How To Implement Linear Regression On Data
Apr 15, 2011I'm looking for a reference showing how to implement linear regression on data in VB2005

View 1 RepliesI have data that are numbers both on x and y and have charted them using mschart 4.0
I need to add a trend line/linear regression to a bunch of points I have. The data on x and y are both numbers (no dates anywhere), for instance (33.4,45.1) would be a point.
In the samples I downloaded from the first link I found a linear regression sample in the code files forecasting.aspx(.cs), and I found this ms documentation
I have added a linear regression line to the chart with the following line (once all other data it setup etc)
Chart1.DataManipulator.FinancialFormula(FinancialFormula.Forecasting, parameters, "Input:Y", "Forecasting:Y,Range:Y,Range:Y2");
The problem with both of these is that they assume dates are used. I went ahead and implemented it anyway, but my regression line starts at around the x value of 20, and will go to an x value of the max x value of one of the points (almost 70) if I give the parameter Period a value of 700. But since it doesn't start at x value 0 I don't trust it is correct.
I have a set of x, eg 288, data values. The user wants to fit a regression to a subset of this data, eg (2 - 200), then she wants to analyse within a subset of this fitted range, eg at 20 and 100. So, on my form are four Hor. Slider Bars, to set the lower and upper bounds to the fitting and the analysis. The two that set the lower bounds work fine. The two that set the upper bounds are getting corrupted somehow outside of my code and I do not know how to solve this problem. What happens is that when I click on the right hand arrow on the slider bar, the program runs through my function with the correct values whilst the arrow is down, goes out of my code and then immediately comes back into my code, but with the wrong value set into the Hor. Slider Bar fields that I am working with, eg the .Value field. The new value is always 9 below the maximum that it can be, but I can see no connection to this number.
View 1 RepliesA long time ago. before .Net net existed, I used an automated and a graphical tool. It seens to me that it was made by Microsoft. Is there a graphic regression testing tool that anyone knows of?
View 1 RepliesI am doing regression testing using NUnit, WatiN and VB.net. What I am doing is opening an IE page, selecting some data, making a registration and then on view registration page testing the registration by assertion. Any good way to use try and catch on every assert. i am using it because if some assert fails it will stop executing the rest of the statement and quits without running rest of the tests. Now I have put try and catch on every assert and writing the fail message in log file.
For instance If I am checking for some airline reservation booking. After creating a booking, On view Booking Summary Page I am testing weather it is displaying cancel booking button or not. For this I am using the following code:
Try Assert.IsTrue(_internetExplorer.Button(Find.ById(New Regex("CBooking"))).Exists)
Catch ex As Exception d_logger.LogResultTextFile("Cancel Button does not Exist", True, False) End Try
I am checking this by running this in a loop for no of bookings created. I want to keep running the test even if in one booking it wont finds the button but keep checking for other bookings.
This problem has been doing my head in all day and wouldn't mind a bit of advice. Basically I have a table in my db called tblTree which looks a bit like this :
TreeId, ParentId
1 0
2 0
3 2
Each row represent a folder.The TreeId is a unique Primary Key.The ParentId refers to the folder this belongs in so in the above example TreeId 3 is a folder created in the the folder represented by TreeId 2.The 0 in ParentId represents the root.How in Gods name am i supposed to create a folder structure using this table?
I want to use VB for linear programming. Can any one tell me the best approach or give sample codes.
View 2 RepliesBasically a vertical progress bar with a user settable scale configurable either vertically or horizontally. Fancier looking the better.There's a lot of nice ones in commercial packages, but they come bundled with 80 other controls and generally have a price tag of several hundreds to thousands of dollars - which is a hard sell to a manager when you only need one control from the bundle.My other option is to embark on writing my own; something I don't look forward to and don't expect to look nearly as slick or "3d" as some of the things out there.
View 22 RepliesI have a form that scales a background image. The form is painted 30 times a second (using Invalidate so it redraws the whole background image). When the window size is less than half my screen (1366x768), Task Manager reports that the program's CPU usage is 00. If I increase this a few pixels in width, all of a sudden the CPU usage jumps up to 50+. I can get up to about 606000 pixels in the client rectangle before it starts exhibiting this behavior

View 13 RepliesOverviewThe fastest way to read or write Xml documents in a linear fashion is to use the XmlTextReader and XmlTextWriter classes in the System.Xml namespace. If read- or write-only forward-only access is too limiting, however, the System.Xml.XmlDocument class provides the ability to easily modify existing documents (adding, removing, or modifying elements and / or attributes) and leverages the powerful search capabilities of XPath.
Getting StartedThe XmlDocument can load Xml from a string in memory, from a URL, or from a file path. There are two methods that enable this functionality: Load and LoadXml. To load a document from either a URL or file path, use the Load method. Following is an example of using the LoadXml method to load an Xml document from memory. (NOTE: we will be working with this particular document throughout this article)

I need a VB.NET program to solve linear system with any number of equations

View 2 RepliesAre there any examples on how to implement a datareader? I have try copying the code from MSDN but;--"Dim reader as SQLDataReader = command. ExecuteReader()"Where it is placed? As a declariton at the beggining of a form? or as as VB resource?and then how those it bind a to a dataGridView? How can I loop through each rows once is bind to use the contents of the column/row?I can perform the above function easly inside of MS Access using VBA. I have gone through various books from WROX but none of them show a clear example or the code is obsolete.
View 5 RepliesI've built a UserRepository interface to communicate with my LINQ to SQL Data layer, but I'm trying to figure out how to implement validation.
Here is what my AddUser subroutine looks like
Public Sub AddUser(ByVal about As String, ByVal birthdate As DateTime, ByVal openid As String, ByVal regionid As Integer, ByVal website As String) Implements IUserRepository.AddUser
[Code].....
I want to build a form with fields bound to a datasoruce that the user can scroll through (using the up and down arrows).This would be a detail screen, but I don't really want a visible data gird or list on the screen with it, but as I'm still designing this may be something I would want to try also. The screen would be read-only data with a search textbox that would be used to query the list of data. The user will enter a search term and then browse through the detail screen to locate the exact record they want. I'm somewhat restricted on design because I'm trying to replicate a legacy program and don't want to deviate too far from the original design.For my datasource I've got a List (of MyClass), I just need to figure out the binding and navigation.
View 1 RepliesIn my app I have a main form listing basic customer info in a datagridview. When the user single-clicks a customer, I want all the customers info to appear on the right side of the main form for viewing/editing/deleting, etc. Also, if the user double-clicks a customer I want a new form to appear (not an MDI child, but an external form) to appear with the same info for viewing/editing/deleting, etc. (Kind of like MS Outlook where you can open an item in the main Outlook window or externally).Since the external form and the right side of the main form need to show the same info and have the same functionality, I created a User Control to house all the customers detail controls and the ability to edit or delete.
Questions: Is using a User Control the best way to go?
The customer data on the main form is brought in via dataset, tableadapter and bindingsource. When a user single or double clicks a customer, that customers ID needs to get to the details User Control, regardless of whether it's in the main form or external form. What's the best way to get that customer ID to the User Control? Or should the main form "pass" the data binding source to the User Control?Once the customer ID has been received in the User Control, what's the best way to show that customer's details and prepare it for editing?
All my data objects implement an interface IFillable
Public Interface IFillable
Sub Fill(ByVal Datareader As Data.IDataReader)
End Interface
In the objects themselves you will typically see something like
Public Class Supplier
Implements IFillable
[Code]...
Now here is the tricky bit. Given that all my property names WILL ALWAYS match my database column names what I want to do is using reflection generate the fill method at compile time and infer the types and column names for the datareader.I am assuming I will need to structure this functionality as some sort of a tool/vs plugin? What I am looking for is guidance on the best way to go about this.
PS: BTW: Obviously I could easily do this using reflection at runtime but I dont want to take the performance hit for it (Although theoretically if I could cache the values somehow (static class?) it might not be too bad).
Possible Duplicate:How can I handle a Validation.Error in my ViewModel instead of my View's code behind?The usual examples of how to use Data-Validation in WPF usually only involves defining an error template for the control and displaying the error message in the control tooltip. What I want to do is to create a collection of all ValidationErrors, display it in an ItemsControl to the user and focus the invalid control when the user clicks on the associated (error) item in the ItemsControl.
View 2 RepliesI typically dont create interfaces unless i have to, however in my current application i have to create interfaces in the Data access layer. I'm a in a minor confusion that hwo do i create those interfaces more how to implement them: the following code might make things clear:I have the following class and interface in the data access namespace
[code="vb"]Imports ConsoleApplication8.BusinessLayerImports ConsoleApplication8.DataAccessLayerImports System.DataImports System
Namespace DataAccessLayer
Public Class CountryGateway Implements ICountryGateway
[code]....
1. Is this way implement the interface in the data access layer? (in this case the class CountryGateway access the database.)
2. I have been told that we should create interfaces than abstract classes espcially in the data access layer, is there a particular reason for this?
Suppose there is a three location binary data: xxx, I want to create a NOT operation on the second number and keep other 2 numbers or vs.
For example, 010 --> 000, 110-->100, 111-->101, 000--> 010
In decimal , it means 2-->0, 6-->4, 7-->5, 0-->2
How to do it with VB?
I am upgrading from Visual Studio 2003 to Visual Studio 2008. ow I should upgrade my project.My project is in Visual Basic.Net, and using an Access 2003 Database. I have four datasets, MainDataSet (for the main data tables) LookupDataSet (for lookup tables States, Countries, Colors, etc) OneFormDataSet (data used on only one form) and ReportsDataSet (data used for reports).I have one form "OleDbAdpatForm.vb", that has all the OleDbDataAdpaters for my project. It also has the DataSets and the OleDbConnection.I have public functions that enable me to load the data tables.
I have a LoadTable function when I can pass a column and a value, and the SQL select command is updated with a WHERE or HAVING, so only the requested data is selected. I also can pass the whole "WHERE ..." part of the SQL select command, so I can have multiple parameters in the SELECT command.On my other forms, I have copies of the DataSets, so I can design grids/controls. In the form_Load events, I manually bind the controls to DataSets and tables in located "OleDbAdpatForm.vb", so all forms are using the same data tables, and changes made to data in one form are reflected in data in other forms.The VS 2008's DataSources, BindingSources and TableAdapters seem much easier to use. how I should implement the new data features in my application?
I wanted to implement the use of Enter key when entering data and moving from cell to cell. How am i going to implement that?
For example:
Text Box 1: Date: 02/02/2009
Text Box 2: Name:
then after entering the date on the text box i wanted to move to Text Box 2using only the Enter key.
How to implement such a feature in vb.net??
View 3 RepliesWe have a vb.net application where we have implemented multithreading. We determined that we need to either implement .net remoting or WCF. After researching remoting in .NET on MSDN, Microsoft considers remoting legacy for .NET framework 4.0 and recommends using WCF instead. My question is: can we implement WCF functionality into our VB.NET application or do we need to rewrite the app from the ground up in WCF?

This is just a Translation question. But how do you write a the following C# code in vb.net My problem is that i don't know how to rewrite the this part of the generic T. C# code i want to translate
public static void ShouldEqual<T>(this T actualValue, T expectedValue) {Assert.AreEqual(expectedValue, actualValue); }

I am implementing a tracing mechanism myself. Now what I'd like to know is what is the best way to implement this mechanism(I mean, the architecture).[code]But then I saw there is an TraceListener class that let's me implement Write and WriteLine methods. The big drawback is that both those methods allow only strings as arguments, and I'd want to be able to send a lot more info than strings. What should I do? Maybe my first ideia is the best?I do know there are a lot of tracing mechanisms like PostSharp and so, I'm just doing this for learning purposes!
View 1 RepliesMy Questions are: Is is possible to implement a bitboard in vb.net? Tutorial/Reference to do bitboard in VB?
C# answers are acceptable because it's not that hard to translate.
