I am trying to update a datagrid joining two tables with a bindingsource. I keep getting the following error: "dynamic sql generation is not supported against multiple base tables." Any ideas on how to fix the problem? Also, I realize that commandbuilder does not work for more than one table.
View 4 RepliesWhen I update a record at table [Product] with the integer that stands for [Supplier Name] from joined table [Suppliers], this does not appear in my datagridview. Instead, I have to reload the table to dataset to make it visible. What about datarelation? Is it better that loading a joined table over the dataset? Note that I have never dealed with datarelations before.. How can I make a datagrid column to show "Supplier Name" instead of recordID that represents this supplier?
View 2 RepliesI am not sure if the above title is suitable for what I mean, but basically my application has a login table with entry U_ID and I have also created another field in my other table which will store this ID from the login table.
What I want to do is, if a user with say U_ID = 1 downloads data and stores it in the
second table I would also for trackable reasons be able to store the U_ID of that user
in the second table so that I would know who downloaded the information.
How can I acheive this and if there are any example then point to them.
Can you perform a join on two tables, one is an Access database and the other is a SQL Server database.I understand that I could perform a SELECT on each database, and then manually join the results. Is this how I'm going to have to do it?

View 2 RepliesBasically what I'm having to do is create a program that takes a list of CaseIDs and compares them to a table on a remote SQL server. However, the table holding the CaseIDs on the remote server has nearly 120,000 records.
Currently my plan is to query all records on the remote server, save the query and the current list to tables in an Access DB file and then run an outer join to see which CaseIDs have no matching records on the remote server.
I believe this will be a much slower process than I would like. If I could load both queries into arrays or lists in VB and then compare them (therefore, not having to write 120,000 records to a DB file), it would be much faster.
I'm working on becoming familiar with LINQ, and getting my head around the syntax and usage.

I have a strongly-typed datasets created using VS data designers. In this dataset I have 3 main tables:
Patients
Users (Relationship: Users.ClinicianId > Patients.ClinicianId)
SchedAppointments
Issue is I would like to filter the datasets based the user type and a few other ways. How can I filter each table(sql query) using the BindingSource that was automatically added. I thought I read that some of the functions work against the current datamember, so I tried the following code.

a enum list of address type: 0 = "Mailing", 1 = "Physical", 2 = "Shipping" etc...
I would like to bind the datasource of the combobox to the enum so it displays "Mailing", "Physical" etc. Then I would like to change the bindingsource position of the address table based on the user selection of the combobox.

I've tried a lot, but I think it has a hard time serializing because the Account object has the CharacterList object or something. [code]

Why is it when I update the tableadapter, some of the fields update and some of them don't?

View 2 RepliesI've taken over a winforms project (attached to a SQL Server database) that needs to completed quickly so am trying to work with what the other developer has rather than rewriting it all. He has an admin form with a listview and a datagridview. The idea is to allow a user to edit the lookup tables for the database (customer type, product list, etc). When the form is loaded, the listview is populated (hard-coded) with a list of available tables. Clicking on a table name fills the datagridview with the contents of the table. What he left incomplete was the updating of the database if the user makes updates/inserts to a table.Now, I know that normally you would just call the Update method of the dataadapter, but he passes all his database calls for the entire project through a helper class that will execute parameterized sql queries (for updates/inserts), or return a bindingsource object for displaying data. But this helper class does not expose the underlaying dataadapter.
To populate the datagridview, he uses the following code in the ListBox1_SelectedIndexChanged event:

The rest of the app deals with only one record at a time, so when an update is needed, he scrapes the data from the form, builds a parameter array and passes the array and the name of the stored proceedure that handles the update to a method of his helper class called .InsUpDel - which is simply another wrapper that builds a parameterized query, executes the passed stored proceedure and returns the success/fail state of update.But, since this part of the app deals with an entire table rather than just one record, that method doesn't work. So, back to my question: How can I update the database when a change is made to datagridview when all I have is the bindingsource?
I'm having problems with bindingsource. I have a proc used to update a datagridview from a bindingsource. When I run the debugger, the datatable appears to be populated rowcount is 2206 and 7 columns. When the bindingsource.datasource is set, everything looks good. The filter appears to be ok, however, when the datagridview is set to the bindingsource, it's not working. I have it in a try/catch block and an error isn't being raised. I have a datagrid who's ItemsSource is a strongly typed IEnumerable object In this datagrid, I have a checkbox column, a price column, a part name column, and a 'total selling for' column. On checking the checkbox I need to update the total selling for column with the value in the price column. This part I have working, however, how can I get the checkbox to remain checked when this happens?

What i need to do now is to enable the user to click on a table name thats listed in the listbox (which were put there using the
GetOleDbSchemaTable method)
and when they do, i need to populate the Datagridview with the relevant data thats sitting in the table that is listed in the listbox.
I've tried a couple things to get the tables themselves to populate the DGV(which kind of works now), but not the Data thats sitting in the individual table.
How will I combine 2 tables from my database? And show its data in my datagridview.

I can eleect all indavidually, but when I try to select more than one, I only get the last "table" in the list. If I could establish a ODBC connection that would be better, but this will have to work for now with some canned queries I have.
