing a small application with VB 2008 and MS SQL 2005. For reporting using RDLC reports. Everything is going well except page wise total.I need page wise total on each page and each(all) page wise total should be displayed on last page. I need the report output like this.
SrNo. Amount
1. 200
2. 200
3. 200
[code]....
Note : No. of rows/page are not fixed.For group Total I have used Sum function of rdlc table with scope table_Group2 & for Grand total I have used Sum function of rdlc in table footer with dataset scope.For page wise total I have used textbox in Report footer (=Sum(ReportItems!amt.Value). How to get page wise totals on last page again.

eg: Dim A As New Test.A - It was possible
but iam using with one namespace like

I use the streamreader to fill a datagridview. I need to sort the datagridview integer-wise and have tried to use the SortCompare event. To compare the row values i use the function
Public Function CompareIntegers(ByVal value1 As String, ByVal value2 As String) As Integer
Dim int1 As Integer = Integer.Parse(value1)
Dim int2 As Integer = Integer.Parse(value2)
[code]....
Which i call from the SortCompare event with
Private Sub DGV_SortCompare(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewSortCompareEventArgs)
e.SortResult = CompareIntegers(e.CellValue1, e.CellValue2)
End Sub
The event is fired but the datagridview is still sorted as strings.

Are there any examples on how to implement a datareader? I have try copying the code from MSDN but;--"Dim reader as SQLDataReader = command. ExecuteReader()"Where it is placed? As a declariton at the beggining of a form? or as as VB resource?and then how those it bind a to a dataGridView? How can I loop through each rows once is bind to use the contents of the column/row?I can perform the above function easly inside of MS Access using VBA. I have gone through various books from WROX but none of them show a clear example or the code is obsolete.

Iam having major difficulties handling a binary stream which I am trying to read and process in vb.net. The stream is coming in from an FTDI chip and should contain 64 8-bit values.An example of the stream is here
 ٶ
I need to get this into something that I can read (decimal or hex or 1s and 0s) in vb and I just don't know what to do - I tried using Asc() but it wasn't working and I know now that it can't work with characters higher than 127.

I'm trying to convert code from Delphi to .Net. I'm stuck on one line:
//Delphi code ss := Copy(ss, Length(ss), 1) + Copy(ss, 1,Length(ss) - 1); 'vb.net code ss = ss.Substring(0, ss.Length - 1) + ss.Substring(1, ss.Length - 1)
Delphi combines the two substrings, while .Net just concatenate them like a copy.

I have a need to construct a command Byte to send to another device using bit wise operations.There seem to be plenty of article on how to do this for indiviual bits using an OR'd constant but how do I do this for values that span multiple bits? eg "Bits 4-1" set the repeat count".so how to I inject a repeat count value of say 7 into my command byte?

I want to build a form with fields bound to a datasoruce that the user can scroll through (using the up and down arrows).This would be a detail screen, but I don't really want a visible data gird or list on the screen with it, but as I'm still designing this may be something I would want to try also. The screen would be read-only data with a search textbox that would be used to query the list of data. The user will enter a search term and then browse through the detail screen to locate the exact record they want. I'm somewhat restricted on design because I'm trying to replicate a legacy program and don't want to deviate too far from the original design.For my datasource I've got a List (of MyClass), I just need to figure out the binding and navigation.

In my app I have a main form listing basic customer info in a datagridview. When the user single-clicks a customer, I want all the customers info to appear on the right side of the main form for viewing/editing/deleting, etc. Also, if the user double-clicks a customer I want a new form to appear (not an MDI child, but an external form) to appear with the same info for viewing/editing/deleting, etc. (Kind of like MS Outlook where you can open an item in the main Outlook window or externally).Since the external form and the right side of the main form need to show the same info and have the same functionality, I created a User Control to house all the customers detail controls and the ability to edit or delete.
Questions: Is using a User Control the best way to go?
The customer data on the main form is brought in via dataset, tableadapter and bindingsource. When a user single or double clicks a customer, that customers ID needs to get to the details User Control, regardless of whether it's in the main form or external form. What's the best way to get that customer ID to the User Control? Or should the main form "pass" the data binding source to the User Control?Once the customer ID has been received in the User Control, what's the best way to show that customer's details and prepare it for editing?

I am currently using a binary formatter to serialize/deserialize some data objects. Some of the properties in the classes are Strings. When the data is written you can open the file with a text editor and can see the raw String data. Is there any way to encrypt the Strings or the entire object before it is serialized? I have looked at this thread here [URL] but the code is in C# and the free converters I tried for some reason did not like the code. This is the code I am using currently.

I have a VB.NET dll which pulls out binary data from and opens it as a pdf. It works fine if I create a file on the user's machine and then open that. What I want to do, however, is just open it in Adobe without creating the file on their machine first (there's customer data in the file and we don't want copies of it sitting around unecessarily).
It's possible in ASP.NET to just stream the data to a browser and open it in that without creating the file, but I can't find a similar methodology for doing that straight to Adobe. Does anyone know if this is even possible or do I have to create the file in order to have it open?
